Here's proof you don't need to be a rich and famous celebrity to be happy in life. John has married up his passion of theater, design, and horror to bring people this amazing haunted house. Also, you can tell it's a labor of love and he is living his best life. Big shout out to all the scare actors that bring the Halloween season to the next level. They all do a funtastic job, no matter if it's HHN or a small backyard haunt. Well done! Thanks Tampa Jay!! Outstanding video once again!!
This was so cool to watch. I love how orginized and well managed they are. You could tell how much this guy truely cared about his actors and their safety.
Having worked for John for 15 years, 2 of which were at HellsGate, I can tell you, to say that he cares about his people is an understatement. I've seen this company and the cast help save cast members houses from foreclosure. I've seen him pay for people to attend trade show conventions where they can attend seminars and learn new skills that they can then bring back to our show to not only make the show better, but to make more money for the individual. Two years after I last worked for them, I was given a grant to get driving lessons so I could get my license, and a scholarship to start professional acting classes. I've never been one to buy into the "we're a family" stuff at any job, but here, it's a very real thing.
@TravelZombie John really seems like an amazing and passionate person. Your awesome words about him solidified my thoughts about him as I watching this. It truly seems like he would be a great person to work. When someone loves what they do as much as he does, it becomes a lot easier to want to work for them. Thanks for sharing the stories about him and your experience working for him. I wish you the best of luck with your acting classes! You have a great attitude and definitely deserve everything you've worked for and more. Such awesome positivity!
@TravelZombie absolutely! I appreciate the heck out of seeing positivity! That's so cool that it's their opening night! I'm hoping they have a successful season! I can't imagine a haunted attraction with well over 300 actors! That has to be so much fun!!
This is my favorite haunted house in Chicago! Ive been following John LaFlamboy my whole life growing up in Chicago and going to Statesville. If your really a haunt enthusiast you will love Illinois haunted houses. They are some of the best in the nation. I would visit 30+ every haunt season no lie. I have now moved to Indianapolis and now venture out more to some of Americas best! Hellsgate, Evil Intentions are the best in Illinois though!
For some reason the midwest just goes absolutely beast mode with haunts. Like you look up a list of the best haunts in the entire country and a solid half of them are all in the midwest.
I grew up in the 50's watching horror films from the 30's up. Addicted to creature features! This is the MOST INTENSE horror scenes EVER !!! Your BEST vlog EVER !!! Unbelievable!!! I MUST go & experience this at all costs !! I've heard of folks talk about it, but words could never describe this place. WOW 😲!
the only haunted house where i’ve jumped atleast 15 times so many distractions that make you look away from where an actor could be most of the rooms i couldn’t tell if something was an animatronic or a real person. this haunt is done perfectly
Best thing about haunted houses is finding creepy secret passageways, and looking at the amazing attention to detail, and boy - this did not disappoint! This was a grand tour. Thank you, Jay, for the full tour with the creator. Awesome job! 😎👍
Ok I've been watching alot of these tours and I have to say this is the best I've ever seen!!!! I love this owners attitude and creativity... wishing y'all much deserved success. This place is a work of art.
Im only halfway through the video but this is the coolest haunt I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m practically clapping watching it, it just keeps getting better. I definitely need to come here someday.
OMG- what an amazing place you had the opportunity to tour. I’m not into Haunted Houses at all but this video was totally exciting to watch. It went on room for room, FOREVER!! The story line, the imagination, the craftsmanship that went into that attraction is beyond words. I can’t even imagine what it’s going to like when it is locked and loaded ready to go for the haunt season. Brilliant job!! Very enjoyable. Note: I could never venture into this in the dark 😬
Jay- I would love to see you, Cris and 4 very special appreciative friends(Adam the Woo for one) to go back together and then do a vlog about your experience together
I spent 15 years working with John, two of which were at HellsGate. I've been away living in Arizona the last few years, but I'm still very much involved with them and a part of the community. I've seen a lot of these walkthroughs in my time, and I don't know that I've seen one that is more comprehensive than this one. The relatively few cuts gave a lot of room for the viewer to get a good understanding of the story, and as John says, we're theater people, so we love telling stories. I truly hope that you'll go back for the full experience in October. If you haven't asked about bringing the camera through for the full show, don't be afraid to ask. Yes, there is the no cameras rule, so if you're reading this, keep that camera phone in your pocket, but they'll make exceptions for certain people. Grimm Life Collective did a couple of great videos there where they waived the camera rule. Same with Jacob The Catpetbagger. If it's something you're interested in doing, no harm in asking. Anyway, thank you so much for showcasing the place, it means so much to the cast and crew when people enjoy their art.
I don’t think Jess or I have ever been as blown away by a haunted attraction as we were throughout this whole video. So many OMG type moments….the details of what had to go into planning it (especially the backstage portions). If only we lived closer!
This was such a fun walk through and John seems like such a great dude who is very passionate about what he does. Hellsgate looks like an amazing attraction!! Ill have to take a road trip to check it out! Thanks for sharing your walk through and giving us all a GREAT behind the scenes look at such a cool attraction with such a great dude in John! Keep up the great work!
Hi Mr TJ, sorry I am 2 days late watching this, . Now I have watched this and O M G what a journey thro this film, your chat and commentary is top notch, loved all of this, thank you so much. What an amazing Haunt, so Haunts on, you and Chris the Girl must go back and visit this as guests. Flamingooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooos
I can't express enough how absolutely amazing John is! Hells Gate is more then a Haunt... it is beautiful art in its purest form! I idolize this man...and the passion the pours out of him. Makes me cry sometimes..
I'm kinda well known for my Halloween set up in my local area. This guy's mind is amazing. It's all the tactics I try to use in my small work area. For some reason, by instinct, I've always tried to incorporate fright and humor. So when he said that thing about the part of the brain that creates the same reaction between fright and humor I was like wtf, I was right. I wish I would have seen him before as my set ups could have been a lot better. In his words..."The science of scare". Love it!
All the good ones is far from where I live lol. Looks like this owner is doing things right at his place. Absolutely love that he is part of the crew and dresses up!!
Two orbs flew by when he was telling about the twins appearing from the sliding painting. And one when was talking about no lights or cameras and the rules.
Paused at the swamp part. The science of scaring. I must defy it, bc I'm always expecting something to come at me from the left. Its the right side of me that gets me. And I'm a tough one to crack in haunted houses! Yall *almost* got me last night. Very close
@tampa Jay. I watched your video couple weeks ago and seeing it made me go . Today is my birthday and my wife got me tickets. Thanks for posting this or I probly never would have went. It was Fantastic.
I have been to this haunt and it is really one of the best a lot of scary things for us adults to be kids for a while, I am going this year again, it is really worth the trip🎉😅

Epic, John is a legend. Thanks for the tour 👍
Best behind the scenes so far you seem actually interested in what John is saying rather than ignoring him and asking random questions

I love this house you need to go inside it when it's active with scare actors!
