    Raines was one of my good friends growing up. He passed away in 2020, so coming across this video and seeing him in it and hearing his voice again gave me chills.

    I made it through phase 1(Am currently a holdover waiting for phase 2). I will tell you this MOS is no joke. The PT is grueling, the standards are high, and there’s little to no chance you’ll make it and could be reclassed. But its worth giving it your all.

    Signed up to be an Army DIver back in 2002, but the wait time to go to Basic was about 8 months. After 2 I was ready to go! Called my recruiter, renegotiated my contract, and went Airborne (92R) instead. I was out 2 weeks later 🙌

    I went through diver phase 1, and was injured on the LAST FUCKING DAY. Literally, the last hour. 3 months on crutches. Then 6 months physical therapy in the fucking COMMUNICATIONS JOB they forced me to switch to. I will never, ever, in my entire life lose my resentment for the diver cadre who made us do double, or triple the required daily training. They GOT OFF on hurting soldiers. So many broken fucking friends from that. I trained for months before I went to basic. I could hold my breath for 4 minutes. I crushed every in water evolution. Those injuries have never healed.

    • @CivilianPr0ject
      @CivilianPr0ject 3 роки тому +15

      @@TheFoxyPlayer I was medically discharged after refusing the med board 2 times. On the third time (they did it every 3 months when my injuries got too bad for me to go to the range anymore) the brigade surgeon told me he has never had a soldier refuse a med board (first step to medical discharge) and told me to sit on a mountain (we had one right next to the hospital) and ask myself why I’m still doing this, come back to him with an answer. I accepted the med board and was promptly discharged, about 2 years after diver selection. I did my best. I bought in way too hard to the whole “it isn’t training until it hurts” type of mindset. Stupid. It really messed me up for a couple years, baker acted and all that. Luckily for me, my local VA saved my life. I have now a wonderful wife and kid, and a new purpose. But every time I see anything that reminds me of diver my soul is crushed. I can’t even surf anymore. I was a hurricane surf chaser for 10 years before i went to selection. So much lost. But of course I know, many people lost much more.

      You have have be an engineer 2LT at EBOLC during the August/September to try out. The selection process is rigorous. By the end of the pool day, less than 10 will remain out of 30+. Those 10 will be interviewed to select the most qualified candidates for phase 1 and 2.

      US army divers are trained to fight enemy divers, it isn't shown here but they do a lot of underwater reconnaissance in places where the army is operating (rivers, lakes, and sometimes oceans) and sometimes work with SF Combat divers. No, they do not just use a knives. When doing beach and river recon (Pretty much SEAL and SF Combat diver territory) they'll be equipped with what an infantryman uses plus a swim suit.
