Thank you for your kind comments. The only thing I outsourced was the homing of the cylinders to the new pistons and some parts to be chromed. I am not a professional. I retired as a VP of IT. I enjoy building things and do it for relaxation/ fun. I have been building Harleys, cars, etc. since I was 16 years old (I am now 67). The great thing about an old Harley is that they are simple design and really do not take a lot of special tools. If I can do it, anyone can. It always actually exciting when you run into something and figure out a way to overcome it. Do not worry about making mistakes, everyone does (they are great learning aids). Correct it and move to next task. Just be patient and do not rush. Definition of “failure“… is not attempting something for fear of failing. In the end to accomplishment is well worth the journey. Wish you all the best. God Bless.
Thank you !! I have just sold my 2006 street glide I am 68 yrs old had a few operations on my legs from a accident in 1984 , the bike is getting to heavy , so now I have boughten 2 shovel heads “78” flh “73”flh what a blast ! Sure miss that potato sound
Great Video of your journey with the Bike through the years . And unbelievable how thorough you went through every single component and rebuilding it . Great work on the Restoration of your excellent example . I hope you enjoy many more years and miles in the future, you deserve it . Well done Sir !
Love this,an actual proper biker, not restoration to ' add your flavour to it' but restoration because you've ridden the wheels off it,an you wanna see it right, hats off to you.
Like your bike, i was born in 1977 too. I have owned a '73 Shovelhead over 20 yrs now, but i like to get a '77 too at some day. Just because its an excellent year!
Nice to see the life of your Harley and great what you did with the complete restoration. Did you do it according to the manual or are you a professional? (of course you take something to a workshop, for example grinding the cylinders, because you don`t have the machines) So i ask if i could do that too. I m a mechanic engineer, not a Harley (Shovelhead) prof... Wish you all days a good and safe drive... Greetings from Hamburg, Germany
Bike looks great! Question- what did you do about the "Delta" medallions on the bubble bags? They are the red arrow-like emblems on the sides. I've not found a source for them yet. Did you restore yours or?
I had one original medallion when I got the bags. It was in bad shape. I took it to a machine shop. They used it as a pattern and laser cut several copies out of stainless steel. I then drilled the mounting holes to match the original and taped off the red pattern and painted it. I have an extra stainless-steel copy. If you wish to have it, I will be happy to send it to you (no charge). I will never use it. But unsure on UA-cam how you can send me your address to mail to you if you wish to have it.
