So happy to hear this and that is so exciting! What will your first marathon be and when is it?? Hoping to get a lot more "beginner marathon" content out in the coming weeks/months!
@@runningwithjane Those are still two unknowns at this point! But I’m using my new Garmin 45 with the Jeff Galloway program. I used to run but just getting back into it. Your channel is very helpful and motivating tho! Thanks for the content!
Another great video Jane!🤓 Sounds like a very solid nutrition and hydration plan. I really like your idea to use different formulations of gels at different stages of the race to ensure your energy/electrolytes are kept replenished. I have been using Tailwind for a year now and love it! Cheers from Canada, Scott
"I ate cookies and it was fine." LOL This is one of my favorite comments ever. Cookies are delicious and they are carbs, so if they work for you, why spend extra money for gels?!
@@runningwithjane They said to eat something my stomach was used to!😄 It was a casual race with a small field and a friend supported me at a few points along the course. So I didn't have to carry the cookies myself which helped. Thanks for the great reply and looking forward to more race wisdom!
Thank you for all the great content! Your videos have helped me on my first marathon journey! Do you recommend taking Nuun or any other electrolyte supplement before the long run?
Thanks so much, Antoinette! Yes, I think Nuun is great before a long run...something like LMNT can be great in the warmer months to ensure you're getting plenty of electrolytes. If it's tough for you to eat your calories pre-run, something like Tailwind could be good for that...or even OJ quite honestly!
Hey Richard - I'm so sorry to hear that. Curious if you practiced the fueling you did on race day? The more closely you align it during training runs, the more acclimated you are on race day. Doesn't mean there are never issues, but that's your best bet. May also be that you need to try a different type of fuel.
@@runningwithjane yes i practiced during all of the LR's but i never did have any success. tried Maurten and precision fuel this training block. im coming back from 3 years off but even back then i had problems. i tried Untapped syrup in the past. i think im going to try that this next training block and try to force in the 60g an hour during training. i was thinking about trying that Huma but i hate to keep buying different brands
@@runningwithjane yes practiced through the block and had the same issues about 4 gels in. but it got to close to the race to change. tried two brands during training and had the same issue
Have you found the Huma Gels to make you more gassy? I kind of did but just sort of blew it off but then read somewhere that one of Chia's natural side effects is gas. Just curious if you have found that? Thanks:)
I would like to have some advice. When doing my long run yesterday, I found that my blood sugar just dropped out of nowhere. It is not happening on all my runs, but once a while. What will you recommend I should do to prevent it and what should I do if it happens?
Hi Francisca! You want to keep a steady stream of calories/carbs to avoid this from happening. In a long run that typically means taking a gel or equivalent at least every 30 minutes. You can download a fueling guide here readysetmarathon.com/free-running-training-plans/ that will help you understand how to fuel before and during depending on each type of run. Hope that helps!

Hi Regina! On warmer days, definitely. And I do think the additional sodium can help with energy levels in general and falls in the "can't hurt" category! I typically end up drinking Nuun or LMNT the night before and water in the morning, but the opposite works, too!
Hey guys - here's the link if you want to track my race this Sunday! Start time is 7:05 am PST. rtrt.me/ulink/_RT/CRRM-CIM-2021/tracker/REYWZFA8/focus
Yes! Tailwind has been an absolute game changer for me!
Yes! Everyone I ever recommend it to loves it!
Learning a lot from your channel. Training for my first marathon 💪

I can handle gels now but there was a period of time where the only thing I could tolerate was Tailwind and I was so thankful for it!
Wonderful and beneficial information! Thank you so much!!! 😊
You are so welcome, Alex! The strategy went according to plan when I ran CIM back in December and all went well!
Sound plan. I like Huma gels as well.
I've tried several and I keep coming back to them! My stomach can tolerate most things, but the consistency of Humas is the best I've found.
@@runningwithjane, me too!
Nice inputs. will see you at race day
Thanks so much! Hope you have an excellent race - weather is looking good!
Great stuff! I've only run one marathon and I ate cookies and it was fine.😁 But this seems like very sound advice. Go Jane!

My fueling is killing my stomach and I get get more than 4 in for CIM. 17 miles was the last one I could take

Not at all! I've tried a lot and ultimately landed on Huma because they taste good and make me feel great!

Very sound plan. I add salt in my bottles instead of carrying salt tabs.
That's smart - thanks so much for sharing this great tip!!
do you consider the brand huma. good for gels most of the time?
Yep! It's what I used in combination with Tailwind for all my marathons and long runs last year!
The first huma gel you showed us is caffeine free..but you said you're taking it for caffeine.
Hi there - if you listen again, the exact words I say are, "I don't have a caffeinated one right now, but I'm going to be using a caffeinated gel." 👍
