    This weekend I ran Bristol 10k, a local and very friendly race around Bristol Harbourside. It was such a fun day out! Special shoutout to Dave who watched this channel and helped pace the race perfectly.
    Obviously 'without training' is subjective and simply means after 3 months or so of messing around with inconsistent running, strength training and lots of holidays (and too much alcohol). I have, of course, still been running bits and bobs.

    Great job Flora! Pretty speedy for any day of the week, let alone after a few months off and a hard night. Looking forward to seeing the next event you’re training for!
    On another note, thank you for sharing about your panic attack. You absolutely do not have to, but I know that you know that when we are open and share you not only help yourself but the 40.1 THOUSAND followers you have (holy moly when I first started watching you I think you were around 10k! Amazing.) ❤️

    Very well done indeed Flora! I did the half marathon distance, and my response to the cobbles was also one of frustration. So taxing after pushing for so long - my first half, so definitely not used to the distance. But you're right, the atmosphere was brilliant! BTW, I got an email from Great Run afterwards asking for me to fill a feedback survey in, and there were a few questions around improving the sustainability of the event in there with regard to finisher mementos etc, so if you haven't already, go and fill that one in. Let's make running green!

    Well done, Flora.
    You are a good runner, where ever you run 😄

    Its the crowd that does it.
    In trailraces its less apparent.

    Great work Flora! Thanks for taking us along and great pacing job. I usually start out too fast and pay a price for it by the end. I love your thoughts about extra race stuff. some of it winds up being junk. I love my t shirts though but I've been known to pass along shirts with less than cool designs on to newer runners or to the local charity. I do admit to having a lot of them, especially someone who has been racing for nearly 20 years. love your enthusiasm for the sport and look forward to your next adventure.

    Thank you for speaking about panic. I grew up in a generation that didn't understand or really acknowledge these events and they weren't talked about due to embarrassment, shame etc. Having people like you speak comfortably about panic attacks really helps to normalize such conditions and when people can talk about them it is a big step forward.

    Just ran the Helsingborg marathon where you have to tick on the entry form if you want a t-shirt (and give the size) and then pay extra. That means they have only the exact number they want made. It makes the shirt quite expensive but if it's a special race you'll pay.

I mix the threshhold, reps and hard sessions with long 20+ mile runs and continue to push the PBs into my 40th year. You can definitely train for both in a way that works. Well done Flora. Not taking the bag wouldn't have had much of an impact because they've already made up the pack so any spares would have just been thrown away. I think Tshirts should be an additional cost add on for all races. I recently did a local half marathon and the entry fee was cheap because you paid extra for the T-shirt. Even if races give the option to plant a tree or donate to charity, a lot of people think "well, I've paid for it so I may as well have it", which is fair enough to be honest. I didn't want a T-shirt so I got a cheaper race entry, everyone wins!!

    Strange to have the panic attack after such a long gap. Hopefully it was a one off. I had a string of them a few years ago, and I'm fairly sure it was just due to having too many plates spinning all at once and too much on my mind. No goody bags but a couple will have some aid station food at the end. The events all cost a lot of money but I don't know the splits between charity, event organisers, and local government (for road closures, police etc).

    Nice work! That's a fantastic 10K time. To note, for courses that are certified they cannot be short at all. So most courses will be a tiny bit long to as to be certified. And there is also GPS error. TBH, 10.07 (6.26) is the closest I have ever seen for the Garmin to 10K course. I have run certified courses at 6.35 (I was pissed at that one bc that would have been a PR).

      @FloraBeverley  2 роки тому

      @@FloraBeverley Yeah, I mean, I am speaking mostly from a USATF world, possibly it's different in the UK. But a local race, Old Pros 10K here in San Diego, in 2018 it was the course it was for 20+ years, 6.26 miles. In 2019 they had to "re-certify" it and then the course added this frustrating out and back near the end (it also is a jarring experience to have to 180 like that in the last mile) to make it long enough... then it registered 6.35 miles for me. Ultimately, I still call my PR the 2018 one even though I ran 3 seconds per mile faster in 2019. If you want a completely on the dot thing, run on a track but then you will want to stab your eyes out from boredom.

    Looks a good race - might have to try that next year if I can. 4:30/k over 10k is a really good pace! I'd be well chuffed with that (I'm at 49:30 ish as my 10k pb currently). Keep ya chin up .. you're an inspiration 😀
    That there pesky Harry Morgan (ua-cam.com/channels/eevBgehokNNlmbo8EaEDJg.html) has a lot to answer for though - he ruins other YT'ers videos ... I can't watch running videos any longer without spotting bright orange T-Shirts and thinking "I wonder if that's Harry?" 🤣

    Great run. 10.07km is a standard gps distance for a 10km. My last 10km race was 10.08km on the watch. I believe it accounts for error in measurement but I stand corrected.

    My June 2023 Half Marathon pace was 4:51. Since I've had some runs as low as 4:37 throughout the summer but the best I've ever managed yet was Oct 28/23 with a 5K race at 4:33 .... I'm 51 years old so I'm happy with that though I doubt I could sustain that kind of time for very many runs

    I did the half that year and had a look at the 10 k and thought from the map that it looked like it had a lot of sharp corners, so wondering if it was easy enough to get into a rhythm for having to turn another corner...did you find this? Good time by the way.

    • @FloraBeverley
      @FloraBeverley  7 місяців тому +1

      It wasn't much of a rhythm really but I stuck with the pacer for the most part and he was amazing, so I got it done! I wouldn't say it's the fastest course in the world, but for Bristol it's pretty good and flat! Hope you enjoyed the half?

    • @rebelsage3158
      @rebelsage3158 7 місяців тому +1

      @@FloraBeverley Yeah it was okay, but the second half followed much of the 10k course (and I found it very stop and start and er...cornery...is that a word?). The first half of the Half was a simple out and back along the Portway which is the faster section.

    Have you thought about donating the shirts to charity or homeless shelters? Here in the states, when I need a cheep shit I don't carte about, I go to goodwill and buy a used shirt. Goodwill also
    accepts clothes and other items as donations and resells them for spare change.

    • @FloraBeverley
      @FloraBeverley  2 роки тому +6

      Totally, but unfortunately there is also a crisis of charity shop waste. The majority of clothes given to charity shops don't get sold and are instead shipped to places like Ghana where they are dumped or sold for pittance, also disrupting the local clothing trade. Better for them not to be made in the first place, if it can be helped!

    Do you get thigh rub? Thigh burn/rash? I always get it if I do more than 5km. Is it my form? Do I have fat thighs? Lol is there a solution for this? I’ve tried all sorts of shorts. Pants are definitely better but I now live in Mexico where it’s over 30 degrees everyday so pants aren’t happening while I run. Anyone have advice or solutions?

      Heya! I do for long hot runs, it's completely normal! I wear 'cycling shorts' (longer shorts, not actually shorts for cycling) - check out 2XU and allbirds, they have some good pairs!
