Wow! You are so busy right now! Lots of great things! One thing to keep the littles undies not boring….maybe some Cricut ironing on vinyl to decorate. You are so kind to trace out all of the patterns for your class! I look forward to hearing about how it goes!!

The cricut decorating idea is a great one! Her favorite undies have Bluey and family on them, so I’m sure I could find some similar Bluey designs online to use.

I really like the Cielo dress, and the color block you did with the sleeves! I can see how the Mimi G set might be a little frustrating, and I don't particularly care for lower crotched pants, so I'm glad to have confirmation that this is not the pattern for me! Brady's outfits are adorable and I love the fabric of the shorts set. It's so cheery! Good luck with your class!

The Mini G set is a cute pattern, but yeah it’s not the most practical. A friend of mine sent me instructions for how to alter the crotch to raise it next time, so I’ll probably try that out. I really like them except for that issue.
Thanks Lara! She likes her soft pajamas a lot 🤗

OOOH I'm so glad you sewed up the MimiG set. I have grey fabric that is lighter weight with more drape. Hopefully it will work with the cowl neck. Yours is very nice and cozy. I love the drop crotch. I think Mimi G intended that. Also, NO NO NO NO NO NO to alterations!!! You are so nice to do that but I refuse. Too much stress and time. I admire your patience but NO for me! LOL 🤣🤣🤣 Your knit ribbed dress is adorable. Enjoy teaching! Your students are going to learn so much from you! Have a great weekend Erin!!

I definitely think a lighter weight fabric is the way to go for the top at least. Terry cloth wasn’t a recommended fabric for the top (it was for the bottom) if I remember right, and I think this is why. It’s just too hefty.
The class went really well and people said they learned a lot! We got almost no sewing done, but I assumed that would happen. We’ve added an open workshop in a few weeks so I can help people in person, but a few students have already sent me pictures of their finished makes!

Your Staycation dress looks pretty, Erin. You pick the best colors! I love a scoop neck or a v-neck on me; can’t stand anything up close to my neck. 😅
A tip I picked up from a ready to wear cowl neck is to make a square of fabric and insert a washer or a quarter into it. Sew that into the center front seam line. Doing that ensures that the top stays closer to the body to prevent mishaps. Obviously, if the top front piece doesn’t have a neckline, that won’t work. Ha! I haven’t found a fix for those. 😂
Brady’s little outfits are adorable! Isn’t it fun sewing for toddlers? I miss those days.
Alterations…no, not for me. When people first asked me to do them, they brought me mostly ball gowns and bridesmaid’s dresses. Shirt tail family members never paid me, either. So, no. When a local wedding dress shop wanted me to work for them doing alterations, it was a BIG NO. It’s just not fun for me, and I could imagine how I’d feel screwing up someone’s wedding dress. On with the fun things!
    Personally, I believe you’re a super hero, Erin! 😘

Thank you Lynn! I’m very drawn to the bright colors. I think I’d like the scoop neck more in a smaller size, so I might be willing to give it another try. I REALLY like v-necks.
That’s a clever hack! I’ll have to give it a go if I can find a way to sneak it into the front. There’s no center front seam but I’ll see if there’s another way I can attach it.
Oh I absolutely wouldn’t touch something like a wedding gown! That’s SCARY. 😱

Hi Erin. I agree with your comment on the Staycation dress neckline, I wonder what will change once you select the smaller size? Perhaps the neckline plus the waist length will fit better. Who knows. You're very brave doing other people's clothing alterations, good you got paid for it tho. I love the Cielo dress, it turned out so lovely. I actually love those sleeves. Very on trend! All the best for your class, you'll do a great job. It'll be fun!

I think I’m going to try the staycation again in a size or two smaller, and perhaps a knit with less stretch. This rub knit is super stretchy and heavy, which is definitely not helping.
The class went really well!! Thank you for the vote of confidence 🤗

Hi Erin! I love the fabric for your lounge set! I definitely see how the floppy in your face neckline would be annoying 😒 Hopefully the pants will get a lot of wear at least.
I’m using one fabric to make 3 different lounge pieces right now. I’ll share when completed.
I love your daughter’s outfits! They are so cute 😊
So VERY nice of you to do the alterations! Even for money it is too stressful for me.
Speaking of you being nice - tracing patterns for several of your students!! You are definitely right that without that step already done it would not leave much time for much else in the class.
If you decide that you actually like tracing patterns for other people, I can give you my list 🤣
Have fun teaching your class and I’m sure you’ll do great! 🙂

    • @ErinSews
      @ErinSews  2 місяці тому

Hi Michelle! I’ve been wearing the cowl neck top still, because it feels kind of weird to wear the pants without it, but it continues to annoy me so idk why I’m wearing it 🤔
I’m excited to see your loungewear! Are you using a French Terry? I seem to remember you getting some large cuts from Fabric Mart a while back? I might be misremembering.
She loves her soft pajamas! I just made her a Halloween nightgown that she said she’s going to wear tonight so we’ll see if she loves that too. She hasn’t worn a nightgown before but she said she was interested in wearing a dress at night 🤷🏻‍♀️😂
The tracing was worth it because we were able to get everything cut out in class, but that’s definitely NOT a freelance service I’ll be offering. Sooooo much work. I actually took the pattern pieces back at the end of class to use for future classes.
Speaking of, the class went really well and people said they learned a ton! We got basically no sewing done but a few people already finished up their garments at home and sent me pictures ☺️

I really like the look of the set and it’s very comfortable, especially the pants! I think a lighter fabric would eliminate some of the heaviness issues that the cowl neck is giving me

Love the Cielo Dress! The extra stitching looks so elegant. I plan to use those sleeves for my next top, but I've got a rayon to use for it. I'm guessing the rib-knit dress fabric is very stretchy 😉 I used a rayon spandex for a dress with a slightly gathered skirt once upon a time, and made it shorter at least! 😆 And it's still too long again and now looks like a dropped waist. If I decide I want to keep it, the shortening will have to happen at the bodice. 🤦‍♀🤦‍♀

Thank you! It’s currently on the mannequin in the shop and I’ve worn the t shirt version a few times. It’s a great pattern!
Ah yes you genius you. The fabric is definitely contributing to the problem. It’s very stretchy and heavy with all the gathering

@@ErinSews I think my purple knit dress was doomed from the start...... I also sewed the neckband on with the seam in the front 🤦‍♀

  • @ChristineSewsALot

I think why you don’t like the scoop is because it is too big. The neck kind of slips off your shoulder. Sometimes I understitch and then trim. I made the Lotta dress the other day and I wanted to top stitch along the neckline and I skipped under stitching. The pajama fabric!!!! It looks like colorful clouds.

    • @ErinSews
      @ErinSews  3 місяці тому

Yeah I think you’re right. I’m going to go down a size or two next time. I think the weight and stretch of this rib knit doesn’t help the situation at all.
Is there a reason patterns usually have you trim before understitching? Doing it in the reverse order definitely gives you more real estate to work with and handle.

Cowl neck, or waterfall neck… I call it a Cowl neck… it is super flattering, however yes sometimes the girls come out to play 😂. I think the crotch is a relaxed fit…
I like the Cielo dress, and can’t wait to hear how the class went…
    Like Bro 😂😂😂😂
It is annoying babe, trust me…. If someone has that pattern hard copy vs someone has the PDF, and you decide to do a collab but you don’t realise…. Totes ‘Like Bro’
I don’t like getting totally naked when doing to the loo either, I am so with Bradie….
Oh the same with flame retardant here in NZ… there needs to be a label too… I use to have to sew with FR thread with some of the uniform I needed to alter….
Yes it’s Mess dress in the military here…. We don’t have fun shirts here….
Unless you have an upfront price.. it’s not worth it no… they don’t understand the length of time it takes
I am nominating you for Sainthood!!! My least favorite thing is tracing the pattern…
Closest Alligator… we say… how do you eat an elephant…. One bite at a time… same same but different!
Haha, Mr Christopher is the worse sick person ever… she says as she is laying in bed with a cused back… waiting for the spa to warm up 🤔😬😳

YES thank you! Cowl neck is what I was thinking of. My brain was stuck on the “-WL” of shawl. I think because I had just been reading the dress and appearance regs (gag me, I thought I was done with that!) and the mess dress jacket has a shawl collar.
Yeah I won’t be leaping to do any more alterations, but they were both super appreciative and the money was nice I guess lol. I’d be willing to do more party shirts though. Very easy. You should make it a thing in NZ!
