True story: Knuckles Chaotix was not only meant to star Sonic, but it was meant to be on the Sega Saturn. Unfortunately it was gutted and rushed to completion on the 32X as the 32X needed a game. Sonic Crackers is the earliest prototype of when it was moved to the Genesis/32X. Sonic Crackers has incomplete hub worlds and has a rudimentary level select showing that there were going to be 7 Zones, meaning the game was also going to have a lot more meat on it's bones.
I hear it's because Sega of Japan feared that the 32X was going to flop, and thus, the Sonic game on said system would flop. So that's supposedly why it became a Knuckles game.

I think I had a rom of a Sonic the Hedgehog 4. It has the hub world music and it featured Sonic and Tails with tether rings. I know it existed because I tried so hard to finish the first level... Now I understand it was just incomplete xD Wish I could find it again

The bastard child of the Sonic Universe. I had this game way back in the summer of '95 and enjoyed it. Chaotix has a certain charm to it. I wish Sega would give it a proper re-release one of these days. Why they haven't already is beyond me.
Sonic Team wanted to give it a SEQUEL.

@@donkeykong6426 yes and I mean it could be something as simple as leaving the game untouched basically just allows you to play it. Or maybe they could make the ring power up or optional and if you have to do to combine game optional so that way it would at least be the definitive version to play when I move in either having to buy a 32X and a copy of the game plus a Sega genesis or having to use an emulator

I really wish SEGA had just put this magnificent gem on the Saturn instead, reasons being Sonic would've had a major game on the Saturn, they would have been able to put even more amazing stuff in it due to the Saturn's technical superiority to the 32X, it wouldn't be so rare, costly, and be a pain to get all the stuff needed to play it, and it would've been more well known, due to the fact it wouldn't have been on a failed add on. K.C. is why I got my 32X in the first place, and worth it too!

Even if this was on the Saturn it would still probably fail due to the whole game being based on the Ring Tether Gimmick. But if Sega made this a main game with Sonic like they originally wanted to with Sonic Crackers, No ring tether or it’s for one Zone, Released on the Saturn and doing well, The future Sonic Games would probably look a lot different, The main Trio of Sonic, Tails, And Knuckles could have been a lot different and expanded to 6 or 7 characters instead of just 3 if what I mentioned was done.
I hope SEGA rereleases this game at some point. Maybe they could get Christian Whitehead to port it like with 1, 2 & CD? Hell I wouldn't even mind an emulated rerelease on Steam and Consoles.
I mean, Whitehead is open to remaking this one.
With it's ROM modified to edit the release date (©SEGA ENTERPRISES, LTD 1995-2019) and add Sonic and Tails properly (and also remove Wechnia, because Wechnia is actually a glitched version of Tails)...
And add Ray the Flying Squirrel.

Indeed. Such a shame, that people give it a hate, simply because it was different from the classic trilogy, or because it wasn't simillar to Sonic Mania (which is basically the most strange claim, since Chaotix had much more new content and interesting ideas in general)

And I mean nowadays it’s kind of weird to get a 32x And I mean SEGA is it too lazy to rerelease them It could be something that allows for a change to make the ring power up optional and if you do the Clock game for the calm by power Bob it could be as simple as that and the game would be more accessible other than having only two ways to play it emulators which is the most common or the physical copy itself which is pretty expensive but it allows you to know that it works on Real hardware
I actually like this game more than Sonic 1, 2 and Mania

Believe it or not this is one of my favorite games, but maybe thats because I had a brother who made a great team with me and joked around with me while playing. The music and levels are great and each boss has its own theme. A beautiful game. Vector, Charmy and Espio were cooler back then too.

A lot of people criticize the game for the ring tether mechanic, honestly I think it looks like it would be a whole gotta fun to play with! Plus, what other game can you play as team chaotix in?

Maybe try getting a genesis emulator, and then download the game so you can play it. I had a genesis emulator on my phone they're not that hard to get.

Yea I was born in 2002 so I know how you feel, but I started to collect video games when I first started high school and can basically play any game I have a desire to. I have a 32X arriving tomorrow, so I'll be able to finally try this.
Update: Played this with a friend. We put in the stage select code and played as Heavy and Bomb. It was really really fun.

This looks like an interesting game. Unfortunately, I've never played it, but neither have many other people because you need the flop that is Sega 32X to play it.
Sega should have waited and released this a launch title for the Saturn.

I got it at the time 👍 Loved my 32X at the time, but on reflection, it was a pile of shit. Some awesome games though. Had this games soundtrack in my collection for the best part of two decades.
The good news is that you can emulate the 32X via the Mega Drive ROM option in Kega Fusion. That’s how I played the game, plus it allows quick saves for special stages which is good because you need them.
This is unironically my favorite classic sonic era game, or at least my second favorite

I know people claim that 32X games would be “too difficult to port”, but in a modern era where the Xbox One X exists and is said to be the most powerful console ever, it should be more than possible to port Knuckles’ Chaotix to other systems. I would KILL for a Knuckles’ Chaotix port for Nintendo Switch (physical copy only, not digital; my Switch doesn’t have internet).

06 is pretty bad. But it can't be worse than sonic free riders
Those special stages are pretty nuts with the forced scrolling and short draw distance
But technologically advanced for its time
Just like Sonic 2 but with polygons.
Also they have a smart use of the backward springs, unlike in Sonic 3 where they are used as an obstacle and in Mania that sometimes kills me with blue spheres (thanks God that at least they are very easy to access in that game)

+Master Zer0 More like they used Gens to record this, Kega fusion is capable of emulating the PWM drums but older versions of Gens can't emulate them properly.
All it takes for Chaotix to become 10 times more playable is one simple thing. Hold your partner with the B button, and release when you feel like it, or if you're forced to. That's it. You can even use them as a battering ram. Far from unplayable that way.
Now I know where those "swap characters" monitors (with the two arrows in a "circle" formation) from Sonic Mania Plus (Encore Mode) came from!

I've played the original 32X the drums were heard.
If you play the rom in Gens, for some reason the percussion cannot be heard.
I never did understand that..

This game should have been ported to the Saturn. The Sega Saturns life would have lasted longer.
Even a sega svp game as well. I really wanted to see a remaster version of sonic cd or the cancelled sonic 3 limited on the saturn.
lord i remember seeing this game in a window of a mall in the 90s and they were also showing off the 3DO and its capability of playing "2 Stupid Dogs" cartoons on discs that were only CD level of storage IIRC. at the time i was like "who would want their videos on fragile plastic discs?" but i wanted to try that manic looking sonic-like game. at last i can see what i was missing. this game is really insane and lives up to its name.

Game Domain you can switch but not at will in game. A co-op would be good, AI isn't the best.
