Taking a break from on my sewing blitz day to drink rooibos tea, eat bhuja mix and watch my favourite UA-camr. Good to see you getting more use out of the stays pattern that caused you so much hassle last time round. Some truly excellent looks here. I especially like the one with the black peplum effect, and Dread Pirate Courtney right at the end.
Aww those outfits are all lovely. I love how they range from more sweet with a little black bow and velvety jacket to more sinister with dark stays and blood-red scarf and thus cover the whole Stede-Blackbeard range so to speak. =) Also I am a tiny bit mesmerized by the skirt. The stripes of the fabric in combination with folds and movement make me think of animated 3D crosshatching which is just such a cool effect.

Fun!! I, too, was super happy that the subtext in the show WAS subtext. It was wonderful and refreshing. 100% need to get my closet cosplay on, now... Also...been low key heming and hawing about using quilting cotton for a new set of (Regency) stays, because I can't find what I wanted in other fabrics...was worried it wouldn't be robust enough...so I'm glad you said something!
I wouldn’t use quilting cotton on its own; it won’t stand up to being supportive. But With two layers of twill as linen and interlining, it’s just fine as a fashion fabric.
Oh such timing. Come home to the notification of An Opus Elenae vid. Cracked up laughing cos I had been pirating all day. I was out and about today (saturday) in my red and black hitched skirt, white gypsy blouse and a black high low peplum waistcoat i had designed and made myself a few years back. topped off with a headscarf and tricorn. Had to wear my frankenstein'd regency short stays underneith as dont have any correct period ones yet. Loved the outfits.
I am enjoying the black stays and renfaire goodness. They look so good in a variety of ways. I recently got the Butter Pekhaaaan by Table top teas. Very yummy! Go forth an cosplay all the gay pirate goodness
ahhhhhhh! the piratey history bounding awesomeness!!! I really really need to make some stays now. Is there a specific size/thickness of zip tie that you used? That sounds easier to get a hold of than proper boning. Plus, I won't lie, the "alternate materials" reminds me of a costume under bust corset I made in college that was boned with repurposed mountain dew bottles 🤣

The long sleeve black top and black skirt (outfit with the sword) gave me ~steampunk but from an earlier time period~ vibes and I love it.

I think I just put in "heavy duty zip ties" into amazon? I know you can get them at home depot or Lowe's too. They've held up really nicely.
