Nice video, interesting pitch... I don't think I would go camp on it but have to say it looks cool. Also very good presentation/talking on camera. I would say don't care too much what others say or do in their videos. It's their business/problem. You do what you like and good at. Good luck with your knee!🙂

Loved the video haha funny, cute hairy horse/ponny, epic tent pitch. I bet some youtubers would call it 'I survived on a wild island, alone, chased by a shark!' + some stupid thumbnail lol...drama in some other videos people sleep in woods faking something was noisy or that somebody was there bla bla...thats why I prefer few days walking proper trips or on the trail, one day nights are easy and half boring to watch and people do anything to get more views, just my opinion. Btw as some other people say, try walking poles they make massive difference especially going up hills or when on muddy slippery paths, I have bad knees but never had much problems when walking long distance with them. I also use Altras Lone Peaks 6 and there are quite flat, I think its better, Insoles and higher heel shoes kills your knees too. Ye barefoot shoes helped me in that. Doing John Muir Way or West Highland Way in 2 weeks im so excited, cannot decide which one to do lol... Cannot wait to see your long distance walk one day in the video haha

And your videos are honest and enjoyable, both fir the views and insights. Fed up now with everyone wanting to be sponsored or having to show the latest thing they got free tbh, spoils the essence of the outdoors for me.
The walking up there is great isn't it? Big big views, easy paths, a fair bit of escapism too. I fully understand what you're saying about the commercial aspect of UA-cam. It kind of goes with the territory, so I hope I can keep using it to show you all good things and bad things without it feeling like I'm running some kind of online shop. Camping back in "England" is ok in my book...lol Great Hill is Cats Back - or Crib y garth as some call it - talking of names btw, I think the point you mention Waun Fach your are actually looking at the pimple shaped Pen Y Gadair Fawr which is about 9m lower then said Waun Fach but actually from all parts of the blacks it look taller - I can even see it from my local hill. (I actually live at 1161ft btw) I am glad that you pointed out the kneee problem caused by the boots - I have had similar probs over the years and its not always cheap boots that can cause it - in fact I wear £130 Hitech boots these days for comfort. Lol.... wind, if anyone has been up there they will know you don't need to "fake it" Light reading.. you really need to have been reading Bruce Chatwin's "On A Black Hill"...lol. Lovely timelapse btw. Arrgh, was so disappointed to see the rain at sunrise - that ridge is a perfect place for a sunrise & was hoping you would get one. Hello Al. I thought I'd better stray back over to the English side to keep you happy...for one night, at least 😉 I see now - the Cat's Back technically stops at Black Hill trig point then, does it? One casualty of me not wanting to research places too thoroughly before I arrive (for fear of spoiling the adventure) is that I'm perhaps not as factually accurate in my videos as I could (should?) be. Thanks for setting me straight on the various geographical errors! 😣 Footwear is extremely important, isn't it? The knock-on effects of the wrong shoes are numerous. Ironically, the new shoes are REALLY comfy, but have this nasty effect on just one knee for some reason. If your Hi-tech boots work for you; I say buy 10 pairs to keep you set for years to come!! I feel like I'm failing on the reading homework you've give me 😂😬 Thanks a lot for the offer of salvation. If I end up stuck again I'll remember to drop you a line. Very much appreciated 👍 James.
P.S. I hope you get on top of your own knee and hip issues. It rapidly becomes a real concern when walking isn't a default ability, doesn't it, even when it's only a temporary niggle.
Very nice. Cool spot to camp at. As with others, I suggest trekking poles. They especially help with taking the load off your knees when going downhill. They also help keep my hips straight when navigating through uneven terrain. I'm getting over knee/hip soreness from the previous trip and thinking I'd probably strain my knee if I didn't have trekking poles on me. It might be because the cushion on my shoes are worn. Or my gait was really bad when going downhill. Hope you feel better.
Hi Rod. Yes I was really happy with that little spot I found! Thanks for your suggestion. I think I'd like to try trekking poles at some point, mainly for taking the pressure off my knees on descents. Oddly, it wasn't the usual action of putting weight on my leg that was causing this new pain, it was more the motion of lifting the leg and bringing it forward for its next step. I think it must be the angle of the soles on the new shoes, or perhaps a change in arch support - a bit like the suspicions you're having with your own aches and pains. Thanks Mark! My Atmos is the first "proper" rucksack I bought. It's seen a fair bit of use and is holding up very well. It's a tough old beast, and is fairly heavy as a result, at just over 2 kg. It's perfect for me, for winter camps, as my Exos 48 can't QUITE hold everything I need for the colder trips (including filming gear). You almost have the full Osprey set now! 😅 James.

James, sorry about the sore end to a great video. Ah knee probs, I know something of! Recommend 1 athletic knee supports(the elastic ones which athletes wear). 2 Trekking poles,they are not just for old people. They give you better stability and traction. They considerably reduce knee strain especially when descending. They also help you to use your upper body when climbing hills. 3 Reduce your pack weight as much as possible. 4 Get some advice about your walking posture from an expert. A good running shop that does gait analysis? For example my ankles lean inwards, so I have a high arch lift. (I use a brand called 3 Feet which are very good.).
I was thinking of you, Pete. I know you have unfortunate experience in this department! Oddly, the weight makes no difference. I had the same pain when walking the previous weekend (in these same new shoes) and didn't have a pack on, so it seems to be more of a gait/foot position think than overloading of the joint. I think it could well be the kind of thing an insole could correct, plus maybe some stretching. For now, I'll revert back to my old shoes and see if the issue goes away, then I have somewhere to start from 👍 Thank you for your words of wisdom 😊 James.
@@joinmeoutdoors trekking poles also help if you have an injury. They reduce the risk of further aggravating an injury you’re carrying. Hope you’re back in it soon.
@@joinmeoutdoors how’s the knee James? Another thing I was thinking about was the inserts I mentioned. I originally got a gait/posture analysis at Futopia. My wife got one at a specialist running footwear shop. Anyhow I found later at a walking boot shop, inserts which did the same job at a third the price. So, I put the inserts in whatever footwear I’m using which means I’m not changing footwear even though I am. Get it? Also I get new ones every few months. My knee prob was early wear and tear exacerbated by breaking my toe and being a codger! Hope this helps. I was out in the SC1 in the Dales on Tuesday last. Best wishes P

I myself don't give a hoot if people make their vlogs/videos more dramatic than they actually are, it's entertainment for the viewers at the end of the day, as a viewer myself, I think I could tell if anyone I watch was doing that, I can see and hear and make a judgement for myself, your viewers and everyone else's aren't stupid, that I'm sure of. But if stuff is added, or even taken away, most (including me) DO NOT CARE!! it's just fun for everyone and even a place to learn. The people who complain or accuse can always watch something else. How it going James, Lots to talk about in your video🧐I here an english man's home is his castle but I've never seen a tent turn into one with a mort aorund it 😂🤣. As you might of gather from my comments I am experience wild camper and I can smell the BS channels a mile off and some of the clickbait Like -70c 300mph winds in a bin liner with no sleeping bag 🙄🤪😂 I think I mention on a previous video about hiking poles being a part of my kit, Would of have provide some support for your knee to get you back to your car. Oddly, putting weight on the knee was fine, but simply lifting that leg to swing it forward again is what hurt. Something for me to address. I think it has to be the shoes. I've never had this issue before, and it arrives on my first two longer walks after switching to the new shoes. Proper nuisance as they're actually really comfy on my feet when I'm walking!

Ok, so the sun’s really hot right, I mean hotter than a cup of tea, a lit cigarette end or an iron even. The sun is up in the sky. So how come when you go up a hill or mountain even though you’re now nearer to the sun it gets colder? Makes no sense whatsoever….
Good question, and I think you're right to state that the sun is warmer than irons, so you're clearly not messing about here! I think it might have something to do with the insulating effect of hills, trees and buildings that prevent the wind from whisking warmth away from the earth's surface. Clouds and general airborne moisture hold warmth in at lower altitudes too. I like the question though, as patio heaters definitely feel hotter when you stand up to walk away from a pub table, because you've moved your head upwards and closer to the heat source 😁

Recommend 1 athletic knee supports(the elastic ones which athletes wear). 2 Trekking poles,they are not just for old people. They give you better stability and traction. They considerably reduce knee strain especially when descending. They also help you to use your upper body when climbing hills. 3 Reduce your pack weight as much as possible. 4 Get some advice about your walking posture from an expert. A good running shop that does gait analysis? For example my ankles lean inwards, so I have a high arch lift. (I use a brand called 3 Feet which are very good.).
I was thinking of you, Pete. I know you have unfortunate experience in this department! Oddly, the weight makes no difference. I had the same pain when walking the previous weekend (in these same new shoes) and didn't have a pack on, so it seems to be more of a gait/foot position think than overloading of the joint. I think it could well be the kind of thing an insole could correct, plus maybe some stretching. For now, I'll revert back to my old shoes and see if the issue goes away, then I have somewhere to start from 👍 Thank you for your words of wisdom 😊 James.

@@joinmeoutdoors how’s the knee James? Another thing I was thinking about was the inserts I mentioned. I originally got a gait/posture analysis at Futopia. My wife got one at a specialist running footwear shop. Anyhow I found later at a walking boot shop, inserts which did the same job at a third the price. So, I put the inserts in whatever footwear I’m using which means I’m not changing footwear even though I am. Get it? Also I get new ones every few months. My knee prob was early wear and tear exacerbated by breaking my toe and being a codger! Hope this helps. I was out in the SC1 in the Dales on Tuesday last. Best wishes P

Gait analysis and insoles are a route I may go down if I can prove to myself that my old shoes definitely don't give me this new knee pain. I'm glad you've had the SC1 out again! I myself don't give a hoot if people make their vlogs/videos more dramatic than they actually are, it's entertainment for the viewers at the end of the day, as a viewer myself, I think I could tell if anyone I watch was doing that, I can see and hear and make a judgement for myself, your viewers and everyone else's aren't stupid, that I'm sure of. But if stuff is added, or even taken away, most (including me) DO NOT CARE!! it's just fun for everyone and even a place to learn.

Oddly, putting weight on the knee was fine, but simply lifting that leg to swing it forward again is what hurt. Something for me to address. I'm still open to giving poles a bash 👍 Thanks for watching again 🙏🏻 James.

I think it has to be the shoes. I've never had this issue before, and it arrives on my first two longer walks after switching to the new shoes. Proper nuisance as they're actually really comfy on my feet when I'm walking!

Ok, so the sun’s really hot right, I mean hotter than a cup of tea, a lit cigarette end or an iron even. The sun is up in the sky. So how come when you go up a hill or mountain even though you’re now nearer to the sun it gets colder?

Good question, and I think you're right to state that the sun is warmer than irons, so you're clearly not messing about here! I think it might have something to do with the insulating effect of hills, trees and buildings that prevent the wind from whisking warmth away from the earth's surface. Clouds and general airborne moisture hold warmth in at lower altitudes too. I like the question though, as patio heaters definitely feel hotter when you stand up to walk away from a pub table, because you've moved your head upwards and closer to the heat source 😁
