Lightning Hits My Truck

  • On Memorial Day, this very strong storm developed, with two funnel clouds, 60 mph winds, hail, heavy rain and an incredible amount of lightning. I had my video cam sitting on my car in the garage trying to get some footage of the funnel cloud when suddenly my house and truck got hit! It put a hole right above the drivers side roof and damaged one of antennas. Minimal damage in the house. I was about 15' from my truck working in the garage when it happened. it's two days later and I can still feel it in my body. I'm sorry for the editing it was the first time I tried moving from Final Cut to iMovie and I made my scene changes slow down so you can see the strikes but it all changed when I upload it! I'll fix it when I get some time.
    You get the idea though.

So used to it, I live in Florida and during the summer we get this a lot and it doesn't really scare anyone, I've had lightning hit 15 feet away from me once when I was in my grandparents house it hit a tree I jumped but we're very used to it.

Amazing vid. Thankyou for posting it. I live in Phoenix and we have amazing lighting storms cause of the dry hot air. Just lighting some thunder and no rain. I love watching them even if they are deadly.

Good job with your first edit. That looked like one mean storm.
No rain + close lightning = fun.
I was in my car when it got hit by a small lightning bolt, back in 2002. The engine died and it took forever for the battery to start it back up.

Cars get hit often during storms. Most of the time you're safe inside them as a shielded
F-cage. But some of these strikes are gigantic and would easily vaporize whatever it strikes.

we had a fairly similar storm, less winds, more lightning. One of the worst ive seen. Lightning so close, only a slight pause before the sound reached us, not even a second. Saw the bolt build up and disintegrate like a series of roman candles shooting off sparks and shit, it was fuckin ridiculous man xD love storms...from a moderate distance of coarse :P

Dude you're lucky you're not dead. I've been awfully close to a big strike before (felt it in my body for at least 5-6 hours, bolt was 200 feet away, almost completely deaf for about 1/2 hour, burned retinas in the shape of the bolt for about an hour), but not that god damned close. Holy crap.

Arizona gets storms like these but taken up a notch. Sonetimes the sky is a purple hued strobe light. The storm unleashes CG like machine gun fire, many a minute. Once a bolt hit a tree in my backyard and split it open, sending burning fragments which were extinguished by the aerial flood of rain, then blown away by the hurticane force wind.

I grew up in Fort Lauterdale. I remember that thunder very well. Question: I'm blind, and I've heard much louder thunder than that when I've been in a vehicle or building and lightning struck. Was that included in the audio portion of the video? I kept expecting the bomber blast!
