I stored my mixes and ingredients in the original bags and my cats decided otherwise one day. I let the bags sit on my desk and didn’t close the door when I left for class. Not a single bag was still safe for fungus gnats, they had chewed on every bag some where still quite intact and just had some little chew marks. But damn the biggest bag of universal compost was shredded open one part still on my desk the other part was everywhere on my office floor.😂 They had had a lot of fun rolling and digging it. They came happily to me when I entered the apartment that day with soil crumbs in their fur.😭😂😂 now I have them all in plastic boxes bcs that was not fun at all.😂😂
Ah, yes. The joys of gardening with cats! Mine haven't been interested in my soil (yet), but they do have definite ideas about where I'm allowed to place my plants. They express their opinions either with the classic "throw it off the shelf" move, or, if it's a larger/heavier plant, then by punching lovely little holes in the leaves, or digging up the soil. They really are very effective communicators, and even my plants tend to agree that they'd rather have less/more sun, airflow or humidity than they prefer if they get to keep their soil, roots, and leaves undisturbed and without puncture wounds in exchange.
So glad I’ve found your channel, I’m just going change over to this new substrate and it’s been so overwhelming. I love how you explain in quantities and how it all works. Thank you ❤
I just bought at Home Depot, reg soil, orchid bark, and cactus mix. They didn’t have worm castings or coco coir. I want to pot my monstera which I’ve had in water for over 6 months.
just bought several bags of Soil Ninja, thanks to you and Claire 😜. Looking so forward on delivery of it. Thanks for the information. Great weekend. Grtz from Belgium 🤩
This is a defo to be saved too my useful list. Thanks so much. I get a bit muddled with all the choices so this will now be my goto vid when it's time to repot.
Wonderful video! I've had a few friends ask about how I make my soil and what to use. This video summed up every so perfectly I just shared it with them😊💚
This is super helpful thank you! I use fox farm co co coir and perlite. My plants love it. Orchid bark is so big and doesnt work with my soil mix it’s so annoying
This was a great video!! It really was a 101 on soil. Perfect for any beginner or even intermediate plant parent. I learned some things I didnt know. Which is cool. Soil Ninja is lucky to have you in there corner. Here I am in the US wishing I could buy it for my next repot. You really are happy consumer of their products. US youtubers tend to mention Sol Soils but they don't seem as enthusiastic as you are about Soil Ninja. 🤭😆🤫
Hehe thanks! Yeah I think they're hoping one day to expand to the States. I know they're about to open up shop in Europe so who knows! It could be sooner than you know!
Thank you so much for the wealth of information here and for making it so easy to make a soil blend at home. I have a question. I know that orchid bark and coco chips are different things, but I don't know what makes them different in the blend. Do coco chips have the same properties for aeration and drainage? Can they be used interchangeably? Thank you to anyone who can help!
how do I let my soil dry?? Like, I don't wanna keep it open all the time because rn I am fighting off these little flies (Trauermuecken, idk the english term) and don't want the soil to get infected
I love you Emma but I cringe so hard when someone calls themselves a “plant parent”. It’s like when someone who has a dirty smelly dog call themselves a “dog mommy”. I don’t have kids and I never will. So I’m not a parent. Only people who make that ultimate sacrifice of getting kids deserve to call themselves parents.

I like to mix in mosquito bits into my soil to help fight off fungus gnats since it does kill fungus gnat larvae while adding aeration to the soil

I’ve recently bought a soil mix for Monstera with kermesite in it - I’ve never used it myself but the mix feels nice and chunky.

Any recommended alternatives to soil ninja for shoppers in the US?
I found out if it’s moist it gets moldy after while. I gotta find a better way to store fresh soil.
air flow will help with that
