In this video, I discuss all the reasons I would be a horrible retention NCO during your ETS/re-enlistment window. Enjoy! Alex bit.ly/PT1SG-Tw... bit.ly/PT1SG-IG bit.ly/PT1SG-WEB
Thanks for that 1st Sergeant. I remember getting out of A.I.T. and being bummed out by just sitting around at drill and thinking is this it? Fortunately we've had some good training this last year. I look forward to drill when we have good training.
That's what's-up! Take notes, study your MOS and all the army warrior tasks and battle drills so that you can start transitioning into leading/influencing training events. Stay motivated.
Well for me it was the opposite. No one praised my soldier greatness when I was the Michael Jordan of the army so that really made me feel like no one cared about me. So I got out.
Baby steps... Before we do that in the field, let's start in garrison first and work our way up. Stop by my AO M-W-F and you can join me on my quick 4mi. Nothing crazy. civilian PTs, boots and 35lbs+ ruck or backpack. ;)
This is where I stand now. I almost don't want to go to drill anymore because I'm so frustrated. Would it look bad if I re up but ask to go to a different company?
Let me give you some cliche advice: 1 - Be the change you want to see 2 - Be aggressive with your ideas ONCE and only ONCE you understand your commander's ultimate objectives and ensure your ideas are nested within his objectives 3 - If you indeed have done everything you've possibly could have done to make a positive change with no results, then maybe it's time to move on to a different unit. If so, start shopping around and see if there is another unit out there for you. Work with a recruiter and ask them what your options are. However, give you NCO Support channel an opportunity to hear you out and answer some of your concerns. They may not be aware of what's going on. It's likely that others feel the same way. Ask to view the 12mo training plan. Understand that other units may not be any better. Another option is to ask for white space within your group and aggressively plan training that supports the unit's mission. If you're an E5 and bellow, it should heavily focus on AWT/BD. If you're E6 and above, it should be focused on squad level MOS tasks. Draw up a plan, ensure you write an AAR afterward to include pictures. Work with your PL so he can give you some pointers and also give him an opportunity to buy into the idea. Look ahead. Don't try to change 30 day plans but instead look into the 90day+ range. Hope some of the advice above helps shape your final decision.
PartTime1SG I took your advise. I wrote everything you wrote on the comment on my note pad and set goals. I took charge of my military career and never lost focus. I started reading FM’s and making power points and teaching classes. Soon after I was placed on a CPL position at my unit. I continued to mentor soldiers and challenge my immediate leadership to better ourselves. Fortunately my squad leader was very on board and push me to the next level. This summer I went to BLC and on 23 July 2020 I was promoted to E5. I currently re enlisted on that same unit and have made it my mission to push others to better themselves and motivate to get everything done to get promoted. Thank you for all the advise Top! 🙏🏼 I am currently looking for an opportunity to volunteer for a deployment with any unit deploying, that’s my next goal.
@@piry24 Shit man (correction, SGT), sometimes I need that motivation--whether it comes from my NCO support channel, my peers, highspeed lower enlisted, or even re-reading one of my own comments on UA-cam. You and I just need to remind ourselves that we ARE the change we want to see in our organizations and a single spark is all it takes for the best within us to come out. I'm willing to bet your action inspired your squad leader to re-evaluate his commitment; and that my friend is leadership. You are indeed an inspiration. **as far as deploying... Don't be too stuck on unit deployments. If you can, look-up Tour of Duty (TOD), also referred to as MOBCOP. You may be able to volunteer for ADOS tours such as ADMIN ADOS, OPADOS, COADOS (I have a video on that my not sure I've published it yet), that could take you anywhere in the world including contingency locations. This gives you the flexibility to pick and know what you want to do before pushing forward. It will also expose you to your active duty counterparts where you can learn a lot of new skills and techniques as a leader. However, ensure your chain of command is on board prior to submitting an application as it will required their signature for it to push forward. Good luck and keep crushing it!
Top, I’m prior service, considering going back to an Army Reserve component. However, I am contemplating the Reserves. Would you recommend the National Guard over the Army Reserves? I’m in Texas.
PartTime1SG Enlisted with the Guard. Enlisted in 2018 as a SPC. 2019 made my SGT, and currently scheduled to go to ALC. God willing I should be pinning my 6 in 2021.

PartTime1SG Roger, Top. Your videos have inspired me tremendously. It’s all about the Joes. I have dedicated myself to be a Leader and have a competent APFT score. That has helped me promote.
Im in the army atationd in ft drum ny and this is true for active military too im only a spc but you bond way more climbing up that hill then you will sitting on your phone
PartTime1SG no doubt, as a new part time Commander I'm working on it with my AGRs to ensure that the Directorates have their own training plans created. They shouldn't be relying on the orderly room to create this for them.

Somebody needs to fix those roads
Those darn bumpy express lanes... It's actually that way by design. That's what happens when you give an engineer partial credit in college. :)
So....... When are we gonna do that TOP?? Let's Ruck that 6 kilo, I'm down for it!!

Jesus Santiago do reserves
