These pools work with nature to provide safe bathing water without the use of chemicals.
Bill made this pool for around £6,000. A fraction (1/10) of the cost of a commercial installation. The decking and paved areas were and additional cost. Bill bought David Pagan Butler's DVD (Natural Swimming Pools - a guide to building and designing your own) and Organic Pools DIY Manual. He also attended one of David's courses.

If you use a lighter color liner will it allow you to see the bottom easier and maybe some solar powered lights. I want to know there are no snakes or other animals in it
+Henry Cristiano Gonsalves Dark liners help heat the water... :)
exactly!
Henry Cristiano Gonsalves exactly. I don't fuck with snakes
Henry Cristiano Gonsalves this is a paradise for piton in Florida.
DeVonte Gray it made me think of my childhood and still irrational fear that their is a shark hiding in the deep in lmao
That's lovely. We cannot do that here in Florida, USA. You would set yourself up to be alligator bait!
mrreoww4840 what about a fence? aligators can't jump
pustel In florida, they figure out a way
pustel yes they can
They can climb fences and bust through your screened in pool with no effort. I'm not kidding. Don't know where you hail from but I've lived in west central Florida most of my life. Not only do you need to check for gators but water moccasins (venomous snake) but snapping turtles as well. Welcome to Florida kids!
mrreoww4840 😂 cant do it in chicago IL youd freeze 87% of the time
those must be some slippery ass algae steps
with the plants providing extra oxygen thus the algae stays away, besides the black color liner also prohibits algae growth while providing more warmth

Still the best call of the post 😆
Great ending with all the people swimming in the pool
How does this thing look now, three years later? Another video, please. :-)

Mosquitos, frogs, algae and a fine for no drain.
Very nicely done. Did you add any tiny fish like Minnows or mollies to eat any bugs that decide to lay breed in the water ?
Having a pool, that filters it water via plants and things like that is the dream, but then also, i wanna build it myself
From a pool builder in the US I got one word for it. Amazing!!!! Grate work looks so good...
It's a pond bro. Not a pool
Vincent2wice from an English speaker in the US, grate is actually the word he meant to spell....idk if you know this but a grate is like a covering (a drain covering for example)
@@thebrewmore264 it’s actually both
Two Men in Fort Worth Texas built a spring fed public pool of 1 main gallon capacity in 1951, it had sand well fluidized bed filtration and was crystal clear, but the concrete didn't last after many repairs and a few owners it fell into disrepair after a drowning in 1981
Definitely one of my favorite organic pools
Like this idea keen to try on a slightly smaller scale. I have extreme weather conditions in my part of the world. My biggest concern is alge forming, and
evaporation during summer. Maybe a pond to to see how it goes first then a small pool. Thanks for sharing this, the pool looks very inviting, and I hope the owner enjoys his new pool.
they should sell ocean blue or green tarps instead of black. it will give the water a nicer and more inviting look!
ask about whether a white or black/green plastic tank is better, you will find the white tank is an algae farm, black is a good passive heating system to warm the water along with a medium to dark green or even blue also help keep algae at bay along with the plants providing natural algae killing oxygen into the water as well
Excelent project!!!! I loved it! Thanks for sharing David!!! Greetings from Argentina!
Excellent build - not sure how I haven't seen this before but definitely a job well done.
I've just put someone on to you with regards to advice about natural swimming pools.
Won't the wood rot over time? And what about mosquitoes and such? I know the water isn't stagnate but still it would be considered a pond no?
Yes, but the integrity of the wood will be maintained for years and years, and if you're that worried, the lining can tear, the cement and mortar can crack, etc. etc.
And mosquitos require stagnant water to breed, which is why the problem exists. This body of water is circulating. Mosquitos won't be a huge problem.
Plus mosquitos don't live everywhere, so where this guy lives is also a factor.
larsonny77 wood will not rot if it stays submerged.
larsonny77 wood needs oxygen to rot, so if submerged then you're fine. You realize Venice, Italy was built on a wooden beam foundation right? You know how old that city is? It'll be fine.
What about the frogs?
Republic of Texas, actually Italy uses Piles it sit on, not just beams, and only sinking due to the wood deteriorating due to the movement of the buildings and people walking rhythm, woods does not live forever underwater where aquatic wood borers persist and is only 'sinking' due to tides thus why they have built those barriers to protect it sometime into the future.
They really should look at replacing those piles with carbon/dyneema/fiberglass/kevlar composite piles as they are impervious to rust unlike steel, wood borers and rot like wood, or washout and rust deterioration like reinforced concrete. But that would be a vast and very highly costly operation
I wanted to comment on how BEAUTIFUL it was to have no stupid background music searing my brain.
Oh...and how excellent the actual build and pool is.
Louise, Australia 🦘
They taking this whole organic thing to the next level
Absolutely beautiful.
Bravo bill! great planning I hope it's still healthy!
Inspiring stuff!! Love the natural look and how the edge area would be a haven for wildlife (frogs, newts etc.). If me and the fiancee get a big enough garden when we get our house together, I'm definitely doing this!!! :D
delicious swimming lol wtf
when dumb marketing goes dumber
Ha Kou lol
Jacob Clark LOL
Jacob Clark lol
Jacob Clark Eating snakes while swimming?? Dunno
turns out beautifully
wow! beautiful pool. so much nicer than the ponds of yesteryear.
Love this pool!!
Awsome pool and cool video!
This is fantastic. I had a dream about this, earlier this week. Must do it.
Excellent job looks great well done
David, would you have any insights to share on whether or not something similar could be realized in a more Southern Mediterranean setting... On a Greek Island such as Crete for example? I was wondering for instance about whether or not their indigenous aquatic flora would perform the same in terms of filtration capabilities
Absolutely beautiful x
Best thing seen in a long while
amazing job
This is pretty cool..
Good work guys.. Great job
Breathtaking!
Cool, a giant swimming pond.
I like this over the generic type pools
Im going to incorporate a clearer bottom and turf grass. I rate this one a 10 thumbs up
Wow! It is beautiful.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 belo trabalho, parabéns 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
gorgeous just gorgeous
Very nice ... lots of hard work ... must be nice to sit back on a nice day and feel proud .... better than my Asda blow up pool for sure ....
thats freaking awesome!
Delicious swimming ...
Very well done!!
That's a pond ....thats a beautiful pond!!! 🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸
Amazing. Beautiful.
I have a back yard that floods badly. I would love some figure out some way to make one of these in my back yard that is connected to the current of the stream when it rains.
Ficou um paraíso esse lugar.
That is amazing very beautiful
Hi, are the air lift pumps plumbing/inlet below the gravel by the regeneration zone?, and blocked off from the gravel but big enough compartment to push the water back up into main swim area?
Good job guys
Very cool!
Beautiful
Silly question : how did you manage to do the steps AFTER rolling the liner? Did you make the "structure" with the oak and then paved it ?
hello it's beautiful. can you tell me what is the wood used to make the partition between the swimming pool and the basin filtran thank you
For people who like to swim in natural clean water but don't like plants or animals when swimming, there are ways to create a Natural Living Pool that looks like a normal swimming pool.
This type of Natural Swimming Pool is also perfect if you want to have a modern styled garden.
How?
O you forgot to say how
You just don't add plants to it @@nenala7684
Delicious swimming
You guys did such an amazing job! That’s one of the best ones I’ve seen so far! Thank you for sharing!
that is so amazing and beautiful
Delicious swimming~
gorgeous
This is kinda cool! It a bit like a pond.
Does the perforated circulation pipe under the gravel have end cap on or is it just left ? And are there two separate ones or do they join together?
Bellissimo allevamento di zanzare, complimenti
That is really cool!!!!
the more I watch, the more I want one!
I love it.
Ok why is it that the UK seems to do every thing more naturally right than anywhere on the planet.
This is absolutely fantastic ....perfect shape perfect big size and oh my the plant selection are wonderful. Lots of surrounding land and oh so clean and fresh. Very nicely designed , planned and built.
But ! Warning .... I am a snake !
And I love to hang out around your garden most days. Im pretty well hidden even though I do like to go swimming sometimes. I'm not sure if I real venomous. But I will bite if you get in my way to harm me.
Thanks for the lovely garden water the snake says I'm happy.
how you drill hole for drain pipe through ground?
how big your hdpe liner?
Yup I'm on the relaxing side of UA-cam 👍 great video
Do the oal beams not float up? Do you have to attach them to the wall below, puncturing the liner?
Bella piscina, y ¿cuando nadas no se enturbia el agua?
Nice!😮
A question please, i wnt to dig a pond of 60.000 liters. I was not planning to use cincrete or walls in concrete cellblocks. I was planning to dig a hole the walls will be dugged declined so not straight down, then put the protectclorh and liner in done ( to put it simple).. Is this possible. Wull the pressure of the water hold the walls standing? Thanks in advance Guy- Louis
*delicious swimming*
what about keeping it clean from bugs
Never seen a bug infested natural pool that was properly maintained with flowing water. Seen plenty of neglected chemical pools succumb to algae and aquatic bugs
Great stuff....Can you tell us how it has stood the test of time please?
that's so cool
What is that white textile? looks amazing, i want to do it in home. Great!
mmm, that's going to smell fantastic after a few months
That is amazing
where can you buy the textile under liner and pond liners here in the US?
Great work. Now in a few months you might find snakes hanging around....
One of the big reasons I never put in a pond in my yard.
I live in the tropics, so you don't have to worry about that.
what kind of textile was that used to line the pool?
so pretty😍
could this be done with saltwater and coral to get a nicer color of water?
Does it need to be in an open area? Could I make an organic pool in a fenced backyard? And the last question, what's the smallest size in which an organic pool can be built?
awesome!!!😀👏👏👏
Espectacular
Beautiful. What do you do about parasites and mosquito larva?
you may not get this comment notification but I hope you did some self research on this and find out how this type of or any other pool that is a maintained properly will not attract insects or parasites
One question. Could you put an updated video. Also I'm sure you don't put chlorine because of the 🌱, so what do you do to keep the water clean for swimmers ?
absolutely nothing
Awesome! I think it shall be called a poond...yes, a poond.
its 7 foot deep, that is deeper than a pond which is at most 2 foot deep and this is not large enough in area to be a pond
i really love this, sorry if this is a silly question, but what happens if there is torrential rain, does the pool have a drainage system? x
Larger species of fresh water clams (never use zebra mussels) will filter additional microbes out of the water specifically things like algae. Enough vegetation should limit excessive algae growth through nutrient depletion.
That is not the right environment for clams.
The plants provide oxygen which is what keeps algae at bay, ever seen a pond using those floating fountains? those fountains are helping oxygenate and thus reduce to the point of elimination of algae. The plants are doing the oxygenation and filtration of certain other biologicals that are not harmful to you but to keep it in check.
Kirk Lazarus Nutrients provided by what or whom? You're a dolt! Those plants would die in less than a week, unless you you start filling that nasty swamp with enough fishes to support an ecosystem that doesn't exist in the first place 👌🏻
can you get that black material in blue or white
beautiful.
Se le puede quitar toda esa agua y volver a llenarla ?
En mi picina hay sapos y ranas no se que hacer
Dave - I noticed the airlift doesn't have a 5 foot down-pipe to generate the lift. Is it not required here??
how do you folf the liner in the corners and steps?
and also, salted water is nice,i was swimming in natural salted lake and the salt keep u so u don t need too much effort to swim, but not every plant and fish live in salted water, just think about to use that salt full of natural elements .....anyway what kind of filter do u use,is on the bottom or on the surface?i ask u cose after i dig that hole i covered with plastic foil and i swim for a week, temporary, and after a week was full of spiders, eggs of insects, frogs, etc.and seems like i will might have problems in the future if i don t take this in serious:))
How big a pump do you need to circulate the water?
Oak leaches tannins. Any issues with that ?
