Most children develop the skill of reading by the age of 7. Others however, may be more efficient and start reading easier passages at the age of around 5 or even younger.
This doesn’t imply though that your child is going to keep the head start that he had at the initial ages once he starts to go to the school. By third grade or so, other children would have caught up and this is exactly why it’s important to work on the reading capability of your child in order to keep him up to the mark.
As a parent or a teacher, there are a number of techniques which can be put to use in order to make a child learn to read. Among such techniques, the synthetic phonics and phonemic awareness skills development technique is considered to be the most effective and efficient.
It is of prime importance to understand that before your child is going to be able to read, he has to learn how the sounds in different words work. It is imperative for them to learn that each word is made out of certain sounds which are commonly known as the phonemes. Recognizing these phonemes and separating them from one another is the very fundamental skill that is to be developed in your child in order to make him learn to read.
There is no argument over the fact that phonemic awareness is a widely used term when it comes to learning to read. However, as a teacher or a parent who is looking forward to teach his child to read, it is indispensable for you to be able to understand that phonics and phonemic awareness does not mean the same.
In order to give you a better idea, it is to be mentioned here that phonemic awareness is a term that is used when the fact that certain sounds in spoken language are supposed to work together in order to make the words is being taken into consideration. However, the term phonics only implies that the relationship between a particular sound and the letter which depicts that sound in a written passage is predictable.
It may be of value for you to know that synthetic phonics and phonemic awareness skills development techniques are considered to be the most effective when it comes to question how to teach a child to read. An appropriate utilization of the aforementioned technique is bound to bring the best and the most efficient results for you.

"Jady A" is a homeschooling mom with a free youtube channel. She has many videos on phonetics for toddlers, I used her videos and made note cards for my son. He was reading before age three and it cost no money. Highly recommend her channel.

I am absolutely grateful to my preschool teacher (Miss Dean) because she taught me and my classmates to read through phonemes first. When I was a preschooler, the whole language method was followed until I turned a teenager (I have younger siblings, so I know). I only understood the significance of starting to read using phonemes when I became a teacher myself.
By the way, this content is really awesome! Thanks for sharing this.

I did this with my 3 yr old and 11 month old. In less than a month my 3 yr old learned how to read and my 11 month old knows how to sound out the letters and she’s just learning how to talk. When she learns how to talk she will definitely pick up reading in no time!! This method really works!!!🙌🏼

Children also have to develope the phonetic awareness and be able to actually HEAR the sounds in the word, which is difficult to teach but it takes each child and the pace at which they learn at.

How do you teach letters that come with a different sound in sound in certain words. For example, letter i is taught as 'ee' sound, but i, c and e in the word ice is pronounced as ai and ss not as ee, k, ae sound. So , kids has to read this word as a whole word. Another example is 'a' is taught as 'ae' but it sounds differently if read as an article. a cat, a bag, a car. A in the word car sounds as 'ah'. There are many basic English words that don't follow the phonic sounds. I get confused how to teach. The kids can read the whole word correctly but segment them wrongly.

In india most of the play schools ( 3-4 years) tell kids how to read 3 letters word using phonic and rhythmic. (most of the words having middle letter as vowels). My daughter can read 3 letters rhyme with at/eg/ad like cat/rat/peg/leg/dad/pad etc. She is less than 4.

I taught my son to read when he was 4 going on 5. I am now teaching my 4yr daughter to read. She knows all but maybe 5 letter sounds and I've been working on blending the sounds with her now. I'm glad to know some parents had such an easy time but my daughter is so stubborn and only wants to show me her knowledge when it best suits her and how she is feeling. I'm pretty sure she gets it because the other day she read "mom" and "dad" with no help. Today I tried getting her to read some other simple words and she absolutely refused then started crying. I guess I'm wondering how these other parents get their child in the mood to read and write when they are being so difficult? I'm in my third year going on fourth year of homeschooling with my son and remembering how hard it was with my son makes me dread it with my daughter. I know it's a process it's difficult though and can be like pulling teeth at times. I'd love some feedback on how other mothers make it fun for their child. One thing I have been doing that I noticed helps is by putting on educational videos like alphablocks that actively show repetitive blending in a fun way, now just to get her to sit there and read/write off paper 🤔

I know it sucks, but patience and also small rewards so she feels like she’s progressing . I would also get her a library card and have her pick out 1-2 books that she wants to read per week (small books) and then read aloud switching off with her and continue the process. This is how i learned to love reading because it wasn’t all so informative, but fun and creative. Try it out!

I am an ESL teacher and I have a class of 2 beginner students, they are friends. They started learning with me with alphabet, after 2 years of having classes with them, the other one already levels to reading in a fast pace while the other can hardly recognize the cvc words. It's hard for me to manage the class bc I cannot use different materials since we are group class. I raised this issue to their parents but they don't want to seperate the two students.

And to finish it off I’ll give her a fun dog activity that has to do with reading,,, like make your own bookmark.

A key thing most people miss:
    "POSITIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE..."
Do what you like with your child... Personally I don't press my students or my child to learn anything before they are ready.... If you tie the learning to a positive experience it will give you amazing future results, however if the child feels forced, pressured or threatened to read they will associate reading with negative experience and you can guess how that's going to turn out as they get older.

Intelligent children are distinguished from ordinary children by their great ability to speak and use language clearly, unusual alertness in childhood, and early manipulation of symbol systems, also the ability to think early abstract, and can read often at the age of four, usually these signs of intelligence appear In children at an early age, it is worth noting that these characteristics are not the only indications of whether or not the child has intelligence, for example, Albert Einstein did not speak before the age of four.

This method, which is now widespread, will actually hamper young learners in the long run since most reading people do in a lifetime is silent reading. In silent reading you don't actually focus on phonemes, you go by word shape. It's what speed readers do.

Thank you Chad the Reading Teacher. For making it clear that we have sentences, then word that were built from phonics. At TIN using our Reading Implementation Compass Approach-RICA we call that organic reading. Reading that grows organically.

There are a few things for how to learn to read
Decide exactly why you wish to learn
Decide what method works for you the best.
(I learned about these and more from Pronto learner compendium website )

My hubby is very proud of his son’s reading abilities and he`s sharing his story to everyone. We train our son how to read with the aid of this phenomenal reading guideline ChildrenLearningReading5.blogspot.in . Previously, we are the ones reading him stories before he goes to get to sleep. But now, he`s the one reading his own books in front of us.

As a teacher ,,the basic way on reading is to learn first in sounds to be able to blend constructing a word.

You are right. But sight reading is the method which helps the child to read from birth to 2 years old. After that we can start phonemes. It's true we can teach a child to read in a very young age.
