I appreciate how much time you put into describing the details on ride comfort. In real life, that really affects us on the daily driving. We're not all looking for the stiffest sportiest ride possible as that's not practical day to day...thanks a lot
Especially on sub standard Australian roads, we are interested in softer ride. Merc Australia is pushing everyone to buy AMG package (with stiffer suspensions) with no option to buy adaptive dampers on these roads. My back hurts just thinking about it 😂 UPDATE: 5 MAY 2022 I am pleased to report that car ride is very comfortable. I took it on the sub-standard roads of HILLS DISTRICT NSW especially Memorial Av. which is under construction. After first bump car softened immediately. What a wonderful smooth quite ride it was - compared to horrible W205 stiff ride. It is coming with "AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective damping system and vehicle lowering". It automatically dampen ride based on conditions
I own a w205 c63s and have sat in one of these. Personally, I find the huge screen cheapens the feel of the car and makes it appear even more gimmicky. The styling is alright, but it lacks the sharpness of the previous version. I do like this new blue color.
My facelift C63s annoyed me with regard to the lack of a touch screen, trying to use CarPlay was painful. The infotainment often had bugs (would completely shut down with blank screen) and the creaking dash and failed steering wheel adjuster added to the lack of interior enjoyment. It also had a rattly exhaust valve early on. The ESC intervention was terribly aggressive even in the most sporting/pro modes. I suspect there remains an ongoing bug in this department as early on the ESC modes (not driver modes such as S, S+ Race) wouldn't even display correctly (software update fixed this). The HSVs I have owned had much better tuning that allowed some oversteer before more progressive intervention. Not sure how AMG got that so wrong. Launch control was also truly hopeless. Faster launches without it.
@@CorvusHyperion Sorry to hear about the issues with your car. The infotainment on the facelift is pretty old despite the updated graphics and is laggy. I haven't had any other issues that you mentioned. Launch control was locked for me until after I reached the number of km's needed for breakin.
I agree with your review. My last Mercedes was a W204 C250 wagon, yes with a star on the bonnet. Sad to see the wagon has now been dropped, we don't all want SUV's!
Yup I just moved over myself. Had been leasing different mercedes for the past 10 years. I just picked up a bmw 3 series m sport and I will never look back. The ride quality is on a different level and the interior is high quality. Check out bmw if you wanna get out of mercedes
I’m sorry but all these modern Mercedes are way to aggressive looking for me. I want an old fashioned style elegance trim with a proper 3 pointed start hood ornament. The W204 was the last decent car Mercedes made. Everything from then on has never hit the mark.
Exactly. I prefer the luxury trim Benz models over the sport ones. If I want aggressive I'll snap up an AMG but until then just the classic Benz. The W212 E Class with the luxury trim were brilliant in terms of ride comfort. It was soft enough to be comfortable but stable at higher speeds.
@@danielpark6031 Those multispoke wheels aren’t the nicest things but there are other wheel choices that make the luxury W205 look great (subjectively of course)
@@muhamadaiman8683 build quality bro…no. W206 is as solid as it could possibly be. The difference is that bmw designs their interiors with no/minimal trims on the doors or center console which leaves the interior covered in leather or soft plastic. Of course those materials wont ”creak”. Any cheap car wont creak either because the materials and interior trims, they purely consist of soft foam and fabric or leather, no wood or plastic trims or intricate designs.
The W204 chassis is my favorite c-class as well. I would have one if it wasn't for the typical uncomfortable Mercedes seats. The squib is way too firm and the backrest never stops digging into my lower back.
💯 agree, I have a 204 real leather, and super uncomfortable. This is the only issue with my 204, it’s a wagon with the amg kit, love it, but hate the seats.
The new MB interior looks amazing but the way how it drives is similar to W205. Price has increased to 100k+ for c300 and ~90k for c200, which is over 20k compared to w205. MB has introduced this fix price model so we are no longer able to negotiate. There are many alternative to choose from if I intend to spend 90k-100k on the basic c200.
@@billybob1511 only reliability issues can result in huge depreciation, so it wouldn't be a great deal to buy a problematic model out of the warranty Happened to me on a 2016 Jaguar XE, buying only new/in-warranty since then
I'm new to the Merc family (got a CLA45s late last year) and I think this will be the first and last Merc I will ever purchase. Even before the fixed pricing model (which is just so blatant anti consumer behaviour leveraging their market power) the value for money equation was already thin, now it just tips it way over the edge. I'm sure there are people who are willing to pay the price to drive a Merc, and there is nothing wrong with that if that is what you want and you're willing to pay for it, but for me the car you get just really isn't what you're paying for. Although to Merc's credit, they have 5 year warranty while BMW is still 3. I think Audi recently changed to 5 year as well in 2022. My 2 cents
I had the A45 with the new interior MBUX and had so many issues with it that within 2 years they bought it back. I considered the C class but with 6 months of delays and knowing by the time they arrived into AUS I would have to buy under fixed price, I ended up buying a fully speced BMW 3 series. They are losing customers from this and they dont offer any value proposition. Also when a problem arose with the car (GOING INTO NEUTRAL ON THE FREEWAY) and the battery constantly going flat if not driven daily and the window and sun roof squeaking and the passenger airbag having constant faults their way of dealing with it was very very disappointing, even more so I had bought my mum a fully speced GLC300.. so it wasn't like I wasn't a good customer. 2 cars bought in under two years and was sorely disappointed. Put me off them forever. Not to mention the BMW has more power, is faster, a bigger car and uses HALF the petrol so go figure?
@@lukiejames Wow, that really is a bummer. I'm thinking of off loading mine in about 3 years time, then hoping to pick up a M340i or M440i. Hopefully by then BMW will have 5 year warranty as well since both Audi and Merc has that now. Mind boggling that the I6 3,0L B58 engine is more efficient than the I4 2.0L M139... Sure the M139 puts out more power but the B58 has 2 extra cylinders + 1L more displacement...
@@jessh2147 I will say, I did feel special when I drove the Mercedes in the sense that it had simple things that made life easy. I loved the touchpad for controlling the system. I loved the gear selector being up by the steering wheel. Little things that I just came to love. I didn't love so much changing the brake pads after only a year and a half nor the tyres but then I also didn't just move around slowly. I averaged 12.0L/100 constantly and the lowest I saw around town trying to be economical was 9.3. When I drove from Sydney to Melbourne I did manage 6.0L but even so for a small car that is not ground breaking. My issue was if I tried to use eco mode, it would just be going along and then randomly it would go into neutral. When we told MB they said oh yes we know of that issue in Europe, dont use eco mode and we will find a fix. 1 year later, of being led on they told us after the diesel scandal that they can't legally update the software to fix the issue by law and that we would need to just not use the eco mode. Now I never used eco mode but my partner liked to use it so it was kind of annoying. I had 7 loan cars from Mercedes over ownership and the C class didn't have speakers in the doors only the small ones and then on top of the dash was a speaker and I thought the sound system was absolutely appalling. Especially after having an Audi with an AWESOME sound system. However I will say the Burmester in the GLC is fantastic. Probably my only other complaint about the MB was the suspension was so firm and if you didn't drive over every bump at snail speed you would all but take the front off. The Audi have a much softer suspension having owned one. Thats my mums only complaint with her GLC, the suspension is so firm you literally hit your head on the roof on speed bumps. The BMW we have now has I believe active or adaptive suspension?? It is softer but still not as soft as the Audi was. The brakes BMW use are not nearly as grabby or reassuring as the MB. If you do some test drives you'll pick up on those things. You'll also soon notice the ridiculously fat steering wheel. Its so chunky. When I first got the BMW I wasn't in love with it like I had with the MB but its grown on me with time. Everything seems to work very well and is right where it needs to be and it seems built well. The BMW quirks I had to get used to is the gear shifter is a bit fiddly, I also noticed in the rain the back will slide unlike the 4matic in the MB which I had to get used to, especially in a Westfield on concrete finish. The gearbox doesn't jolt you around because its not the dual clutch setup which I like etc. Both have their plus and minus points but I think the BMW is nice, we bought it in that vibrant blue colour they do and its very striking.
@@jessh2147 under Australian law they have to provide a warranty for a reasonable time. They just don’t add the 5 years into the price. A car is meant to last longer than three years so they will have to cover you.
I keep telling people how unreliable they are! Why the hell would you want a car with shitty warranty, reliability issues and it costs STUPID amounts to service and repair. It’s just plain stupid. Sure if you don’t care about money then go ahead, but even then if you did you could do so much better with it. I stick with Kia and Hyundai and thats not me saying there aren’t other good brands, but 7 year and 5 year warranty plus their reliability is so good why would you do anything else
Went from a W204 to a W205, and just when warranty expired I converted to the G20 3 Series. I personally think the W205 is light years ahead of the the W204 in terms of technology and driving dynamics. I think there's some bias with the love for the W204.
I really enjoyed my 204 FL, it was a great car. Every time I sat in a 205 I just couldn't deal with that centre console. At the time people were totally loving the design of the interior, but for me, no. I am looking for the 206 chassis to appear in coupe whether that is under the C or another nomenclature. The ZF 8 speed in the 330i and that was also in the 230i was TC Auto perfection and when you said it was snappy and knows what to do, I thought you were spot on. It's intuitive when you put your foot down. The pricing model is ludicrous. I don't mind that it's a fixed price model, it's just that the fixed price is too high for what you could also have got a W213 E 200 for. The fixed price model is also not like Honda where Honda has nation wide pricing that is standard at the drive away level, whereas MB has a standard price before ORC so there is slight differences per State. If Mercedes wants to do standard pricing, you would think they would publish the price and what it is. When you go on to their site and you want to check the price, it just takes you to the cars that are in stock, you can't build one and it gives you a price, which is stupid. You have to "make an enquiry" and send it off and then someone contacts you with the price. You think it would be just in the spec guide.
Hi! I own a w205 with air suspension and that in my opinion does provide a nice comfortable drive and excellent handling, almost sports car like when in sports plus mode, yes, love it. Looking forward though to having a drive in the w 206.
So they've taken away the tacked on "ipad" screen from the centre console, only to add a tacked on elongated rectangular screen to display the speedometer & tachometer. There should be a proper instrument binnacle. Most are designed to provide some shade over the instruments. Apart from this the rest of the interior & exterior is good looking.
Form over function, as is the trend these days. for decades, we had instrument binacles with the top "roof" to cover the instruments from Sun and glare. Now we have done away with that to give it a more modern feel at the expense of practicality. Imagine trying to look at your speedo with a full afternoon sun on them. its dumb...
@@riaadhoosain It's never been an issue for me in my A Class, and I've never heard of it being an issue for anyone else (lots of other things get complained about). You get more sun glare from the steering wheel than from the instruments display.

@@peterhammer4644 I am talking about the interior of Merc compared to the interior of BMW. I find BMW interior soooooo much outdated. I totally agree that BMW have better engines and sporty drive (especially in M series). But just the outdated interior make me run away from them. There are rumours that BMW will update its interior (believe me it is desperately needed) in fall 2022 models for 3 series. I will wait for that to make my decision. I hate that Merc Australia is forcing everyone to buy AMG models with no option for luxury package & adaptive dampers.
@@juliav8939 I agree that apart from pure M-models BMW needs an interior update. But I like even less the big i-pad in Mercs. Its much to much Tesla alike for my taste.
Totally against the fixed price strategy, they are basically going the middle finger to their customers. I have a W204 C220 cdi and a W205 C250 Blutec and love my diesels, great torque and very low fuel consumption. Can’t understand why MB have released the W206 diesel models in Europe but not in Australia. Will the diesel models be released in Aus later? Don’t like the large screen, seems unsafe trying to make adjustments on a touch screen while driving, same as using a phone! The 48 volt system is just another expensive thing that will need replacing at some stage. Would be interested what the 48v battery replacement cost is. Other than that the car looks good but my next new car may be a diesel BMW or some other diesel make.
Just stopped the video in the first 10 seconds to comment the production quality. Your shots are well thought, beautiful white balance and color grading , nice composition… you can tell the videographer was having fun 😉… ok now let me go watch the actual intent of the video 🤣
I really enjoy watching your videos. Do you think the 'iPad' is safe to use while driving? I feel that touch screen infotainment system isn't safe, how is that different to looking at mobile phone? I prefer the rotary dial used by BMW or Mazda. Keen to hear your opinion.
Rather ordinary styling for this W206 and that interior is just so chintzy. Big price increases and no discounting will see many sales go to the opposition. See the latest February sales figures and Mercedes have dropped by more than half across the whole range. Is this a backlash to fixed pricing? I’ll stick with my 330i.
@@CorvusHyperion you know that? Why haven’t other manufacturers been affected by the same degree? Have a good look at the stats and every Benz model had a decrease in sales compared to January 2022. My wife and I have had 17 BMW’s and we currently have the M340i and the current C43 - we prefer the C43 and plan to get this version in the 408hp C43 - gorgeous cars.
MB are superior to BMWs overall …. Such high quality cars engineering, interior and mechanically. BMWs have 3 cars in top 10 most unreliable cars while MB have only one and not a common model .. I am a mechanic and engineer for 50 years .. As for Audis .. they easily go down below BMWs ..
The intro ad prior to this review was MB assuring me of their great and new pricing model of RRP and no price haggle. haha......I'll be keen to see if it affects their sales versus someone haggling on price at their local BMW or Audi Dealer.

Hi, until four years ago we drove from new a BMW318d estate, since then we have a MB C220d estate, I can not understand why you prefer the BMW. The ride of the MB is so much better, the build quality is so much better, our BMW motor suddenly blew up at 250K kilometers, broken timing chain(that should be impossible to occur). BMW said we had to pay €15000,00 for a new engine. This illustrates the bad quality and bad customer support BMW practices in the real world, and not when they serve "journalists" Our MB has now reached more than 300K kilometers without any problem and we ordered a new C300e plug-in hybrid estate. In the past we have driven from new Peugeot 506, Saab 9-5, Alfa Romeo 156, Non of them even comes close to the MB.
For the sedans, i never liked the W205 and now this, but I'd much rather go with the 205. These days, its so easy to take a glance and mistaken it for a CLA or A class. I do however, love the W205 coupe
Great review. No wagon or lift-back option is a shame - that would steer me towards an Audi S4 Avant or S5 Sportback or a BMW M440 Gran Coupe. I don't particularly like the new interior - the tacked on screen in front of the driver looks pretty ordinary and the massive centre screen looks a bit Tesla-esk and out of place, but I am sure that would grow on me.
Such a shame that wagons are disappearing. Understood that they don’t sell in numbers, but what is the incremental effort from the importer to offer a wagon? Is there much of an ADR impost? Printing a few extra brochures?
Have to agree with your great review. Starting at the cost; it's actually insane what the want for it, and the lack of transparency is annoying. Yes in the US they have window stickers. Tells you what this cost, what that costs. It allows people to make ammuch better decision. Online with MB you can't build and get a price, why? And all the ones the have for sale are priced all differently, and I don't mean in groups, but you won't find two the same price, ever. Again why? What is MB hiding and why? The "chip shortage" s a great tool to mark up cars prices and then if things return to normal, the missing "chips" will reappear vastly marked up more than ever. This car I'm sure is much better than the W205 whose quality was not befitting the three pointed star. It felt like it was put together by kids with just some school glue. Their choices have an obvious agenda......buy their EV version. Soon prices will be equal and they are quietly pushing you to get the EV over the ICE ones. A era has ended, sadly. I'll stick with my G20 330i for the time being, even though this looks like a much better competitor, the little things that MB is doing is too sneaky for my blood. Fixed prices, lack of features due to a continuing chip shortage (if you actually believe that), and pricing their models 15% above the better competition. The car isn't that much better to justify the cost, or fixed cost for that matter. Don't think we will ever be buying a new MB in the future, and probably will not change our minds. And a C63 with a 4cyl, sorry, it's a hard pass. And an FYI, our age demographics cover Gen X to Gen Z.....so not sure where MB is placing this new C at on the marketing range either...
If you do your research you will find that BMW currently doesn't have a touch screen, adaptive cruise control, M sport package plus more. Not just Mercedes that has shortages. Hi Tom, a very nice review. Nothing you reported on has convinced me to switch the Skoda Octavia Limited Edition I have on order in. Lava Blue. Firstly, its a wagon! Has drive modes to get it handling to my specs and cost 10s of thousands less that the C300 on test. It was ordered before de-specking cars had to occur as you have reported so comes with a 12 speaker high end Canton system and all safety specs. Maybe a comparison is on the cards. Thanks once more, Lloyd.
Great video!! If you work on the colour correction in your video it would be great. Looks a bit dull in few shots. B rolls are good. Try to use the same colour correction to the rest of the shots.
I've owned a W204 C200 and I currently own a 2017 W205 C250 Firstly the W205 looks very dated as an interior now, the W205 still looks modern... Ill be honest after 4 years I've failed to hear creaks in my black ash dash trim or interior and the ride quality I have never had an issue with I drove from Townsville to Sydney and it drove like a charm I'm no car tester but as an owner of both I could not disagree more
The review could have been stronger on the fixed price model. Acknowledging that it is an issue doesn't really explain your position on it. Should it at least be a consideration for people to look at competitors in this segment, or is the C class better than all its price negotiable rivals?
It’s not up to us to tell you how to think about pricing models. We present the information and you decide. As for comparisons - well, they need to be done properly and back to back. I mentioned that I didn’t think the W206 C300 dethroned the 330i as my personal segment leader in the video, though.
I always say, it looks good when it is driven by someone else. But when I think of driving it, I look at the price tags and have a mini migraine. For those who don't understand, I am based in South Africa, and the prices are out of control
What are you talking about "tacked on iPad effect" of the previous version; now you have a gauge cluster that clearly looks 'tacked on' and the centre screen looks even more like an iPad. There is not even a hood around the gauge cluster.
Recent MB styling upgrades (external) on both CLA and now this make them less distinctive I feel....rear lights made me think 'Audi' for a minute. A have a 2020 330i and like that it HAS the large double screens, but the driver display is still 'binnacle' style and the infotainment screen is widescreen landscape instead of the 'Tesla-esque' vertical. No doubt these new C's will be great cars however. And weird to think that because of chip shortages my 2 year old car has more kit in it than a brand new version!
So many negative comments and of course it’s all preference but couldn’t disagree more with almost every negative comment here. I think people love to be critics but in the end this will sell incredibly well and having owned almost all BMW’s and almost all MB’s, both marques are fantastic but I prefer the more expensive look of the Benz.
Just upgraded from a 204 300 to an e400 coupe. I was not excited to see the lack of features on the 206 c class (ex. multicontour seats, vented seats, high end burmester). Because the new A class is so good, I feel like they should have really uplifted the c class. Even if it is much improved, I feel like its a missed opportunity.

I’ve decided against buying Merceds Benz going forward. I don’t wish to support a ‘Price Fixing’ gouge. We already pay too much for vehicles in Australia. As per Mercedes Benz marketing, they have “already done the negotiating for you” - and happily got me the HIGHEST POSSIBLE PRICE.
I have a 2015 CLA250 shooting brake, I looked at the W205 C300 wagon and I test drove about 4 and all of them had squeaks and didn’t drive as well as the CLA250, now that MB have dropped wagons they won’t be on my list moving forward
When I tried that at the dealer all it did was push the phone holder back into the armrest. Seems like a bad design (not sure why you would ever need a phone holder pointing at the rear middle seat).
Even if this car is that much better compare to the W205, i cant help but think that, they really went downhill in design, they looks like their playing save, and take a stepback in design, with more confusing line, and less differentiation between each class
Perhaps we need to change the standard of what "fuel efficient" means. 7/10 car reviews I watch have somewhat of the statement "not very fuel efficient" ...

I like how you describe the merits of the 1.5L engine and not try to up-sell the C300 to viewers like every other C-class 2021 review out there. Do you think c300 is more for the autobahn (ie European conditions), rather than Australian conditions where speed is capped at 110. Also it sounds like that you feel that the chassis is more suited to the 1.5L smaller than the 2.0L?
Thank you for mentioning the engine layout many reviews dont even talk about it ..may they don't even know ... All they say is it's AWD ...c is the proper base Mercedes b and a are just fwd craps
honestly the ride could feel better but the 3rd and 4th generations bodies look better, they look more aggressive. this new gen that made the body look fat if that makes sense and also made it look less aggressive
For me personally this looks amazing ... Looks premium and isn't pretending to look something else as was the case with the previous generation which looked ridiculous ... I kinda like it better then the new base 3 series ... I shouldn't always cry about this but miss those days when all Mercs looked unique and had a manual ..not to mention 2008-12 C300.. That colour and larger multi spoke wheels combo makes it look good, but I still think that headlight design of the previous version was better.

Good review … Not happy with fixed price model as a current Mercedes’ owner I will be looking elsewhere when time to upgrade.

Man, they really cheaped out on that interior. Interior quality of my dads 3 series (luxury line) is amazing
Short answer, yes. C300 interior looks way better to me compared to a similarly priced 3 series.
looks yes, build quality no .
Wow glad I’m not the only one, the seats were insane
💯 agree, I have a 204 real leather, and super uncomfortable. This is the only issue with my 204, it’s a wagon with the amg kit, love it, but hate the seats.
Solved that issue by putting some foam padding on the seat and then good quality sheepskin seat covers on top. Interior is quieter too.
@@stefcep lol, for a car that cost almost AU$100K, i should expect better than putting cheap padding on.

Hopefully some huge depreciation for used buyers :-)
Are you saying they won’t negotiate on price?
@@krugmeup2162 yes. Similar to Honda sale model. You either accept the price or you walk away. Every dealership will offer the same price.
Yes and MB's sales have tanked. BY 55%. Lowest in 10 years.
@@billybob1511 only reliability issues can result in huge depreciation, so it wouldn't be a great deal to buy a problematic model out of the warranty
Happened to me on a 2016 Jaguar XE, buying only new/in-warranty since then
I'm new to the Merc family (got a CLA45s late last year) and I think this will be the first and last Merc I will ever purchase.

Nah but the facelifted w204 (2012-2014) still my fave

Form over function, as is the trend these days. for decades, we had instrument binacles with the top "roof" to cover the instruments from Sun and glare. I have a W204 C220 cdi and a W205 C250 Blutec and love my diesels, great torque and very low fuel consumption. Can’t understand why MB have released the W206 diesel models in Europe but not in Australia. Will the diesel models be released in Aus later? Rather ordinary styling for this W206 and that interior is just so chintzy. Big price increases and no discounting will see many sales go to the opposition.
Why not compare to a Mazda 3? Is it worth double the money for a German sedan?
Mazda 3 is a different category.
So you can't feel the ground like the w205 c class which I have now ?
There are actually w206 wagons
I agree, the centre screen looks cheap. I really don't understand by they went this direction.

It looks nicer than BMW, but the interior quality and pricing for standard equipment is much worse
C class/ The best things you can get. my brother has W201. I have had W202 and now i have W203 ( and W211 ) long live C class
The interior is AMAZING...🥵🔥
Really? That's the part I was thinking ....not so much.
Lazy design. Slapping flat screens every where.
horrible interior
Great review Tom. Miss a wagon.
Perhaps we need to change the standard of what "fuel efficient" means. 7/10 car reviews I watch have somewhat of the statement "not very fuel efficient" ...
I am interested in the c class and the new e class plug in hybrids coming to australia.
This or the new cla? I like long screens
Good review Tom.👍
Yes I agree with this guy I own a 2016 W205 and the ride is stiff I can feel every little bump and imperfection on the road I think I can even feel the paint markings of the dividers on the road😂I’m exaggerating on the last part but you know what I mean it’s Stiff the ride.
How much does this cost ?
Thank for your review.
Compare the suspension set-up with the giulia please!
Yes Thank God I will buy one for myself
Nice watch! Omega Seamaster 300M I believe!
Loved this review!
Thank you!
Great review Tom!
Thanks!
Hey, great review👍
For me personally this looks amazing ... Looks premium and isn't pretending to look something else as was the case with the previous generation which looked ridiculous ... I kinda like it better then the new base 3 series ...
I shouldn't always cry about this but miss those days when all Mercs looked unique and had a manual ..not to mention 2008-12 C300..
Omission of the straight 6 for the Amg is idk ...crap
