That one hour flew by quickly. Totally digging his vibe, he's not pretensious, this was a nice sitdown. Really great to see how much he has assimilated himself into the Ugandan culture and how much he loves it there with his "Lupita" and kids. He is a great example of a white man demystifying long, wrong held beliefs of what it means to be and live in Africa. All the best to him and his family.

By the way, in Zimbabwe white people were referred to as Murungu long time ago which seems equivalent to Mzungu in Uganda. It was not derogatory but used to identify Europeans i.e white people similar to how when people around the world may say "Chinese" when they see an Asian. His story about the pen pal friend resonated with me. I had a pen pal but lost touch in our teens. Later come to college in the US and never remembered her last name. Would have been nice to meet her. All good though.

Fort Jesus was basically a holding house for our Kenyan and African people to be shipped into slavery in the USA, Brazil, Europe, Caribbean and other European countries. The problem is that our education system in Kenya was pacified by England in favour of their culture, history, language and traditions. We must change the Kenyan education system to be African centered so people like yourself and others who are not Kalejins understand how Kipkirui or Kipkoech gets to be Kirui or Koech when one becomes an adult in your culture. Everytime I go by Fort Jesus I feel like burning the building down and chasing the Portuguese out of Kenya and their catholicism. "Salamu kutoka papa hapa jijini New York Marekani."

When marriages don't work, the parents return the monetary equivalent to the groom ( at least that happens in my culture). He probably gave bride price. But looking at you Britney you could go to the most dangerous part of Kenya and still no one would tell you aren't a local and even with your accent still alot of Kenyan young people have the American accent btw mostly from studying in international schools. So I somewhat feel you like using isolated cases to make very general statements that clearly don't even make any sense... I have two A.A I hosted back in 2019 in Kiambu road for over 6 months and none had any issues integrating with the locals, I think what you need to do is maybe get out of that Expat bubble and get some local friends because if you are hanging out around whites or Indians then someone might have called you a MZUNGU to mean an Uncle Tom.

He probably gave bride price. He seems like a person that would respect his wife's culture . And her parents probably gave him a less expensive dowry because of his sponsorship all those years.

It was all well until you said "They call me MZUNGU" Really? Referring to what exactly? Or in what context? In Kenya the name MZUNGU clearly means a white person unless it's a nickname in which case it would mean an Uncle Tom. But looking at you Britney you could go to the most dangerous part of Kenya and still no one would tell you aren't a local and even with your accent still alot of Kenyan young people have the American accent btw mostly from studying in international schools. So I somewhat feel you like using isolated cases to make very general statements that clearly don't even make any sense... That point was noticeable because it would mean African Americans are considered Whites in Kenya?? I have two A.A I hosted back in 2019 in Kiambu road for over 6 months and none had any issues integrating with the locals, I think what you need to do is maybe get out of that Expat bubble and get some local friends because if you are hanging out around whites or Indians then someone might have called you a MZUNGU to mean an Uncle Tom.
