Two years ago I spent all the money I had , and I thankfully , graciously was given the opportunity to be gifted with the same culinary gifts that only experience can explain. Just to raise awareness, I went to the exact seafood stall that Mike passed thru in 13:51 last week, and I had the 389 baht plate as I jz had the pork rib mountain and i was pretty full. Worst experience ever! The seafood was no where fresh , the clamps could not be opened, and the prawns were not as big and as fresh as the plate portrayed. I ate that on the first day and it caused my stomach to b fucked throughout the whole trip! Not to mention that when i paid 400 baht to the worker, they refused to return the change and insisted that it was a tip for them. Srsly don get baited by the crowd like me. Jz go for the pork rib mountain near the seafood stall, it was superb and worth the price!
one tips for anyone, seafood in the tourist spot or market like this are not at good quality. If you happen to go to nearby province such as Samut Prakarn or Rayong then absolutely YES!!! it fresh and we could go to heaven just by eating one and it cheaper than city tourist spot too! my family love the fish over there sometime we drive to those province and looking for a fresh catch fish for a very bargain price.
Go where the locals go to. My friends and I found a wonderful little restaurant with a good delicious food to price ratio in the center of prague just by avoiding the tourist attractions and exploring the little streets.
My dad actually got us a xtra large when we went to Bangkok, and we couldn’t finish it. There was 5 of us! Oh and also we had a lot of random people taking pictures of the MEAT MOUNTAIN!

I’ve been going to Thailand since the 80s (married to a Thai). Somehow I missed the Rod Fai market until the last trip in 2018. It will be a standard stop on all trips going forward. Some interesting shops/vendors, and of course the food.

I've only recently decided to re-watch the last pork-rib chilli video. There's so much to love about that fish - fatty meat, sour and spicy soup... Videos like only reignite my love of thai food!
I have some packages of ribs in the freezer, and I think I’ll have to get them thawing!! Mine are going to be simmered all afternoon in the oven with onions, bacon and fresh sauerkraut. Homemade chunky applesauce and mashed potatoes on the side....oh yum! Mikey, If you’re in Maryland 11/4, come on by and eat with us!

Who else thinks the spicy meat mountain kind of looks like an actual mountain, with the meat being the rocks and the chilis being the trees and bushes? ⛰
the crispy noodle dish you describe, popularized by King Rama V is known as "mee krob" in the west. In the early 1980s, every Thai restaurant in the US had mee krob on the menu and every farang ordered it like it was the best dish on earth. Nowadays mee krob does not appear on the menu at all and I doubt anybody remembers it. I had it a couple of times, did not love it b/c I'm not into fried and sweet which is what this dish is, fried rice vermicelli noodles with a sweet syrup glaze.
I loved how people came rushing to get pictures and to look at that meat mountain (with the chili and meat lake 😍 😋 😎) when they delivered it to your table Mike! LOL!! The Thai people are absolutely wonderful.
