I enjoyed this talk. I wish I had realized it was up on UA-cam. I watched the GoToWebinar replay that doesn't allow you to pause or rewind. Gary, I notice that you seem to have a system that you're using with the colored highlighting of your approach plates as you brief them. Do you have a video anywhere that explains what you're doing?
@@HiTechRob it’s not just the history. FF can build a somewhat reasonable route between any airport pair even if it didn’t have any prior clearances. it uses constraints and intermediate fixes that you can specify. this autorouting requires the highest tier subscription.
FWIW there was a recent discussion in the ATC subreddit about including an IAP in the filed route and this idea got an overwhelmingly negative reaction from the controllers.
I think that discussion was about filing to the IAF *instead of* the the destination. I think Gary is suggesting simply to include the IAF as part of the route.
@@benjaminpohl well the top comment was "It's dumb. Just file to an airport. It's one of those many things that someone thought of years ago and it has been passed around as fact. You're most likely going to get cleared direct to the airport anyways. Also, I'm assuming you didn't mean to say you're going to file an IAF as your destination. That is doubly dumb."
i have no clue what are you talking about, but i enjoy listening.. i wish i had the brains to go for an IFR training. :)

Foreflight "Route Advisor" should be renamed "Route History" in my opinion.

@@LTVoyager because you are committing yourself to a specific approach before you even takeoff. this is not a good ADM.
@@asho1735 A flight plan is a plan, not a commitment. If you file to an airport, does that mean you are committed to that airport?
