  • Dumble amps were made famous by artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Larry Carlton, Santana, and John Mayer to name a few. But if you listen closely, you can hear the legendary amplifiers on some of your favorite pop hits from the 70’s onward.
    Today, I’m showing you 5 songs that you (probably) didn’t know used a Dumble amplifier! Additionally, I’m having my good friend Tim Marco recreate each tone using a Deluxe Reverb and an Ultraphonix Overdrive with a touch of Delay from the Source Audio Collider.
    If you know of a song that used a Dumble that we didn’t mention, let us know in the comments below!

      Apparently 'Owner of a lonely heart' by Yes was a heavily processed Dumble ODS.
      Also, unconfirmed, but I had heard that the 'Beat It' solo for Michael Jackson was an ODS, but this is fairly disputed.

    RIP Dr D , not all of us where lucky enough to own a dumble , i see more and more dumble in a box pedals - which i think is good , i like pedals. i wonder what he would have said about that , all the harmonix , are they truly able to thrive in the crystal lattuce of a solid state pedal design ? i wonder in a parallel universe , if Dr D made pedals instead , what those would be , i am guessing a tin hat 741 op amp with a pair of red 3mm clippers and a low end shaping control instead of a "tone", but all of that is silly . thanks for the videos , really enjoyable content here . i recently heard henry kaiser tell this great story about meeting the Doctor who was riding a moped at the time , man i wish i could have been a fly on that wall .

    Perhaps you know, but Andy Brauer was the first Dumble dealer. I suspect that Luke also rented a Dumble from him (like Robben did) for the Boz sessions. Luke was a long time cartage client of Andy’s.
    Chris Johnson and I bought Andy out in 2005, and called the new company Hollywood Studio Rentals. Chris bought me out in 2013 and I retired to Hawaii.

    • @VertexEffectsInc
      @VertexEffectsInc  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, I'm aware that he "broke" Dumble to a lot of the LA scene but my understanding was that he was renting them out more than being a "dealer". I think you were still beholden to Dumble's approval and audition if you wanted one. I think the studio rented the amp, not sure if Luke requested it or not - I know that Bill Schnee (producer/engineer) was also a great musician and worked a lot of with Carlton and other Dumble guys and might have requested it for the session because he wanted that sound for the record.

    Thanks for make the video. I think Jimmie Vaughan used a Dumble on a few songs with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. But I would really prefer if Vertex made a Super Reverb pedal that sounded very glassy because this is what SRV and Jimmie Vaughan used was Super Reverb amps with Ceramic Magnet Speakers. For some reason the Super Reverb amp is more glassy compared to other fender amps. I would try using the Vertex Dumble pedal and bypass the fender amps front end preamp and go direct into the Super Reverb effects return or Putting the Vertex Dumble pedal in the Super Reverbs effects loop to blend in the dumble clean overtones to mix with the fender super reverb preamp amp. What I do is put a compression side chain EQ pedal in the effect loop which sounds very dumble to me with my fender amp because its adding compression and side chain the EQ with the compression as well as I use the strats Middle pickup and roll down the volume back and it gives that Texas Flood midrange and Jimmie Vaughan tones

    Hahahahaha..... The results of a desperate attempt to put Dumble up there with Rivera. Tell you what...why don't you go and make a list of 'all' the classic top ten hits that featured a Rivera modded Fender amp and then ask yourself why you still think that the Emperor is wearing clothes!
    Go and do the same with Mesa Boogie...and then Marshall and Vox, and Fender........... We all know you have something to sell.. Only you don't realise that it is yesterday's news! The great big old Dumble boat sailed off into the sunset over a decade ago!

    • @VertexEffectsInc
      @VertexEffectsInc  3 роки тому +3

      Where's the desperation? I don't have a dog in the fight - I don't make amps. Nothing in this video is an indictment of Rivera or his amplifiers so I'm not sure how you landed on this idea from the video. If you took any time to look at this channel you can see that we've interviewed Paul Rivera Sr. multiple times and have mega respect for him and his contribution to the pedalboard scene and amplifiers with the Stage II Fender Mods and beyond. In fact, his new Stage IV amp is going to be part of a new video called "The Most Famous Amp You've Never Heard Of" that goes through some of the big hits that used a Rivera modded Fender amp like Michael Jackson, Toto, and more. Dumble may be irrelevant for you, but not our industry generally and pedals and amps modeled after the tones and circuit do very well with many brands. This may not be your preference, but has nothing to do with any commentary on Rivera, Boogie, or otherwise - both can be great sounding amps and used on classic hits and records at the same time - one doesn't disqualify the other.
