This combination of pre and power amps sounds unbeliveble, best Dumble documented this far on your channel. But forget the gear, Gabe nailed EJ songs with a week of practice, pure talent!
Great video Mason! I've found that in order to get a very similar sound to Eric's lead tone, the Dynamic Distortion that you make is amazing, it even sounds more refined than the Tube Driver. With the level at 9 o'clock, tone all the way down and gain at 10 o clock into a Marshall that is about to break up sounds amazing!
It's probably been returned by now, but if you still have it I would be really interested in seeing how the preamp sounds without running through the reverb and power amp. Maybe running it into some IR cabs, or even into a lower wattage power amp. I mean this thing sounds SO close to Eric Johnson that it casts shade on the "90% tone is in the fingers," line. I buil and repair amps. I always raise the point at to just how significant that 10% can be. I've built several Dumble clones, mostly ODSs but a few SSS and modified SSSs. None sounded like that, i would be willing to sell off half my gear just to get access to an accurate schematic for that preamp.
There is a lot going on here that us video viewers cannot fully appreciate without actually playing it or being in the room. But, you do have to be tone deaf not to hear the VERY unique quality the quality of this set up. It wreaks of EJ recorded tone - Especially from the Tones album. Also, if you have ever seen him in the early 90's in a very small venue (ie. The Cubby Bear in Chicago) you may appreciate what you are hearing here more. I get what they are saying about not having to tweak the amp for it to sound incredible. I love all the nay sayer comments here - Something as rare as this is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. And, my guess is that there are some folks willing to pay close to what is being asked, maybe not quite 400k but perhaps $350k. Time will tell. Super nice video. The chorus sound was off though...
Best sound I have ever heard. I love the way the low end is very controlled without sounding thin. Perfect midrange that is prominent yet still rounded. This will be the next path on my tone search. Can't afford this rig right now though:) Thanks for a great video, and great playing examples!
Sound great. $400,000 great? C'mon... But if you have that money for an amp, you don't have a money problem in your world. It's funny that it's also $1,000 for shipping, hahaha! Nice video, per usual...
@@godbyone The last Dumble ODS we did a video for a few months ago sold for $239,000. I suspect this will go for more with the Eric Johnson namesake and the rarity of this model.
Great video, I actually never knew that Eric used a Dumble, thought he was playing Marshalls and Fenders. But you are right Mason, these are the Eric tones in one rig. Thanks guys! Oh, I won't be competition for the sale.
If memory serves, I think I saw it all onstage when I saw him just couple of days before covid shutdown... Wish I had taken a picture... Will do so in 10 days when I see him again... Shout out to his band as well, especially Roscoe Beck, really drove the band - relentlessly as EJ was doing his thing... Made my 2 16:36 right hand fingers sore just watching him play in my binocs...
Very Cool. To me, it nails the Tones era stuff. This is the perfect Dumble set up for me (except for the price lol). You do a great job of finding hidden gems and getting it right. This is up there with your Rivera Stage IV video. IMHO..Thanks!
This amp would have come after "Tones" but nonetheless is built to capture Eric's sound. It's a really great ODS style preamp with great cleans and a more smooth overdrive. I'd also say this one works better with Strat's than an other Dumble Overdrive I've played.
For SRV you need the Dyna Comp. That's always been the first thing that jumped out to me in that song: that percussive "click" that ONLY a Dyna Comp produces. I've built a few SSS clones and owned a 50W myself. I ended up selling the 50W because it was just punishingly loud and at the time there didn't really exist all the options we have now with IR cabs/load boxes, etc. I cannot imagine playing 150W. THIS would be the Dumble i would have if I could own any of them. Or at least any of the ones I've heard. I've been playing EJ Strats since 2008, i used his strings for a decade and my favorite speaker has been the EJ1250 forever. One might think I'm a fanboy, but the reality is that i got into his playing from his gear, not the other way around like it normally happens. Ive been repairing guitars for 25 years. I think it was the third EJ model Strat that came in, they were all for setups and one pickup change. That was when i came to the conclusion that they were, hands down the best designed and constructed Strats that Fender were producing outside the CS. I knew of "Cliffs of Dover" at that point but i don't even remember if i knew who did it at that point yet. With the strings i wanted to go lighter on the plain but not the wound, but i didn't line heavy top/light bottoms because they always felt uneven across the board. I saw the EJ used heavy Low E/A and G, and light D/B and high E. They were perfect. With the speaker i had alnico Blue and Gold but needed a higher wattage speaker and it was his. Except his pics, which are fine but they're just pics, I've never used any piece of his signature gear that wasn't great. It's the benefit of having a player with an exception ear that actually does more than just select a few custom colors and maybe a custom pickup: you actually end up with something that was purposely designed The way it was for a specific reason. Look at the Strat: a 57 with a super light two-piece body, quartersawn neck, thinner headstock and staggered tuners so you don't need a string tree. The countersunk holes in the tremolo block so the ball ends only drop before the surface and it increases the string to block contact; the thin finish without the poly undercoat (I've seen debate on whether it does or not: it doesn't, I've stripped and done a refin on one myself, there was no poly under it). Once the let you get a rosewood board, it became the perfectly spec'd guitar.
@@VertexEffectsInc I did very much. Great video. Great get too, I know a lot of people that would give a lot to just be able to plug into that for 20 minutes…myself included. It's rare that a piece of gear gives their tone to that degree. I was REALLY surprised.
Thanks for showing the Manzamp/Odyssey combo, especially just the amp without all the processing. As an EE, I'd love to see the insides (yeah, I know $400k) not to copy it, but to learn about what Mr. Dumble was thinking in how he made it. Each individual amp he made was a work of art, unique. I've never heard two that sounded the same. I have a pretty good idea, from the control layout, to the pedal and especially after hearing it on its own.
I think I read somewhere that Dumble covers his electronics inside the amp with a plastic/rubber compound-- the reason being, to keep people from learning his secrets...
Oh my lord thats the perfect amp!! Sounds stellar! One can only dream of playing it! BTW Mason my favorite D style pedal is the Ultraphonix II...use it every gig! Thanks!!
I would imagine EJ sold it for a decent price and obviously didn't really need it to do what he does. Now it's value is jacked into the stratosphere primarily on his association. Some rich guy will grab it for his collection and all involved win. Nice to hear it in action before it disappears. Great video.
Nice ! Great tones and playing. I’d encourage y’all to check out Demeter amps and preamps if you’re into these tones that are Dumble esque/adjacent and take pedals well.
Awesome! Especially loved the tone in the beginning with the overdrive and tube screamer, very nice. I may have missed it but not sure why Eric parted with this rig.
@@godbyone agree, another reason not to hold on to such expensive equipment. I have a personal article insurance policy for my guitar equipment and it gets expensive. Eric has probably gone through a lot of equipment in his time. Fuzz pedals alone in that one pic.
@@58lp2002yes. Having it at your house is one thing. But having 200k in a box on the road someone can steal. And get damage . Insurance per month on just that could be 1,000 buck s a more a month. Knew his son , he had two huge guys 6.5 300 pounds outside the dressing room two big guys in dressing room. . A couple weeks later. A guy that was there asked if I wanted ti buy amp. It had bb king on back. I said wtf. He had security everywhere. Why would u do that. But he he was s klepto. . It wax sad. I wouldn’t buy it. I thought he was going to get killed. . BBS. Bodyguard s were scary . He sold it for a 100$ back in 80s But people will steal anything anywhere anytime. To this day I don’t understand how he did it
Cool vid! Awesome to learn more about this elusive rig! EJ should have never sold the SSS or odyssey. So many of his classic tones bottled up in the preamp
Geez that sounds good - I've never heard a Dumble like this one - amazing, and great playing Gabe! Thanks to both of you! I may not buy it - I'd have to sell the house, and that might not go over real well with the rest of the household - LOL!
Wow. I get into comments all the time about dumble. People get all upset about price. But what’s odd. Violins. Cellos all pro level. Violins are into millions s a bow. Is 50k. Even 2nd chair. Violins are up there. The guy spend months on a amp. A to z. And you don’t have to get it
He had them concurrently with the Manzamp and Odyssey. If you pause during the Guitar Player Magazine article section it shows more information about this and the other Dumbles and how they were used.
Interesting I thought the Odyssey pushed the SSS not the other way around to get it to break up faster.. I Have the Dumble Ultra Phonix/Rockfonic 50 for sale it was built for Jamie Kime Zappa and I got it from Jedd Hughes who is Emmy Lou Harris and Rodney Crowels guitarist in Nashville.. I had it priced at market and then Alex passed and the Market changed Its priced at 80k obo. Has two channels clean and lead I ran reverb and delay post mic with it and same thing you put what ever pedal you want before it and maybe some tube screamer on lead side it sounds great straight in but reverb helps so does delay.. Im fully negotiable on price and the amp is near Dallas Tx id prefer not to ship but im sure something can be arranged ,, Best offer I think the reason this is priced at 399 is the last odyssey head and preamp sold for about that it was at 500 then went for around that same price so that set the market as it sold for that. I think EC paid Alex 100 k for his tweed bandmasters not sure if 100 each but that was the figure id heard. The Ultra features positive sustain on the clean side if you dime it or its up around the clean side will sustain as if it had ep3 preamp before it just rings and rings holds the chord.. The lead side has a lil chaos knob same as on the manzamp small red knob that is Gain or how much hair you want to add.. This amp is not smurfed or gooped epoxied but Alex hid some things below the boards jumpers and other goodies to throw someone off...learned alot from the amp.. Its a hybrid of sorts think creamy plexi lead and sss type cleans.. Has mid knob on back Alex etched the amp on back and of course the parts are signature as well the wiring....Perfect for a studio as it will get loud but same as this you can sit by it and not blow you down the block... I use a brown box with it as its finicky for specific wall current as all Dumbles are...Then lower the % and the cleans sparkle even more Solid as a tank... Tonefarm@proton.me.
Hope you enjoyed the video. Sounds like you have a cool amp there. To be clear, we just made a video about this rare amp, we're not the sellers. You'd need to get in touch with Techno Empire if you're interested in someone acting as a broker on your behlaf.
Hey Mason! I wanted to ask if i would need the buffer interface if i had an ampless gig. I’m using a strymon iridium and want to see if you have a connection guide of stereo and 4/5 cable method?
Not trying to be a Debbie downer but why is it not still Erics amp? As with many Dumble's that are for sale. Why did they sell them? This question needs to be addressed when it comes to lots of famous gear . Like David Gilmour's guitars for example . Don't his children get to sell them after he is gone? Or keep them like some do ? OR did he just need to pay off debts? OR did he just not want them anymore? Great playing by Gabe as always.
Yes, ain't cheap. Seems as though the market for this stuff sorta self-regulates. If there's a buyer, it'll sell. If the last few Dumble amps sold is any indication, they'll probably get what they're asking for it.
As close as the FRIENDS sounded he might have actually used that on the original TONES recording it sounded so CLOSE. At least to me. And that is over UA-cam, you guys are in the ROOM.
I thought the playing was a little slower and more deliberate but fantastic. Very well done. Great touch and phrasing. The demoing of this could've easily gone bad, through no one's fault.
Thank you very much for this super rare opportunity. The TS9 reissue doesn't have the JRC op amp that's in both the original and reissue TS808, so very surprised you didn't use an 808.
Not all TS808's or TS9's had JRC4558D's, even the vintage ones. Also that alone, although it has some influence, would have very little influence in the larger picture with the other processing pedals and the overdrive of the amp. Who's to say that the TS808 that EJ used had a 4558 to begin with?
1) $400,000 is insane 2) Eric's tone is Marshall's and Fender's - he has a video showing his rig in his studio - his signature tone is those two types of amps - it's not dumble.
1) We don't make the price - the market dictates the price. If that's the going rate would you sell it for $5K and leave $395K on the table? I doubt it. 2) Eric's tone has been a lot of things over time and has been a revolving door of gear. You can see in the video that this was in circulation in the mid 1990's and published in a Guitar Player Magazine. If you study a bit harder you'll see that there were Dumble's in the rig since the 1980's that came and went from Steel String Singers, to Overdrive Specials, and the Manzamp pair with the Odyssey. I suggest re-watching the video as it will disabuse you of some of your statements above, including an email between Eric and I where he acknowledges the use of the amps.
1) I wasn't assuming you were setting the price or even owned it - I know these amps can go for that much, it doesn't make it less outrageous lol. 2) I don't doubt he used all kinds of great amps over the years, and it is a great amp, but I just associate him with the Marshalls and Fenders so I find it a bit odd to see this amp marketed this way - but hey it's marketing. this is what I'm referring to ua-cam.com/video/P6dYmyfF5D8/v-deo.html
Even in his Total Electric Guitar video, one of the 3 amps in his rig is a Dumble. Did you know the Tune Zap was recorded on a Dumble Overdrive Special? Look into it a little closer.@@renleblanc2993
@@renleblanc2993Yup, I totally agree. EJs tone is Marshalls and Fenders full stop. He used the Dumble a little bit here and there but as far as THE EJ Holy Grail tone its not that significant.
Is Vertex going to make a Vertex Manzamp preamp pedal? why did you use a TS9 tube screamer BEFORE a fuzz face? I'm guessing Eric Johnson kept the TS9 turns on to tighten up the clean tone driving the fuzz face pedal.
No plans for it. If you look at Eric Johnson's signal path, that's where he puts the Tube Screamer. Joe Bonamassa as well. I know it's not conventional, but that's how they do it.
@@VertexEffectsInc do they turn OFF the tube screamer or just leave it turned ON the whole time? because even the TS buffer will make the fuzz face sounds awful.
@@VertexEffectsInc yes true that is why I'm confused because when Joe or Eric use the TS stacked with a fuzz face it sounds like its working together. The problem occurs when turning off the TS because the fuzz face starts conflicting with the impedance. I was always wondering by Dunlops gold EJF1 fuzz face sounds horrible by itself but you have to stack it with a TS pedal for it to work correctly. Try making a YT lesson about stacking an TS pedal before a fuzz face and using a EJF1 fuzz face with a TS pedal.
Back when EJ used the SSS as his dirty rhythm amp the TS wouldn’t always be on. He would sometimes engage the amps built in Pre Amp Boost instead or in addition to. He had a now defunct loop pedal he would use to toggle between a few different SSS sounds. These days, the TS is always on. I’ve owned two of his personal fuzz faces - one vintage and one signature. He had marked volume and fuzz levels. The fuzz level was set relatively low, since the buffer pushed the pedal. He’s noted that the TS interacts much better with vintage FF’s. I have a SSS #5 clone and it takes the pedal combo really well. If you try to run a buffered FF through a different amp circuit it can sound rather brittle… EG his Two RocK CLRS doesn’t interact as well as his Dumbles did.
it's funny how everyone is gawking at the price, like yea, you never heard of Dumble or Eric Johnson? how is this news? you think Jimi Hendrix's actual guitars are affordable?
Yet, it's probably one of the most popular tones that guitarist chase generally. Pretty easy to tell that by way of the signature pedals, guitars, etc. and their popularity. The market has a way of self regulating. The last Dumble we did a video on a few months ago sold for $240,000 and wasn't used by any famous players or build for anyone notable. It also wasn't as rare as the Manzamp and Odyssey. If this is beyond the tolerance of the market, it'll come down in price, however I don't see it going for less than $300K. Sure you could replicate it for less if you knew what was in it, but why leave several hundred thousand on the table if you don't have to?
Plus…every one is different? So, no way to distinguish what it is without the name. Burnt out on the dumble. Maybe he was messing with all of you. Dumb Le. Le Dumb. French for the amp is for the dumb?
@@Hugh_Jaynus_00 You're right, you could probably make the amp once for under $5,000 depending on how close you wanted to get to the look of the originals and how much you factor in your hourly labor rate. Of course, you'd need the amp to begin with, which might make the task a lot harder as access to these amps, especially with the intent to replicate, as most owners aren't anxious to have someone clone their Dumble. I'm sure any blind test would disabuse anyone of the notion of the clone underperforming the real amp if they can be made the same, but again there are a lot of steps to even get to that point. Yes, the amps are all different, but this one is especially unique - I've never seen another Manzamp like this, ever. Furthermore, it being built for Eric Johnson, and that sound, it's stands alone and separated from other Dumble amps. The prices are crazy, I agree, but we don't make the prices, the buyers in the market do by buying them for hundreds of thousands of dollars. And, to be clear, we're not the sellers, we just made a video of this rare piece of history, that's it. Your quarrel isn't with us.
@@VertexEffectsInc It was more the delay/chorus settings. He used a real Echoplex on that one. Too much hyperbole and praise throughout. How much of a kickback are y'all getting on this sale?
@@TrueManCrowyote I've listened to it isolated, it's pretty close. I think "Friends" was probably the closest for an EJ clean tone overall. There's no denial that he used a real EP3. For the practicality of the video, we stuck with the DD-2, a pedal also used by Eric Johnson. No kickback, but they provided us access to the amp in exchange for a demo video. We produced and shot the video at our own expense. They provided the shooting location for security purposes due to the value of the amplifier.
Not sure of the naming origin or if that’s the meaning or something else??? Some of the Dumble names can be pretty cryptic so I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions.
I don't want to sound snobby or bratty, but I'm really not that impressed. I mean, it's a good amp no doubt, but it's too bright, and the first overdrive tones soundedd fizzy and acid. Not worth the hype imho".
I don't care if god built and played it himself, no amp on earth is worth $400,000. Hell, no amp is worth $40,000. I'd say any Dumble is worth $10,000 absolute MAX, and that's with everything that comes with this listing. Sounds good and all I guess, but so does a Rockerverb MkIII or a JCM800 or a Vox AC30 or nearly any other amp under $5,000. Just more rich people bullshit. In a world where most people can't even afford to buy a home, this is just ridiculous.
So would you sell it for $10,000 and leave $390,000 on the table? I agree with you however, if there were only 300 Marshalls ever made we'd be having this same conversation about the Plexi.
@@VertexEffectsInc See, that's the whole problem with this line on thinking. The money IS NOT on the table for nearly half a million dollars, it's just the listing price. It will likely sit on Reverb until the price is dropped multiple times lmao. I could put my left shoe on Reverb for $400,000 as it is very specially worn-in and one of a kind, but just because it is listed at that price does not make it worth that price. This is the classic scalper's logic. Josh Scott (JHS) made a great video about the Bad Monkey pedal, and bam it went from like $70 on Reverb to $400. Doesn't mean people are buying it, it just means sellers think they have something worth more than it is because of hype. I understand a "one-of-a-kind" item being more expensive than your run-of-the-mill every-day item, but by a difference of 3900%? I don't know about that. Maybe $10,000, maybe $20,000, maybe even $30,000, but not $400,000. It's just an amp. It cannot be worth that much.
He didn't use it for everything... the Dumble was just the "dirty rhythm" amp component of his sound typically which I never heard you attempt? Think Keith Richards. This was like watching a 10 year old drive a Ferrari. You have to crank the amp to get EJ vibes... this is why he chose the 90 watt for smaller gigs. When you crank it, then the Fuzz tones would have been more "glued" together with the fundamental amp tone. I think the EJ tones are a little misunderstood in this video... cool preamp and poweramp nevertheless.
Does the video state otherwise? We literally show the diagram of how it was used in the opening sequence of the video with the Guitar Player Magazine article from May 1996. Nowhere does it say it was used on Cliffs of Dover. Would it not make sense to play Eric Johnson songs on an amp that was built for him?

So how are you guys not sick to death of Dumbles yet? They’re overpriced, elitist nonsense. Just wait until JHS or Jim Lill proves that a Line 6 can sound exactly like one of these things lmao
They’re cool amps, and I look at them more as pieces of history rather than quantify the value for me versus the market price. The price is the price. You or I don’t control that. If someone is willing to pay it, that’s the price, and I imagine the laws of economics and supply and demand have worked like this predating the existence of Dumble. I’m sure the modelers of your choosing can get as close to a Dumble as they might any other amp (Marshall, Fender, etc.), but they’re still “modeling,” emulating something that is the real deal. It can make for a fun video, but for a collector, no pedal, amp sim, or replica will scratch the Dumble itch.
@@VertexEffectsInc To be perfectly honest, anybody spending this kind of insane money on music gear (outside of high-level professionals buying limited amounts of gear they actually gig with) should be shoveling money into programs for the greater good. I will never understand why people aren’t immediately grossed out by such insanely priced pieces of equipment, where the money is spent purely to be able to say “it’s a real (insert brand here).” I don’t think guitar UA-cam should be perpetuating hype around insane gear like this, nor should it be encouraging the continued obsession with “holy” gear in the guitar community. It’s just bad for everybody. People who buy these will always buy these, and all the information about them is already out there for people who want to know about them. I understand that there is a constant push to make content, and it encourages leaning on old tropes (oh look, Nat Geo is doing “inside the mind of dogs” for the 78th time). But at some point, you gotta break the cycle and just focus on what’s actually good for the community: promoting great, affordable gear and emphasizing practicing and playing over said gear. Dumble has been invading almost every guitar UA-cam channel *heavily* for the past month or so. Viewers are flooded with it. I’m sure if you did a poll, most viewers would be much more excited about pretty much anything else. It’s just that this is all there is right now lol
Similar situation to a Klon pedal, yes the originals are overpriced and overhyped, yes newer pedals capture that sound quite well, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the original still sounds great, manufacturers/guitarists everywhere still use that tone as a gold standard, and they're a part of history.
@@jacobterrazas3147 @jamescerone - I would say any pedal, amp, or guitar that has mystique, a famous owner(s), and is scarce in the marketplace is likely to have a similar thing happen. I think the Dumble is the extreme in the amp world, the Klon in the pedal world, and the 1959 Les Paul in the guitar world. They all have separated themselves from everything else in terms of their mysticism and consequently the prices reflect that. As far as people being "sick" of Dumble amps, I can't say. I'm not sick of Dumble amps, but maybe the rest of the world is, or maybe you're just projecting your view of the landscape as it relates to Dumble amps which may be divorced from the larger community of guitar players. That's not for me to decide or say - I suppose if that's true, your sentiment will be echoed here in the comments. We had a small window of opportunity to document a historical piece of gear, and we took it. Whether or not people are sick of Dumble amps or not, it doesn't seem like the perceived climate toward these amps should prevent one from taking advantage of such an opportunity. Also, to be clear, we're not selling the amp. Techno Empire, a broker, is selling the amp on behalf of an anonymous seller. We requested access to the amp as a way to document a historical piece of gear. We have no stake in the sale of the amp. We earn no commission or benefit by way of the sale of the amp. The intent, again, was to capture a piece of history and present it to the guitar world. Nothing more. We shot this video at our own expense, however, we were provided the studio space and engineer by the broker where we shot and recorded the amplifier due to security reasons for such a high value item.

Perfect demo! Gabe has an in-depth understanding & nails it. What's that Strat being used? Looks like the real thang.
Pretty cool - sounds like EJ's sound. Great playing Gabriel. Would have loved to hear "Trademark" played on this rig.
Great amp for sure!
@@VertexEffectsInc I wish someone would profile this setup before it sells😉
Who in the heck could afford this rig? Not I, for certain
Sound great. $400,000 great? C'mon... But if you have that money for an amp, you don't have a money problem in your world. It's funny that it's also $1,000 for shipping, hahaha! Nice video, per usual...
We're not the sellers. I suppose the market will decide what the real value is. Glad you dig the video.
They are less. Couple will ask crazy. But there is a dumble.modded amp 45 k on reverb. It’s Been there. Awhile I bet they take 200k. That one.
@@godbyone The last Dumble ODS we did a video for a few months ago sold for $239,000. I suspect this will go for more with the Eric Johnson namesake and the rarity of this model.
Shoutout to Gabe for that demo. Crushed it!
Gabe was amazing 🤩
Great video, I actually never knew that Eric used a Dumble, thought he was playing Marshalls and Fenders. But you are right Mason, these are the Eric tones in one rig. Thanks guys! Oh, I won't be competition for the sale.
Glad you enjoyed!
Hope you enjoyed!
@@jwall3873 Yeah, a lot of them are gooped. But it isn't hard to figure out non-destructively what he did.

Hi Gabe! Another Gabe here 😂 wow beautiful playing, and beautiful tone! 🎉
He killed it!
Thanks Gabe!
Oh my lord thats the perfect amp!! Sounds stellar! One can only dream of playing it! BTW Mason my favorite D style pedal is the Ultraphonix II...use it every gig! Thanks!!
Wow, thank so much!
There are no magic amps or guitars. The magic is in the mind and the fingers of the player.
Important you included the mind. Usually people only reference the hands
@j.jester782 show me how to get a dotted 8th note with my fingers?
Let's not forget to mention the guitarist's soul.
I would imagine EJ sold it for a decent price and obviously didn't really need it to do what he does. Now it's value is jacked into the stratosphere primarily on his association. Some rich guy will grab it for his collection and all involved win. Nice to hear it in action before it disappears. Great video.
Great video. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome! Especially loved the tone in the beginning with the overdrive and tube screamer, very nice. I may have missed it but not sure why Eric parted with this rig.
We don't know why he sold them, just that he did at some point in the late 1990's. It was later owned by Stephen Bruton until about 2007.
It’s stressful knowing. A 150k could get stolen damaged. If it gets damaged nobody can really can fix it rite . And insurance is expensive on it.
@@godbyone agree, another reason not to hold on to such expensive equipment. I have a personal article insurance policy for my guitar equipment and it gets expensive. Eric has probably gone through a lot of equipment in his time. Fuzz pedals alone in that one pic.

Wow. I get into comments all the time about dumble. People get all upset about price. But what’s odd. Violins. Cellos all pro level. Violins are into millions s a bow. Is 50k. Even 2nd chair. Violins are up there. The guy spend months on a amp. A to z. And you don’t have to get it
Right, good point
Knew he had the SSS and an old ODS, never knew about these ones!
He had them concurrently with the Manzamp and Odyssey. If you pause during the Guitar Player Magazine article section it shows more information about this and the other Dumbles and how they were used.
What are those beautiful mics on the cabinets beside the SM7B?
Ohma mics: ohmaworld.com/collections/microphones

OMG $400k rig, dang I was about ready to click buy on that reverb listing.😢

Sounds better with the $50 tube screamer in front.
It's funny how all of the greatest amps in the world are improved by adding a cheap solid state circuit in front.
A question we'd only be speculating on. He also sold his SSS, ODS, and others.
That rig was used a lot on Venus Isle

Where do you find the Dumble Book?
Every once in a while, they’ll appear on Reverb.

What a sound… but what a price…. Life is going crazy
Yes, ain't cheap. Seems as though the market for this stuff sorta self-regulates. If there's a buyer, it'll sell. If the last few Dumble amps sold is any indication, they'll probably get what they're asking for it.

When you've got such a rare setup, is it really that necessary to keeping yapping on and on? Let us hear the damn setup for longer lol
As close as the FRIENDS sounded he might have actually used that on the original TONES recording it sounded so CLOSE. At least to me. And that is over UA-cam, you guys are in the ROOM.
We tried our best to really dial it in. The amp sounds amazing!
Agreed, EJ has the best tone in the game….
I thought the playing was a little slower and more deliberate but fantastic. Very well done. Great touch and phrasing. The demoing of this could've easily gone bad, through no one's fault.
Glad you liked it!
12pm EDT? Or different timezone?

1) $400,000 is insane
2) Eric's tone is Marshall's and Fender's - he has a video showing his rig in his studio - his signature tone is those two types of amps - it's not dumble.

Epic! 🎸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@waynegram8907 Not sure how they're stacking but the buffer would be there in either scenario.
If you try to run a buffered FF through a different amp circuit it can sound rather brittle… EG his Two RocK CLRS doesn’t interact as well as his Dumbles did.
imho i like it better than 0022 :)
it's funny how everyone is gawking at the price, like yea, you never heard of Dumble or Eric Johnson? how is this news? you think Jimi Hendrix's actual guitars are affordable?
True, but I get it. It's a lot of money, but there's only one of these out there.
Wonder why EJ got rid of this amp?
Tastes change I suppose???
@@VertexEffectsInc makes sense, he also did fine since then with his Marshall’s and Fenders!! 😂
Eric Johnson tone was never one i chased. It has always sounded digital.. which was the point.. but 400k? Are you fukking kidding?
Sad, nerdy obsessives...count me in 😂
Haha 😂
Thought Eric used Creambacks?🤔
Sure, let me take out another mortgage. I have enough equity. Just 360 more low-interest payments, and this sucker’s mine!
God status because of brand only. You can take
Plus…every one is different?

Manzamp… Man’s Amp. Really?
Not sure of the naming origin or if that’s the meaning or something else??? Some of the Dumble names can be pretty cryptic so I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions.

You must not have watched the video. If you're genuinely still confused this video is the least of your worries.
@@VertexEffectsInc i mean it looks likes some kind of video game console. Why the secretive nature? Just tell me what it does bro

I will never understand why people aren’t immediately grossed out by such insanely priced pieces of equipment, where the money is spent purely to be able to say “it’s a real (insert brand here).”
I don’t think guitar UA-cam should be perpetuating hype around insane gear like this, nor should it be encouraging the continued obsession with “holy” gear in the guitar community.
I see it as art, that also makes sound. Printers can print Picasso’s, but originals are the originals…
Jesus that sounds crazy dude!!! Very profound sound....
Yes, indeed! Very cool amp!
