Except it would be extremely hard to correctly get all of this... I mean, the lights themselfs are a huge roadblock. Plus all that equipment would be super expencive.
Rapid Lemon "Trashed Cop Cars" are most likely gonna be in a scrapyard. To be turned into scrap. And the surviving equipment was likely salvaged from the vehicle.
Play Capture Replay obviously they already do and have. Before and after this video. Just this past weekend several women were assaulted here in Atlanta buy a man impersonating a police officer. Please....better for US women to be safe than sorry.
DivideByZero actually they do leave a lot of that stuff on the cars. Talking about when you pass a old cop car sometimes you tend to slow down because you think you could possibly get a speeding ticket. They may not leave the lights on there but they always leave the spotlights and the computer chips in the car that allow the speed governor to be enabled. When I was younger my uncle was the town's electrician and we would play around with his Sirens all the time but we had to be super careful. So it's not hard to get them at all.
This is a very cool video that this department has done. It is important to know that this does not empower a wannabe to be a successful impersonator, it helps potential victims avoid this crime altogether. Most people are fooled because they have no idea what to look for, or what the laws are in their state in regards to a traffic stop and what the police are required to do. For example, Ohio has very specific laws and regards to what type of vehicle can pull you over. By that I mean, whether the vehicle is marked or unmarked etc. This police Lieutenant also makes a very good point, it is extremely unlikely that a vehicle would be pulling you over that only has one or two lights on it. Today's police vehicles are lit up like Christmas trees, and that should be your first clue. It is also very common for police impersonators to have 1 or 2 things on their belt, and very little on their uniform shirt. As a matter of fact most of them don't wear anything police oriented other than a gun, and rely on the fact that you have no idea what you were looking at, to intimidate you. Ex-police cars like the Crown Victoria are commonly used by these idiots. Beware of this, and do some research. I would bet that no unmarked vehicles are allowed to pull people over for traffic infractions in the city in which you live.
Very appreciative for this video officers! Also like all the cameras you keep both on personnel and vehicles keeps the lawman honest just for the few that give a bad rep for all in the public eye. Stay safe and keep providing the protecting friends!
I want to personally thank you guys for not only making this video but for your service, I always like thanking police officers for there service as it apparently is a thankless job, so please lt. Gensoles if you read this tell everyone at ELPD that I said thank you for your service
Call 911 and pull over in a well lit area like gas station, see how many lights in the car, a real police will may have some lights sometimes christmas tree lights, impersonator will only have like 1 or 2 lights since it's super expensive, ask for the officer's ID, a real one won't hesitate to give their ID. Edit: look for its equipment too, like bullbar, spotlights. If you have eagle eye try to see if it have any computer, antennas, radar, pager. A real one will have them. Don't forget that some police car have only 1 or 2 lighting so, you can't just say they're not cops. Follow the first sentence if you're not sure
I also can't stress this enough, COPS DON'T HAVE LICENSE PLATE FRAMES. I've seen so many impersonators with plate frames. Like, no, the police don't buy their cars from "Ford of East Hills" or whatever. If u see plate frames from a dealership (or "#1 Grandpa", obviously) it's not a cop.
Maybe police fleet department bosses and their technicians should make more of an effort to remove all signs that the vehicle was a police vehicle. One step further would be that citizens should not be able to buy police equipment unless you are in law enforcement and provide ID that you have permission by your department to buy that particular equipment, uniform, badge etc.
This video has a few issues. In 48 States, unmarked police cars use regular civilian license plates, and no markings. They also tint the lights to hide them. Sometimes they even use regular non law enforcement models as undercover patrol cars. So the only way to tell if it's law enforcement is the uniform and their identifier.
Here in California any emergency vehicle (police, fire, or ambulance etc) must have at least one solid red light facing to the front. If the emergency vehicle behind you doesn't have that, it may be fake or from a small department that isn't aware of the specific wording of CVC 25252 and 21806. These departments or individuals are exposing themselves to liability as you aren't required by law to yield to them.
I was told by a County Deputy, that if at night, only pull over in a well lit area at a fairly busy place. Traveling from one county to another, have areas that tend to be dark. He also told me that if I had a flat, slow down and keep going until I can pull into a well lit place. Told me that replacing a tire and or rim, is far better than pulling over into many of our dark areas. This Deputy. gave me his business card. Thank you for this video.
If I didn't know any better, I'd swear this was a hoax?! I wish LA County deputies out of the Santa Clarita substation were this outgoing, while still maintaining that professional bearing.. It would make for more approachable law enforcement personnel, therefore enhancing that agency-community relationship. Seriously is it really that hard? NO. This video perfectly illustrates what seems to be genuinely sincere and ethical "cops" who have the public's interest at heart. Or so it seems. I'm beginning to see that nothing is as it seems.. Anywho, good stuff. Just subscribed. Every law enforcement agency should have this.
Thought I saw a fake police officer earlier this week in my town (my coworker thinks they saw them as well). They pulled out of a dead-end street (that has quite a few houses on it) and turned on their lights right away. The lights were on the dashboard and were tiny. The car was blacked out and didn't look like any unmarked car I've ever seen. He was on the other side of the road (and I'd already passed him by the time I realized there were lights) so it didn't effect me.
In my state volunteer fire fires use all blue lights on their p.o.v. The fire chiefs use all red lights and are aloud to use a siren on their p.o.v. sheriff departments Also use all read. And both municipal police and state police either marked or unmarked all use red and blue. Also p.a. state constables are not allowed to use any lights or sirens on their p.o.v. because it's not registered as an emergency vehicle but due put decals on their cars making them look like police. Two from my county were arrested last week for outfitting their retired police charger with a like bar and lied about them being a part of a search and rescue group they made up.
East Lansing officers need to know D.O.T laws and rules. A charter bus driver is exempt from railroad crossing when empty! And when try to explain to the officer the rule and officer pulls out DOT rule book but REFUSES to turn the page to where it says exempt! But instead officer says " are you telling me the law?" You reply yes and he tickets you. But when shown to the magistrate and ticket gets dismissed! Wonder? Who knows the law?
Around where I live in the United States we do have some unmarked police cars. Sometimes hard to spot because they are not the same design and do have different colors. But yes we do have unmarked police cars in the U.S.
First I’d like to say, there is a difference between an unmarked and undercover car. An unmarked car isn’t supposed to be indistinguishable from a regular car. It’s just so at a glance it dosent catch your eye the same way a marked car does. An under cover car could be anything from your moms soccer van to some old beat up Chevy Malibu
The entire Connecticut State Police fleet (is unmarked) has no visible markings or badging, striping or lettering indicating a police vehicle. In addition there are no longer roof mounted light bars mounted on the roof. The state is asking for police impersonators while this largely benefits the troopers who can use the vehicle, fuel supplied, unrestricted off duty.
Great tips. However you never know how far an individual will go to make thier vehicle look authentic. So, always, ALWAYS, call 911 and inform them of vehicle and alleged officer with location if possible. They should be able to verify if the officer/unit is the real deal.
I thought the all blue was just a southern thing! I know Chicago runs all blue, but It's nice to see it other northern cities run it, the all blue looks so cool!
Ohio State Highway Patrol uses an all blue light bar on their roof while all other agencies use red and blue. Can always tell which one has a car pulled over based on that.
Here in Sweden and the UK, all blue is the norm for all emergency services. Red always means stop - Swedish police cars have a red front-facing strobe in the windscreen or lightbar that's used for stops.
Thank you for this. I understand the impersonator was pretending to be a patrol officer, but how about an impersonator pretending to be an undercover or in an unmarked car? Very tricky situation because you don't want to take the chance and non comply to an actual deputy. So how would you identify that in such a fast pace circumstance?
@@alexaann9232 I concur with your post. Mine was more to the vid. As cj222 wrote, call 911 to verify and to acknowledge you will comply. If not a cop, give them as much info on perp. If you don't feel safe where you're at, let 911 why and slowly go to a safer spot. Have a blessed day
Information but I guarantee you every department has unmarked cars and folks wearing plainclothes sometimes so this really doesn't inform people that well because most impersonators are pretending to be undercover as well because it's easier for them to make you believe that there are police officer if they don't have all the equipment if they're supposed to be undercover.
I work as a police/security contractor for NATO, and would like to point out that there is a component to the uniform that you forgot to include, and that would be the uniform hat/cover. Just thought I would let you know
I am aware. You should also be aware that a judge or arbitrator isn’t required to wear a black robe either. Not even in the US Supreme Court. But most choose to because of tradition and the image of authority it conveys. That’s not to say that all do, and I actually know of a few who wear regular business suits on the bench. In addition to security one of my hobbies is advocacy, hence why I know about tribunal procedures and due process
Advocacy is an interesting thing to do. If you don’t have the time or money to be a lawyer but still want to help others and give a voice to those who don’t necessarily have one it is a perfect activity
What if you believe your neighbor may be impersonating the police? Specifically a Genessee county officer. Thank you East Lansing police. Should I go to the Fenton local police or the county police about this? Hope you answer my question soon.
While I find it good giving helpful tips for spotting a impersonator, there are some issues; the most identifiable way would be the municipal plate. The uniform, set. The badge/id, set. The car, heck be a railroad police officer, set. The lights, well if your lucky with that railroad police fakory, you might get lucky fully suited up if not then plenty of lights off the internet, set. That municipal plate is the only thing that exactly says "we are the police" and Michigan doesn't require a front-facing plate so you can't tell.
I was pulled over last Wednesday (my birthday) the fake police officer gave me a citation for trafficking, possession of marijuana, and intent to distribute. He called my parents. My parents showed up and when it was time to leave, I asked for my citation. He said I couldn’t keep it. I said “your fake, I’m calling the cops on you” the impersonator immediately called for back up and his fake boss came. I went to his car and flamed him saying that he needed to try harder to scam people. Meanwhile my dad is yelling at me for disrespecting a cop. My dad didn’t know he was fake until I made the fake cop leave. Ya I’m grounded af though for Doja.
The best way to ensure citizens know if it's a real police officer and not is to have only fully marked police cars. No undercover and no unmarked. Easiest way to protect your citizens
With LED tech becoming cheaper and more available, the impersonators are going to start incorporating more realistic homebrew systems, so the cheesy lighting that they were using is going to become dated. I can see cars of the future having a type of NFC chip installed in the trunks, and the companion apparatus being installed on the front bumper of police cars, so they can be verified instantly during a traffic stop. Anyway, we got to think ahead of these unstable individual.
Hey great video. I noticed when you turned on the lights they were only blue, can you explain a little about the light colors (red/blue, only blue or red etc.) Thanks guys!Be safe
In Michigan a police car is required to have a blue light, we decided to go with blue only and not use red for better visibility and recognition. When you see all blue lights you know it's an East Lansing police officer.
Wait, were they in an unmarked style fake or in a marked fake. How brazen would they be to have a "marked" fake. Have to say that just about all of the stuff on your car could be bought online. Even the badge on your uniform.
When I first saw this video with the pic of the police car on the thumbnail I read it as "How to spot a police interceptor". I was like wow, I can't believe they're sharing this! Lol
These videos are awesome because people are getting braver and braver with the fake cop bull crap...impersonating a policeman is bad enough but when they go so far as to hook lights up and a lot of police equipment and getting behind people and attempting to pull someone over even as a joke has gone to far nowadays....they even have them on UA-cam as pranks but those pranks ain't funny or fun to watch...thank you guys for bringing out these videos and SHOULD come down HARD on people impersonating a cop......
In my city/county the police cars don't look like the ones in this video. But I live in a really small town in Florida and the cars are white and navy blue letters
how to spot a police imposter. 1) know what types of vehicles your police department uses. 2) officers have to tell you the reason for the stop before you hand over your license or anything else. they will tell you that they don't but its part of the training that they say "hi/hello etc. etc. I am __________ with the __________ police department, the reason why I stopped you is for _____________". 3) no officer will ever pull you over and step out of the vehicle wearing plain clothes. why? because plain close officers are either undercover, off duty, a detective or in the big cities a Lt or higher rank. all of these are no longer traffic officers and do not pull people over. now different areas do different things but all pretty much follow these three so its a good way to tell if you are dealing with an imposter. and you also do NOT have to pull over immediately you can go to where you feel safe if need be like into the next gas station of well lit area. you cant go 20+ miles but you can go a mile or two before pulling over if you don't feel safe. and if it is an officer, just tell them that. the reason why I didn't stop is because I didn't feel it was safe for you or me where you were trying to pull me over.
What about the cars Like your explorer And the Tahoe And the charger Or crown Victoria Aren't those some of the main vehicles Also is a Warrent basically a huge fine you need to pay off or else you get arrested for doing something small
A warrant is issued to someone who did not appear in court for something they were charged with. It can be for something as small as a parking ticket all the way to a serious felony.
Absolute B.S. Unless you have a mental illness. Why impersonate. Just join the police department in your state and help keep your community safe. Plus you get paid to do it.
Actually yes somebody can get a badge very easily all they have to do is go onto Google and type in badge maker and they can order one it’s not hard to do
Cops: Our cars are very distinctive and noticeable.
Also cops: *drives ghost cars*
Now the impersonators know how to equip their vehicles :)
Except it would be extremely hard to correctly get all of this...
I mean, the lights themselfs are a huge roadblock. Plus all that equipment would be super expencive.

If their badge reads "Honorary Game Warden"
For the most part, an impersonator won't have a Peace Officer ID Card.
When a unmarked car tried to pull my friend over he didn't stop until he was in a safe lit up area then got charged with evading a police officer
Did he turn on his hazard flashers and proceeded to the area in a safe manner?
Unmarked cop cars are not supposed to make traffic stops. It's not safe.
@@Mikevdog they're not supposed to but however they do if it's a unmarked car but they're in full police uniform
@mikevdog it depends in all states and what their department allows them to do

I'd say your best bet is to call 911, regardless of what the officer is driving, Dispatch should know that the officer is trying to pull you over.

This dude knocked on my door and said he's a cop, and kinda looked the part.
I told him, no warrant no candy! Damn kids.
Most impersonators have unmarked vehicles. You need to explain that instead of a real marked vehicle. This video was pointless
the impersonator in OUR city was using a marked vehicle which is why we made this video.. we do not stop people in unmarked vehicles in East Lansing.
East Lansing Police is having lights on your car legal as long as you don't use them on a road (I live in Massachusetts)
The impersonators are getting better. You can get most of that stuff online. A quick search here online will show how creative they can be.

Yeah, that's completely unnecessary. It's wrong to tell people that they can't buy a simple little light or something.

You can always phone 911 and verify that the officer behind you is legitimate
Like the video says haha
this video made me a better police impersonator
I stumbled across Jeremy Dewitte Metro State and now i am here
I have a question , if you are issued a speeding ticket , ...the officer is pacing you....does the police car speedometer have to be certified ??
One question to ask is, "is your name Jeremy?".
This was uploaded on my birthday
(:
happy belated birthday!!
wow same
With LED tech becoming cheaper and more available, the impersonators are going to start incorporating more realistic homebrew systems, so the cheesy lighting that they were using is going to become dated. I can see cars of the future having a type of NFC chip installed in the trunks, and the companion apparatus being installed on the front bumper of police cars, so they can be verified instantly during a traffic stop. Anyway, we got to think ahead of these unstable individual.
Thanks from a future state trooper.
good luck!
Tyler Hendrix hope you get it i wanna be an officer too
Tyler Hendrix fuck the feds
Tim Cool They are not feds, but state level idiot
I learn that undercover officers in Lansing do not conduct traffic stops. Wow
So this cop just said your allowed to be on your phone while driving if your calling 911 to see if he is a real cop?
Once on another UA-cam channel a police officer checked a fake cop and he ripped out his badge and it was so fake that it broke .
I have seen a lot of unmarked police cars pulling people over. If I ever get pulled over I will call the local police just to make sure for my safety
Shhhh! You’re giving Jeremy Dewitt ideas!
Light colors could also be important.
This only applies to Australia as I know so far. But if you ask a police officer for his/her badge and rank they have to tell you.
Very good tips
Wait, were they in an unmarked style fake or in a marked fake. How brazen would they be to have a "marked" fake. Have to say that just about all of the stuff on your car could be bought online. Even the badge on your uniform.
When I first saw this video with the pic of the police car on the thumbnail I read it as "How to spot a police interceptor". I was like wow, I can't believe they're sharing this! Lol
I'm dead
Social Media Officer... dats new
Good info
If you are a bounty Hunter how should you personalize your car to properly identity yourself?
In my city/county the police cars don't look like the ones in this video. But I live in a really small town in Florida and the cars are white and navy blue letters
Plot twist.. he IS the impersonater.
Just don’t go calling the cops on people who drive old police cars. A lot of them still have equipment left on or inside.
how to spot a police imposter.
That is cool an all but how do you know if an unmarked police car is a real police officer
I own two unmarked police cars and I love them an FPIU and a crown Victoria
And why the hell would you share this!?! Smh 🤦♂️
Purple and gold in East Lansing?
If an impersonator is indeed following you can you just run into the fire station and request for someone to be your witness
And if so can you ask to see it if you go to court ?
Undercover cop cars don't have municipal plates where I'm from.Sketchy mo'fos they are.
Will I make the police officer dislike me if I ask them to show me their ID?
kevin gose not if you are polite about it, no.
What about the cars
Like your explorer
And the Tahoe
And the charger
Or crown Victoria
Aren't those some of the main vehicles
Also is a Warrent basically a huge fine you need to pay off or else you get arrested for doing something small
A warrant is issued to someone who did not appear in court for something they were charged with. It can be for something as small as a parking ticket all the way to a serious felony.
East Lansing Police oh thanks
Dam Hamilton is a toothpick you sure he isn’t a high schooler
Absolute B.S. Unless you have a mental illness. Why impersonate. Just join the police department in your state and help keep your community safe. Plus you get paid to do it.
Freefieldtraining has done a video on this.
Actually yes somebody can get a badge very easily all they have to do is go onto Google and type in badge maker and they can order one it’s not hard to do
Good tips!
In indiana they can pull you over with any car.. got pulled over by a dodge challenger with normal plates last week
should talk about uc or unmarked cars. unless only full uniform or marked cars are allowed to make stops.
In our city only marked patrol cars will make traffic stops. If an unmarked car needs to stop someone they will call for a marked unit to assist.
very handy, but uhm, unmarked cars?
Can you can do unmarked car too
what about unmarked units
Can someone link me to a website to find this impersonating gear, to better acquaint myself? (joking)
Ya this is all well and good but not all states and city’s are like this ...
why dont you have red lights
U just ruined wannabe cops careers😭
