    2:16 In fairness, a Geiger Counter will tick a every now and again even when not near a dangerous amount of radiation. So Olimar noting that the thing ticks every once in a while is not necessarily a cause for concern. What's probably a bigger cause for concern is that he seemingly doesn't know what it is or how to use it in general.

    one part i must disagree on, as no one else online seems to have noticed either: a pilot's seat is absolutely necessary for leaving the planet. olimar flies, shakily, within lower orbit during the game, but rockets have seats for a reason: withstandsing the g forces without getting knocked around the cockpit and ruining the controls. the jump to faster-than-lightspeed would be lethal if he couldnt buckle himself into the ship, because he would fly out through the glass the very instant he stopped.

    I saw a comment recently that talked about how the pilot's seat is probably necessary for going at high speeds, like the kind he needs to get home, as it would safely strap him in to a cushion that prevents him from getting flattened by the several Gs of force he would be experiencing.
    Also, Pikmin 4 reveals that there are multiple versions of both bolts and the gear in the ship, so I choose to believe that these are structural parts that would probably cause the ship to fall apart if they were missing.

But with how the game handles the endings you could have 28/30 ship parts and you'll get the bad ending just because you forgot the Extraordinary Bolt or the Libra/Sagittarius and fail to lift off completely??? As a kid, when I collected the Geiger Counter, I was like: “okay cool, got it what ever.” But as a grown adult man who stills plays this game, when I read Olimar’s description on the Geiger Counter now, it’s reacting to radiation ☢️! It’s crazy that Olimar has no idea what radiation is. But then again, he was never hurt by it or affected by it. Pikmin takes place on Earth long after humanity has disappeared or faded away. We don’t understand why humanity is gone, Pikmin 1 is one of my favorite games of all time.

    I absolutely love this video. The S.S. Dolphin is my favorite ship in the series and i love seeing all the pieces come together to complete the ship. This is a level of detail i kind of missed in pikmin 4 since the S.S. Dolphin model is no where near as detailed as it was in the first game. And they left out alot of the ship parts. They only really put in the ones that show up externally. Anyways one part i could never wrap my head around as a kid and now is the zirconium rotor. I know olimar says a mechanic installed it and it was expensive but thats it. Like why is it required and what does it do for the ship to have a better chance of escaping the planets atmosphere?

    • @Subreon
      @Subreon Рік тому +6

      It's also the best ship cuz it rumbles and rattles like an old muscle car compared to the newer ships and was named after project dolphin (the gamecube prototype). It's also got a lot of personal touches from years of olimars use. Such a storied vehicle uwu. And it's just got that classic video game retrofuturistic appearance to it with the glowing and shape and such. Though olimar says his fav color is red so idk why it's main style is white and orange. Unless maybe the orange used to be red and that's part of the aging from years of olimars use. Surely he'd fix that though. Idk. I think it just would've been better if the orange was red. Though I realized I accidentally made the ss Shepard the same color cuz I picked orange cuz closest thing to umbreon. But also white and orange is the coast guard colors so it seemed fitting for a rescue squad. And then I noticed olimars ship and I'm like whoops, I accidentally made it look like they're in the same fleet lol. Ah. The little things.

      @@Subreon Funny you say it rumbles because I swear after you collect the gluon drive in pikmin 1 the ship rumbles and roars even more. Really driving home the feeling that you're in a rocket ship. • @Subreon
      @Subreon Рік тому +1

      @@oldsoulgarage2982 oh, nah. The ionium jets are to turn the ship in space since the fins can't do it with no air. It's real tech. Though now they're making rockets with engines that can turn when self recovering. The ss Shepard and other pikmin ships have those directional nozzles too.

    • @oldsoulgarage2982
      @oldsoulgarage2982 Рік тому +2

      @@Subreon I somewhat agree with this. Yes, you are correct the ionium jets help turn the ship while moving through space. they can act as RCS thrusters, if you have ever played Kerbal space program you should recognize that name lol. However I would think the omega stabilizers would move up and down like an aileron on a plane to steer the ship. Granted they may only work in a planet's atmosphere but olimar specifically states they help steer the ship. And I would think that during normal space flight outside of a planet's atmosphere, the 4 individual nozzles on the dolphin's engine would be able to tilt and gyrate to help the ship turn in space. And in emergency situations like in the Hey Pikmin intro, olimar can use the ionium jets as emergency RCS thrusters to help avoid hitting anything.
      Also, I think of the ionium jets as turbos since they always shoot out those small spurts of exhaust whenever the ship is taking off at the end of the day, almost like they are priming themselves to help boost the output of the engine for liftoff. Just my personal headcanon but im happy to finally see someone online who loves this ship as much as me lol

    I want to believe that there are forces at play outside of the captains control on the pikmin planet as shown by how 99% of travelers to it get shipwrecked. I find it odd everyone says bad piloting when its said that hes never had this happen until now and suddenly through pikmin 1 2 and 3 and even 4 suddenly everyones a bad pilot? Something on that planet probably related to the waterwraith is causing this through manipulating the forces of fate itself! My running theory (spoilers for pikmin 3.)
    The Plasm wraith has some strange effect on the atmosphere and is trying to capture people! It never even left after defeating it in pikmin 3, if you notice IT LIVED ON IN THE ENDING TAKEOFF SEQUENCE! It's free to keep doing this!

    • @Stathio
      @Stathio Рік тому +1

      YES!! THANK YOU! FINALLY someone else noticed all of this!! In Pikmin 4, Shepherd even talks about how Bernard is such a good pilot, and that it was odd that he crashed.
      The series has been STRONGLY hinting basically right from the start that something is consciously CAUSING these ship crashes.
      And yes- my leading theories are that it's either the Plasm Wraith (never explained why it goes after Olimar, doesn't die in the ending) or- possibly even the Pikmin themselves in some way- they always want an external leader to help them thrive, which would explain why they're constantly getting people who fit that role to crash on the planet. They let you go once you've helped thin out their predators enough, teach them survival skills and increase their numbers/help evolve their onions. This also hints at why Leaflings can't leave the planet, as the onions have attempted to make them permanent Pikmin leaders- that's also where the dandori obsession comes from- it's the specific skillset that helps Pikmin survive and thrive.

      The thing is that while Olimar is finding the core components the repair parts would be invaluable for the countless smaller parts that would need to be replaced to keep the larger parts in place and make the ship space worthy. If we're being truly realistic if a machine is hit so hard most of the parts fly off, especially one as complex as a space ship it's unlikely to be fixable by just slapping the parts into place.

    I'd say the Pilot's Seat is a bit more important than people give it credit for.
    It's not just a cushion, it's the whole seat. Without it, Olimar has to presumably sit on exposed metal parts.
    That may be fine for flying a couple dozen meters into the air each night, but that's only a short flight, at which point I'm assuming he turns on autopilot to stay in the air so he can sleep.
    However, flying all the way to Hocotate might take days, during which OIimar needs to pay attention not to fly into any more asteroids. Imagine you had to drive halfway across the country after someone removed the entire driver's seat from your car.
    What if Olimar encounters any turbulences during his trip? He could be sliding all around his cockpit, holding on to the steering wheel for dear life.
    I mean, we don't even know if Olimar can buckle up without the seat.
    Also, he's gonna sit much lower than usual, meaning he might not even be able to see where he's flying very well.

    Shock absorber should be A tier, you notice how much the ship rattles, and jostles, especially during take off? That's what it's here to prevent, and that's important because it keeps things in place, constant taking is likely to knock things out of place, and most things need to be where they are supposed to be if they are going to work, this is doubly true if the ship is missing a bunch of other pieces, as that leaves a lot of empty space, and slack for pieces to fall into

    yeah the only reason half this junk is "necessary" is the way the Dolphin will repair itself to a certain degree from mere *number* of parts returned. without getting enough parts to do most of the secondary repairs, he's lifting off with all the parts he has, still being cracked/bent/etc., and the repair devices might be able to fully repair his ship across the span of a several-week trip, but not within the remainder of his 30-day limit, and certainly within the mere *seconds* it takes him to escape the atmosphere.
