Could not agree more!! This scene ALONE makes the film Oscar worthy!! (But Hollywood isn't about positive and uplifting messages regarding the human soul--it's just about the cash!!)
@dayonedad I just recently watched this for the very first time and while certain parts were difficult to watch(my biological father was not, nor has he ever been, in my life and I was in legal trouble for several years of my adult life which, if I hadn't been given a second chance, would have put me in prison for decades, possibly the rest of my life), this is a film which does NOT get the credit and recognition it deserves but nevertheless is still a film which NEEDS to be seen and discussed by a wider audience and needs to be shown in all junior high/high schools. Edit: Fun fact-"South Central" was based on the 1987 fiction novel "The Original South Central LA Crips" by Donald Bakeer who had taught high school in South Central LA.
@@nyterpfanthat's an absolutely stupid take. The hollywood of 1992 is VASTLY different than the hollywood of more than 30 years later. One good scene doesnt make it more worthy. This doesnt hold a candle to Furious from boyz in the hood
@@alexramos7708 I disagree with your comment it's a lot of subliminal messages in this movie "South Central" most LA Gang Movies at the end everyone dies like Boyz in the Hood & Menace to Society & Colors.
The early 90s had so many powerful messages in these movies about the community and how we should make attempts to fix what was and is broken. 💯 But they don't get talked about enough. They sure as hell ain't makin em today
It gets talked about and the people who do the talking are called disparaging names and laughed at. The message is nothing new. Everyone knows what needs to happen, but it's easier to blame others than look in the mirror and be the change.
*Boyz N The Hood* is the story that displays what happens to a son when a strong father and mother is there guiding him through life in the tough part of America (despite having 'some' bad influences surrounding him). *Menace ll Society* displays the results of a son's life who has had a majority of bad influences surrounding him, despite the small window of opportunity to save his life. *South Central* shows us the origins of a son's life; 'the new cycle' beginning with 'the father'. And most importantly, it shows how the father decided to change his wrong ways for the sake of the son. Very interesting how all of these films came out the next year after the other: *Boyz N the Hood (1991), South Central (1992), & Menace ll Society (1993).*
Yep that guilty conscience was doing all his talking and he knew him not being there for his son played a big role but he didn’t want to admit he was at fault. It’s easier to pass the blame than to take accountability for your decisions.
At 1:49, Ali's quote about his job and women and being "some daddy" reminds me of the scene in Gladiator when Marcus Aurelius explains to Commodus that the latter's faults as his son were his failings as a father. In a sense, Ali failed his son and he went down the wrong path. A brilliant scene with Glenn Plummer and Carl Lumbly.
This movie is deep asf, as someone who used to be in the streets. Getting in trouble with the law, it just shows how destructive being in that life really is. You don’t just suffer but those around you.
Helping is costly as the saying goes! No good deed goes unpunished! This might deter you from helping again but that should be all the more incentive to do good in such an unjust world. You can break the cycle! This is a very powerful scene!
