YES exactly, the sets looked cheap and fake and made the world of the show feel so small. the colors were also really saturated for some reason which made it look kind of goofy
NC seemed so overly produced. I think the ultra HD is also probably what took me out of it a bit. Maya's arc was one of the few redeeming qualities of it.
If they don't hire child actors I don't see how it won't turn into some weird Euphoria wannabe. Teenagers are awkward. The thing that always made Degrassi so relatable was seeing the journey of a pre-pubescent brace faced grade niner turn into a cool autonomous adult comfortable in their own skin over the course of their four years. This 'highschool experience' personified is also what makes Degrassi so timeless. Really watching with baited breath here. I hope coming to a streaming service will also get new fans experiencing Next Generation. I have the Canadian version of HBO and if they don't give us this Canadian gem I will lose my mind. While I agree, child actors cost production more money cuz they can't work regular hours... so even tho I'm hopeful, I won't be surprised if they don't
@@nomanejane5766 Bruh hbo got way more money than the Canadians that originally made degrassi and have had child actors in a lot of their shows so idk why that’d be an issue
My hope is that they learn from their mistakes. No more cramming 100 consecutive traumatic storylines into one person (coughclairecough). Stop making characters act unlike themselves for the sake of drama (Eli calling Claire a bitch, Spemma, Declan and Jane)... So much.
Make it even more glaringly awkward on the freeze frame. A traumatic reaction where a snot bubble is forming and they just freeze on that ugly cry face. 😂
I think the best way to make degrassi gritty but not overly so is to only include swearing, and no nudity like in euphoria. It would be more realistic to the average high schooler and still edgy like hbos other shows. and since degrassi did use the first f word (fuck) on Canadian television in the 80s I think it would be so awesome a fun little parallel to the og series
i need snake's son, mia's daughter and the baby liberty gave up for adoption to be in the new cast of students - an homage to next generation and emma being the child of a character from the previous iteration
In universe, snake's son would be 20 and izzy would be 19 in 2023, although liberty's child would be around 18 so she could probably have a season. Jenna and KC's kid would be about 12 tho so in a few seasons 👀
I hope Marco has a boyfriend that treats him right. Have we had a openly gay teacher on degrassi I can't remember. He could also be the one in charge of the lgbt+ club and share his experience coming out 20 year's ago.
I'm a teen, and my mom suggested that we watch Degrassi: The Next Generation last week. I said yes as a joke. Now I'm obsessed. We're already on season three. I'm pumped for this reboot, honestly.

No way! I can’t wait! I’m hoping it’s closer to Next Gen or the og series’ than Next Class in terms of feel and realism. I liked next class, but it just wasn’t the same… and I am concerned with them making it too grown up. Also, something that annoys me about Netflix, and other streaming services is how short the seasons are. Not the 40 episode seasons, but a typical 20-25 episode season
unfortunately it's been announced that the HBO one will consist of 10 hour-long episodes, I guess short seasons are trendy on all streaming services 😭 but I'm hoping that maybe at least since the episodes will be longer maybe they'll be higher quality?? idk I'm so nervous!!
@@jane-mulcahy hour long episodes is what degrassi has been needing tho! Sometimes the stories are so rushed within those 20 min then it’s resolved by the end so fast ! I recently finished Season 13 and honestly I'm glad with shorter seasons. Waay much less time commitment for me. Hey if that's what you prefer cool, you do you. For me personally I prefer shorter seasons. Makes it easier to get through
Whaaaaatttt?? This is crazy and so exciting lol. Google didn't even alert me, the algorithm did - so you are definitely THE go to channel for all things Degrassi 😂
I think they should bring Craig back so he and Marco can get the epic romance viewers deserved. Edit: adding an actually fully written play cause I’m rewatching “The Ultimately Degrassi Video” and the music section mentioned how the plays usually have like one or two songs.
I keep seeing this comment. Did I miss something? I have no recollection of any Marco/Craig sexual tension or even Marco being into Craig. I stopped watching once the original characters weren’t on anymore. Did they come back in newer episodes? It’s also been years since I’ve seen
@@roseyp7047 so there was a interview between the actor of Marco and Craig where they were discussing about their first time auditioning and going over scripts. Apparently the Degrassi writing team wrote a script that involved Marco and Craig having feelings for each other. However, later on the directors would scrap that idea. There was an episode where Marco kissed Craig to make Dylan jealous, but yeah that's about it. Many fans feel like these two would've had great chemistry because of Craig's failed heterosexual relationships. And the fact that Marco deserves someone better than Dylan.
Honestly one of the things I’m most afraid of for this reboot is if it loses its “Canadian charm” after going on HBO max. As a certified connoisseur of Canadian teen dramas and tv shows, each of them have this uplifting tone after all of these serious events happening to the characters, unlike the states. In American teen dramas, it’s more common, especially nowadays, to keep having plot twist after plot twist, just for “shock value”, and it gets old when it serves nothing for the shows characters. Even though I have a soft spot for Next Class, we kinda saw how it lost its Canadian charm by being a little TOO like American tv, and that resulted in it being just messy af. I’m still very excited for this reboot nonetheless bc it’s the first time I get to speculate and theorize, as I always was on the outside looking in during the next generation days and through next class.
Over the past year Degrassi-tube has become a weirdly popular genre. Compilation videos, tier lists and a dedicated fanbase of Degrassi-storians than ever before. We should all be proud of this, but especially you! Great vid!
I had myself convinced I was totally over needing new Degrassi, but the second I heard this news that was out the window. I'm turning 31 tomorrow, so I take this news as a birthday present. I'm going to be optimistic about it. Also, I too want Spinner and Emma to divorce and have Sean and Emma get together. Spinner could own the Dot and continue being the wise older brother presence!
honestly i had lost all hope, and rn i don't know what to feel, like I love degrassi, but 1 hour episodes? HBO? none of that sounds suitable for Degrassi, anyway happy birthday
@@vstopbiaswreckingme7194 Yehh,, the 1 hour episode ting has me thrown off course🙄 idk bout dat one but ig maybe it's worth the try. It better be good with lots of unpredicting storylines
I completely agree w/u about the casting! As a teenager it was super comforting to see teens on TV that actually looked like me instead of hot twenty something models.. also i rlly hope they dont take it off tubi 😔
You had me at Tristan apologist. Trust me, you're not the only one. At the end of the day, behind all of that sass and flash there's an insecure teenager who just wants to love someone. Yes, the writers made him say some horrendous things that made him unforgivable in the fandom, but Tristan is so much more than his snarky comments. Loved your reaction vid! I used to watch The Degrassi Experience back in the day so it's always so refreshing to hear a fellow Degrassian spout off their thoughts.
I feel like they could strike a similar tone to Grand Army (gone too soon!) and it could fit the Degrassi energy while still upping the production value/fit the tone of HBO and hour-long dramas. I think that show left a lot of space for true joy, big conflict, and small conflict and I think if new Degrassi picks up that torch + a bit more levity and silliness it would be a perfect balance. I also wonder if they fudge the ages a bit, could it be a similar entry point as TNG with Mia's kid being the connection from the last series to this one?
I loved Grand Army so much--they had some amazing and real stories. Ppl keep comparing Euphoria to Degrassi and I just dont see it. They are nothing alike. Grand Army was way more a successor and what a surprise... Netflix cancelled it!
10 1 hour long episodes makes me so nervous that we WILL lose the tone of the show. I fully expect it to be a euphoria toned show for a mature audience & have absolutely no reference to the next generation at all...Or having it be an older/serious tone will be because they have older characters appearing. I will be devastated. As a now 31 year old woman - I will watch a teen centered show with actual teen actors if it keeps that tone we all love! Watching degrassi has always been like cracking open a sweet valley high, fear street, babysitters club book.... it's fun to escape....plus the tweens/teens deserve something they can watch! I still vividly remembering watching degrassi for the first time in the summer of 03 & i'd love for the youth be able to have that experience
Okay Marco as a teacher would be so great..... PLEASE let's manifest it 😌✨ As long as it keeps that same charm, I'll be okay. I have very low standards, I have liked pretty much every season of Degrassi (even some of Next Class!) so as long as it feels like Degrassi, I'm all for it. Just PLEASE cast actual teenagers and PLEASE mix the light and dark plots together well. I liked the tone Next Class had at times with more serialized stories but don't focus so much on one character's storyline that everyone else gets discarded. It's an ensemble show!!!! Also: give us the gays. I need more lesbians. I need more trans kids. Bisexual! Pan! Ace and aro! Give us some ✨variety✨
they need to keep the after school special vibe cause even though i loved the love triangles, thats what made DNG have the vide it always had. I also really hope the actors are young cause it always made me feel like i could releate when i was younger. im looking forward to the next eli /clare or sean /emma epic love story that has 800 unfathamable things happen to them lmao
I personally think the reason why Degrassi TNG was so good was because of the time it came out. I often rewatch episodes for the nostalgia and the reason I didn't like next class was because of how much it was about things like social media and smart phones. I feel like the reboot won't have the same effect and will be like every other teen show nowadays but that's just my opinion.
Maybe u're an 80's baby or early 90's baby. I love Next Class bcuz I feel a connection towards it. I wuz 15 years old when I discovered it on Netflix. The whole social media & smartphone issue dat occurred on Next Class are the exact same issues I had goin' on around me in my middle school & high school. Dat's why I felt a connection towards Next Class & I rlly enjoy the intro theme song despite everyone else saying it's corny. I fcking LOVE IT😁❤ IT'S GR8 !!
One of the amazing things about degraded jr high, high, and tng was that I am still able to relate to all of them as a teenager today. So I love what you said about making it timeless.
literally would’ve LOVED more with ellie & sean, i think they were really good for each other and the show ended up screwing them both over with their endgames
You put into words ALL of my concerns about this reboot. I am one of those Degrassi fans that hates change LOL so i am a little apprehensive about where this will go. So excited for your later videos on this! Your deep dive video is seriously the only reason i went back and watched any of the later seasons (I stopped after the Spemma mess lol) so, again, can't wait to hear what you think!
im really hoping hbo max sticks with the soapy ensemble vibe degrassi has, while just making it less cringey. covering serious/controversial issues but having so many different people all with different issues is what makes the show so memorable for me. there was constantly something new and usually serious going on, but sometimes the writing is too campy for the topics. im also hoping they do a season a school year and release them once a week, it just flows better that way imo
As a Degrassi lover since Degrassi Junior High and beyond, I was pleasantly surprised that I agree with you. I'm really hopeful that they don't ruin this opportunity for us to potentially get some good new Degrassi content! Fingers crossed sister!
the reboot was announced like a day after i finished all of TNG & next class and was in the throes of post-series depression, so i absolutely relate to the butterflies :') thanks for your thoughtful and quality content on degrassi!
idk if youve watched degrassi junior high or degrassi high, but you really should IMO, I watched it and it can be pretty great, you'll probably notice that TNG drew a lot of inspiration from those shows when it comes to story lines and honestly it's fun to see what happened to the adults in TNG before they were the adults
One thing I would LOVE to see: is the background music and musical stings/ effects for dramatic moments that next gen had. Love it, and I’m here for it. It’ll totally set the tone.
Next Class had it too. I rlly need Jim McGrath & Tim Welch to release those music scores on YT bcuz one of my favorites is frm the part when Miles told his Mom about wht Hunter did which inflicted her to send him away to a psych ward. I also like the score when Mya got cut frm the bus crash opera/play and she wuz staring creepily at the pictures of herself on the hospital bed.
Degrassi will live on forever lol. I really think it’s fair only if they bring back Marco as the new “Mr.Simpson” Either way I’m nervous but also looking forward too seeing what happens..this is HBO Max so I think maybe more mature more layered characters. Let’s see! I agree about Spinner and Emma divorce announcement. I’d also love to see what Alex been up too. I know Deanna isn’t acting anymore but I’d love to see where is Alex now what’s she been up too. Also I love your videos I really do hope you do more Bollywood content too yes I watch them I’m not Indian but I love Hindi movies since I was a kid. I know those video’s aren’t as popular as your other videos but please do consider making more Bollywood and other international film content!
Completely agree with everything you said!! They have such an opportunity to make a new series for new fans as well as appealing to fans of the original series
I want to see the day when all of the older gen characters’ children have their own moment at Degrassi! Maybe somehow Liberty and JTs baby comes to degrassi they’re on a mission to find their mom!? And discovering what happened to JT. Speaking of, they need to make sure they put the JT memorial somewhere in the school…
I also agree that they should keep the tone. I can see things going... so, so wrong if they don't handle the topics with care. I love euphoria a lot, I can relate to it a lot. But I have an issue with so many other shows trying to become euphoria. If that makes sense? I just don't want Degrassi to turn into 13RW. Also I loathe the GG reboot, it's... boring and exhausting, simultaneously
@@jane-mulcahy yes, exactly! I remember how well they handled Cam's suicide (and Maya's attempt in NC, it was honestly the arc they did best in all of NC, IMO) and I just don't want that/other serious topics to be exploited in any way
They better keep degrassi on UA-cam >:’(( I’m already rewatching literally every season I grew up watching lol. Also it’s kinda wild how I got the feeling to start rewatching the show for the billionth time just a few days ago and then the news about the reboot came about! Whew chile, just goes to show how strong our manifestation for the comeback was😤💕!! Anyways, I hope they do a good job on this comeback. They better not let our faith in this down lol.
I think if they brought the show back to the og production process (junior high and high that used age-appropriate, self-styling, and script discussion) would be so cool to see again

Whatever it takes, I know we'll make it through. All of your videos have become comfort videos for me as I prepare for college, so just thank for all the content you make
I've got to say that Degrassi going on to HBO Max makes me EXTREMELY nervous. Degrassi although dealing with traumatic topics also brought this innocence to those topics and from what I've watched on HBO Max I feel like it will not fit as well on that brand. I am trying to be hopeful that we will see almost a mixture of the innocent feeling that next gen had mixed with the production value that HBO brings to bring a Degrassi that fits for both the original viewers and a new generation looking for a show that makes them feel less alone. I love the idea of Mr. Simpson being the principal and Marco being a teacher but I want to throw out one additional idea. Bring Spinner back as the general manager/owner of The Dot. I feel like it makes a lot of sense for there to be an additional place for the cast to hang out outside of school and Spinner could have a mentorship to one of the students who works there. I LOVE your idea of a parallel series that follows the other characters. Especially since there are soooo many characters that could last forever. I feel like it could almost feel like when MTV was kicking off Teen Mom OG and they did those one-hour specials on each of the Teen Moms but instead of kicking into a new series it gives you an update on these characters because I personally want more closure. Or even doing mini class reunion movies so each class comes back for like TV movie-style episode/special set in the present time that shows where they are. I hope that Degrassi cast like 15-18 year olds who are nobodys. I think that's such a big part of what helps Degrassi's vibe. I do plan to give the new Degrassi a try when it comes out and if it doesn't hit the mark well I'll just keep watching the next generation on a loop.
As a Canadian I also hope that they keep a Canadian cast (though I could be too hopeful). Degrassi was probably the one show that was somewhat known outside of Canada lol. It was a big stepping stone since it was a popular franchise that cycled through many characters, so a lot of young Canadian youths had the chance to be on it. If you live in Toronto, you probably know at least one person who was on it or auditioned for it lol
It will def be Canadian, the production company is Canadian. Also I think this is HBO reacting to the new cancon laws for streaming services, Amazon also rebooted Kids in the Hall for the same reasons.
ive never seen degrassi but i like rewatching your video about it, so yesterday when the news got out about the new season i immediately thought of you, lmao. its funny so many people thought the same. love your channel!
something that ive been thinking that i havent seen anyone mention yet - i really hope they dont cast already established actors. a big part of degrassi for me was the no-name child actors, or actors who havent rlly been n anything noteworthy. im terrified that theres gonna be alot of netflix actors and such cast in major roles for this reboot, and that would take away from the real charm of degrassi
Very excited for this reboot. As skeptical as I am of the degree to which HBO will HBO all over themselves in making this thing, I'm honestly just glad to be getting more Degrassi content after four years of uncertainty. Also very glad Schuyler and Stohn passed the torch to a new production team -- as much as I love and respect their contribution and involvement with the series, I feel a younger team of creatives at the head of this show will help to keep it from feeling so out of touch. Here's hoping the newbies can find a way to thread the needle between the 80s after-school special-esque tone of early TNG and the down-to-Earth nature of the series without straying too far into the gimmicky, sensationalized Euphoria/Riverdale territory 🤞🤞
I would love to see some of the cast from TNG come back to play parents of new students. I feel that this would be the most organic way to integrate some of the actors, like the show did with Spike and Joey. As for moving the show to HBO, I have the same fear you do about how the platform handles teen shows. Fingers crossed that they'll keep true to the spirit of Degrassi, and also that they won't hire adults to play teens.
I really hope the new show runners are watching this video. It’s really important to me that this reboot speaks to my generation. I’m scared that of they cast actors who aren’t adults they might dumb the show down like next class. I really hope the writers do their research on today’s teens and make sure they are in touch with them. I hope they don’t do the whole cringy slang and social media thing like they did in Next Class. And I would really like if the writers kept up with recent fashion trends like they did in Next Generation. It’s really important that this reboot has the right amount of maturity. I hope the writers don’t make this show for adults. I hope this show can fix the diversity problem. I feel many poc characters were terribly written or copy and paste of other characters. Black female characters were terribly written. I really don’t wanna see forced diversity or half assed tokenism. Lastly, It’s really important that the writers don’t talk down to the audience.
It'll come back some day and when it does, I'd like to see a polished version of Junior High/DH with an overall opening theme but just relevant actor credits at the end and have certain characters being completely absent for several episodes at a time like it was in the old days. Rather than focus on the same twelve kids who orbit every story, go back to a 30 kid deep cast and just use certain groups in certain episodes. Overlap is okay sometimes, it happens, but I always thought a more realistic portrayal was that some kids would just never be in the same place at the same time. Make the show about the HiGH SCHOOL, not one or two friend groups in one or two grades. That's what every other teen show is and I liked how Degrassi stuck out because when you're favourites get their own story or even seeing someone as just an extra walk by in the hall, you get excited. And remix that old DJH opening theme song. That shit still slaps 😜!
the sayonara miles hollingsworth was the best ending of a video I've seen in a while. I hope they bring back song titles for episodes but from the early 2000s also to match the tone comment I still hope for degrassi to be undeniably canadian
Thats why I think this reboot isn't gonna be good because in Degrassi TNG after season 12 when the kids who were also in Next class came in 13 it made the show boring and trash and I got tired of them bringing new kids
I have a feeling one of the characters could end up being Emma’s younger brother (forgot his name). Based on when in the seasons he was born (I think maybe season 5 or 6 which means 2005 or 2006 can’t remember correct me if I’m wrong) right now in present day he would of high school age EDIT: just looked it up apparently he was born in 2003 making him 19
i had the same concern when i saw that the reboot was going to be on HBO Max, like i also am a bit worried that the show would be too mature and HBO would cast adults as the teens but i'll wait and see i would actually love if this reboot doesn't consider next class canon LMAO
Ackk! You’re the one giving me the news that Degrassi is coming back. Honestly, I’ve seen every episode and the nostalgia factor is strong. I’m pretty open minded for whatever, but I desperately want to see an Indigenous character and an asexual character! When I noticed that they hadn’t had an indigenous character all 14 seasons I got a little mad? Like, it was a Canadian show how could they miss that story line. And I still haven’t seen an asexual character in a teen show. I’m still salty with Riverdale for making Jughead allo. Such a missed opportunity. While this is what I want to see. I’m not optimistic about it. I’ll still watch the show regardless tho.
I'm so excited but my biggest worry is that they're going to hire at least one well-known actor from Hollywood, I hope they stay with an age-appropriate, unknown cast. Also, I know that it isn't an in-your-face Canadian show, but it does take place in Toronto so I hope the Canadian-isms are still there.
YES FINALLY youre the only other person ive seen who mentions that casting point,, im terrified that theres gonna be a heap of netflix-esque child actors and it would lose the degrassi charm of casting no-name kids
Having not heard your thoughts on Next Class I'm so happy we agree. YES!! NOBODY ASKED FOR A PERRY MASON REBOOT! THANK YOU! My hopes for The Future: - Definitely want Marco back as a teacher! And of course Snake. Maybe Spence back at The Dot? He seemed like he was in a good place there (before Emma came along). And maybe if there are still any recognizable teachers - keep 'em? Lots of teachers stick around to the same school for a long time. -And you know what? I wanna see freakin' Terri return. I loved her, and was sad to see her go (thanks, Rick). - 100% (no no, 150%!!) want a same-sex couple where, if one of them is NOT out to their parents, their partner does NOT try to push them to come out to them. Like, bring it up, sure, that's fine, but holy crap, Dylan, Zane, Imogen... back off - their coming out story is not a part of YOUR coming out story, not everyone is safe to do that, and some people are okay with not rocking the dynamic of their parental relationship. You don't HAVE to interact with their parents. - Less Christianity-driven characters/plots and more diverse religions? - Winter. - BIPOC characters who are well-written!! I have an essay of problems with the BIPOC characters who got the shaft in the show (you noticed it, I noticed it... all the worst stuff seems to happen to these characters, if anything happens at all, and if not, they're just not likeable; I think the only one who got any real depth & drawn-out personal growth was Allie).
i'm not too worried about the tone. hbo max did a great job with generation which in general was a comedy but it also tackled some heavy topics with nuisance. i am worried about the reboot being too self-aware and winking at the camera a little too much...
it definitely worries me that theyre going to turn degrassi into riverdale. degrassi has such a reputation, and a certain aura around the series. if they were to take it and turn into a gritty, sexual show with extremely heavy themes beyond what the original series has ever dealt with, it would ruin what degrassi is and represents. and i really hope they stick with keeping actors of an appropriate age to play the cast. i dont want to see 30 year olds playing 15 year olds.

I agree. The hallways of Next Class looked like a Disney sitcom set and NOT a real school. Cheap and bad/bright lighting. Hated it!

I think that may be the one thing HBO will understand, hopefully, it's the part about degrassi that even non-fans and the media always talked about.
i saw the casting calls. i remember they said they needed 14+ actors/actresses.

My hope is that they learn from their mistakes. No more cramming 100 consecutive traumatic storylines into one person (coughclairecough). Stop making characters act unlike themselves for the sake of drama (Eli calling Claire a bitch, Spemma, Declan and Jane)... So much.
Declan and Jane made sense imo

I think the best way to make degrassi gritty but not overly so is to only include swearing, and no nudity like in euphoria. It would be more realistic to the average high schooler and still edgy like hbos other shows. and since degrassi did use the first f word (fuck) on Canadian television in the 80s I think it would be so awesome a fun little parallel to the og series
very true! at the very least just one epic f-bomb as an homage to School's Out lmao
i need snake's son, mia's daughter and the baby liberty gave up for adoption to be in the new cast of students - an homage to next generation and emma being the child of a character from the previous iteration
U read my mind
In universe, snake's son would be 20 and izzy would be 19 in 2023, although liberty's child would be around 18 so she could probably have a season. Jenna and KC's kid would be about 12 tho so in a few seasons 👀
Oh ok, that would be so cool
Hope we get actors of an appropriate age along with them being diverse.

I hope Marco has a boyfriend that treats him right. Have we had a openly gay teacher on degrassi I can't remember. He could also be the one in charge of the lgbt+ club and share his experience coming out 20 year's ago.
I just need to see him with anyone other than Dylan!!

I think they should bring Craig back so he and Marco can get the epic romance viewers deserved.
Edit: adding an actually fully written play cause I’m rewatching “The Ultimately Degrassi Video” and the music section mentioned how the plays usually have like one or two songs.
so when in doubt you kiss craig??
They honestly should, and it can start off with them meeting at a reunion
I keep seeing this comment. Did I miss something? I have no recollection of any Marco/Craig sexual tension or even Marco being into Craig. I stopped watching once the original characters weren’t on anymore. Did they come back in newer episodes? It’s also been years since I’ve seen
@@roseyp7047 ua-cam.com/video/QY7NHgFFI5M/v-deo.html
All I want is for Craigo to be a thing. Marco and Craig were robbed of being a couple
TRUE. Canonize bisexual Craig!
When in doubt… blah blah blah

Over the past year Degrassi-tube has become a weirdly popular genre. Compilation videos, tier lists and a dedicated fanbase of Degrassi-storians than ever before. We should all be proud of this, but especially you! Great vid!
Once I catch up I'll sure be going in deep in alot of Degrassi videos
As a teenager it was super comforting to see teens on TV that actually looked like me instead of hot twenty something models.. also i rlly hope they dont take it off tubi 😔
hope the show is exclusively about toby
now THIS guy gets it
I want the Spemma divorced to happen not only for Semma but also for Spinner and Terri. I shipped them so hard and they should be together.
YES I will never forgive Degrassi for abandoning the Spinner/Terri thing!!
YEZZ. I need this because I loved Terri then she was gone after that Rick Disaster!!!
when semma and craco get the snake and spike style fan service endgame >>>
also i totally agree about the theme song thing!
I was going to make Grand Army my Degrassi Spiritual successor then it was cancelled.
grand army deserved so many more seasons omg
Yeah I hope they go the same direction they did with Generation Plus, which also should have lasted longer R.I.P😭
I loved Grand Army so much--they had some amazing and real stories. Ppl keep comparing Euphoria to Degrassi and I just dont see it. They are nothing alike.
Grand Army was way more a successor and what a surprise... Netflix cancelled it!
The reboot is under the HBO Max family brand technically so it’s gonna be more of the same vibe I think
oooh interesting... that definitely would make me feel better!
Yes I agree. Degrassi tackled hard topics without glamorizing the toxicity. Euphoria is cool but is slightly dangerous.

PLEASE let's manifest it 😌✨
As long as it keeps that same charm, I'll be okay.
In my personal opinion,, I think TNG intro theme song frm season 5 up until season 10 is the corniest. I would just skip thru it😒

watching this after Degrassi was taken off of UA-cam :( and I was only on season 11
im really hoping hbo max sticks with the soapy ensemble vibe degrassi has, while just making it less cringey. covering serious/controversial issues but having so many different people all with different issues is what makes the show so memorable for me. there was constantly something new and usually serious going on, but sometimes the writing is too campy for the topics.
im also hoping they do a season a school year and release them once a week, it just flows better that way imo
As a Degrassi lover since Degrassi Junior High and beyond, I was pleasantly surprised that I agree with you. I'm really hopeful that they don't ruin this opportunity for us to potentially get some good new Degrassi content! Fingers crossed sister!
ABSOLUTELY AGREE about keeping the tone of the show. I’m worried about Linda and Stephen not being involved
The Saved By the Bell reboot on peacock is a good example of combining the nostalgia and old storylines with a new generation really well!!!
the reboot was announced like a day after i finished all of TNG & next class and was in the throes of post-series depression, so i absolutely relate to the butterflies :') thanks for your thoughtful and quality content on degrassi!
idk if youve watched degrassi junior high or degrassi high, but you really should IMO, I watched it and it can be pretty great, you'll probably notice that TNG drew a lot of inspiration from those shows when it comes to story lines and honestly it's fun to see what happened to the adults in TNG before they were the adults
Of course, now with the HBOMAX/WB/DISCOVERY, et al, hubbub and cancellations, Degrassi meets an obstacle in returning from the grave... :(
One thing I would LOVE to see: is the background music and musical stings/ effects for dramatic moments that next gen had. Love it, and I’m here for it. It’ll totally set the tone.
YES actually I so agree!!
I really think it’s fair only if they bring back Marco as the new “Mr.Simpson”
Either way I’m nervous but also looking forward too seeing what happens..this is HBO Max so I think maybe more mature more layered characters.
I watched your degrassi video 3 days ago.... watched season 5-8 in 3 days and then instantly saw the news................ you manifested this
that's what I'm choosing to believe 😂
it's me, chortling like a buffoon every time you say "it goes there"
Completely agree with everything you said!!
Also I loathe the GG reboot, it's... boring and exhausting, simultaneously
exactly, I can handle them modernizing it a little bit, but if it becomes exploitative like 13RW I'm gonna lose it
@@jane-mulcahy yes, exactly! I remember how well they handled Cam's suicide (and Maya's attempt in NC, it was honestly the arc they did best in all of NC, IMO) and I just don't want that/other serious topics to be exploited in any way
Marco killed it when he made his come back as a teacher. He'd be a great teacher, just to have a legacy character featured.
i looked it up and the only episode the new showrunners worked on was the one where alli cyberbullies holly j LMAO
oh no now im scared for the fate of this reboot lmao
They better keep degrassi on UA-cam >:’(( I’m already rewatching literally every season I grew up watching lol. Also it’s kinda wild how I got the feeling to start rewatching the show for the billionth time just a few days ago and then the news about the reboot came about! Whew chile, just goes to show how strong our manifestation for the comeback was😤💕!! Anyways, I hope they do a good job on this comeback. They better not let our faith in this down lol.
I drop into episodes of Degrassi occasionally just to make sure that it goes there. Your final prediction is perfect.
I think if they brought the show back to the og production process (junior high and high that used age-appropriate, self-styling, and script discussion) would be so cool to see again
the way i just finished ur other degrassi vid and saw THIS ON MY FEED?????!!? i loved ur other vid btw non-canadian stans of niche canadian 90s dramas unite
Degrassi should not be handled by the same people that did Euphoria. Euphoria makes me so mad.
That's one of my fears that they try and make it Candian Euphoria.....
Whatever it takes, I know we'll make it through. All of your videos have become comfort videos for me as I prepare for college, so just thank for all the content you make
the fact that stefan brogren hasn't tweeted about it yet tells me he's involved. im like, 95% sure
agreed!
Yesss I hope that the reboot still has the lessons learned/resolutions to issues. That's what make Degrassi DEGRASSI
I was like “Change the theme song!?!” And then you effortlessly convinced me.
I’m totally on the fence for changing it or not 😂😭 im so torn
I think modernizing it would be one way.
Lastly, It’s really important that the writers don’t talk down to the audience.
whatever it takes i know you gonna make it through
… lowkey want miles as an english teacher. i know he’s unpopular, but id love to see him thrive
i wanna see eli as an eccentric drama teacher
that's a good idea, but tbh I also see him becoming a famous and pretentious film director lolol
I absolutely GASPED when I saw this title!
The timing of UA-cam recommending me this after the reboot was cancelled is too ironic
the fact i was enjoying rewatching ur last degrassi essay as of last night. it’s crazy how this news popped up on my recommended with ur side.
PLEASE WE NEED SONG TITLES FOR EPISODES !! tbh not using song titles for the episodes was the first red flag abt next class
the thing with adult drama episodes is that adult drama is boring. It's all serious stuff like divorce or money. There's no drama in that
Degrassi would’ve kept going if “Next Class” wasn’t so garbage. I’m excited for the reboot as long as it’s not like next class
Thats why I think this reboot isn't gonna be good because in Degrassi TNG after season 12 when the kids who were also in Next class came in 13 it made the show boring and trash and I got tired of them bringing new kids
but.. didnt they have to do next class because next gen was canceled???
Next class was canceled because Netflix ended it. Not because it was trash. It’s just the production was sold
I have a feeling one of the characters could end up being Emma’s younger brother (forgot his name). Based on when in the seasons he was born (I think maybe season 5 or 6 which means 2005 or 2006 can’t remember correct me if I’m wrong) right now in present day he would of high school age
EDIT: just looked it up apparently he was born in 2003 making him 19
yeah i think Jack is a bit too old
Maybe Emma and spinners kids, liberty and jts kid..
I want to see Liberty and JT’s son and Mia’s daughter on the new show
oh my god i sent that message to you :,) this news has rocked my world
Elisa you were truly the catalyst 😂
i had the same concern when i saw that the reboot was going to be on HBO Max, like i also am a bit worried that the show would be too mature and HBO would cast adults as the teens but i'll wait and see
i would actually love if this reboot doesn't consider next class canon LMAO
I’ll still watch the show regardless tho.

every time you upload it makes me so glad that your degrassi video showed up in my recommendations
It's not to late to redeem themselves!!! We can still have Craig and Marco!!! #crarco5ever
Darn UA-cam didn’t Notify me 🤦🏽♂️ I’m just now seeing you uploaded this
Having not heard your thoughts on Next Class I'm so happy we agree. I absolutely love your videos and we agree on basically everything and you even bring some things to my attention that I wouldn't have thought of. I definitely think they're going to retcon Next Class and I'm fine witg it. Keep doing update videos like this as news comes in please 🙏
Very sad to hear about the reboot loosing its foothold in development; maybe one day we shall finally see the fruits of their (the developers) labors.
YES!! NOBODY ASKED FOR A PERRY MASON REBOOT! THANK YOU!
My hopes for The Future:
- Definitely want Marco back as a teacher!
Totally agree with all of this! Thank you for dedicating all this time at work watching my videos 😂
I'd like to see what happened to Manny and Jay.
i'm not too worried about the tone. hbo max did a great job with generation which in general was a comedy but it also tackled some heavy topics with nuisance. i am worried about the reboot being too self-aware and winking at the camera a little too much...
I saw the insta post yesterday when I opened it up and I was shocked. Like, I was hoping for so long and am genuinely happy it’s coming back!
