    I think it's also good to mention that although both are tagged horror, only one can actively take advantage of that (DBD). This is mainly due to the fact that IDV is based in China and has to follow their guidelines for all games, which is also why you can see some differences between both the NA/EU servers and the China server (that being what skins are available, the hunter's weapons, crossovers and more).
    DBD is based in the United States where regulations about horror is much more lax and theoretically more "fair" over all servers.

    I wish more dbd players could look past the rough edges and camping of idv, because its not the end of the world.
    Playing dbd for over 7 years, and Idv for a little over a year now, Im honestly enjoying IDV much more now.
    Also yes, costumes are EXPENSIVE on idv, but earning characters free on idv takes way less time than DBD, which is the more important part than looking pretty.
    AND there are trial cards so you can actually try a character before you put all your time into one.
    Dbd deleted theirs (on the main game) just because you could earn them free after an insane amount of grinding.

      Look past the camping? Once you get placed in the chair it’s game over and you’re there waiting for the timer to go down before you can move on to the next match. It’s pointless to even try to escape because you’re instantly downed. I wanted to like IDV but the camping on eitther side is boring as fck.

    • @FellChalut
      @FellChalut Місяць тому +16

      @@JohnDoe-my8kj I understand how camping can be frowned upon, but it's one of the main differences between the games. In IDV you kinda "need" to camp in order to win. In DBD if you do so, you'll likely lose. There's even hunters/killers that specialize in camping, it's just a core element of the game and even tournaments, unless you play a hunter who isn't affected by camping.

    • @mika-ym4ch
      @mika-ym4ch Місяць тому +9

      @@JohnDoe-my8kj rebound kite is a very real thing in idv, seeing it as "pointless" will inevitably cost you and your team a match, and you *will* be called out after the match ends. As a survivor you are expected to rebound kite and waste as much of the hunter's time as possible. You HAVE to have 3 or more survivors escape in order to win, and everything is build around it. If you get downed instantly after you got rescued, the issue is: 1) you or 2) the rescuer

    There's a lot of little mechanics that make both games feel so different too. Killers can't be stunned until the end of their pick up animation in dbd encouraging precise timing while in idv you're encouraged to stun as soon as they start the animation. In dbd the speed boost you get from being hit is more important than the fast attack recovery animation while in idv it's the exact opposite. In dbd you have to learn how to hit windows from certain angles to get fast vaults and some of them can be genuinely challenging and part of the skill gap while identity v wants to keep that part easier to have the skillful parts of chase be how you interact with the hunter. Pallets are more forgiving for hits in dbd but stun for less time, if you fall off of something in idv you immediately lose all momentum and fall straight down unlike dbd having you fly over pallets. The two are so different in so many ways that couldn't ever be fit in this video but I'm glad it was made because it's well educated and provides a really neutral and insightful experience.

    I've played both extensively. I prefer DBD simply because the meta isn't camp/tunnel. I'm sorry but as a survivor I just don't enjoy getting camped and tunneled and I realize killers have to do that in IDV to win, but that's what sucks.
    In DBD, while camping and tunneling does still happen, it's pretty rare for me, and isn't required to secure a win. That alone made me steer away from IDV over time. Of course both games still have their own pros and cons, but the camping just drains the fun for me, especially if you aren't good at kiting.

    I like the scaling powers of IDV. The premise of this style of game is “either do a lotta damage fast, or stall long enough to wear them down”. Tempo should be in the hunters’ hands and they should be rewarded with the ability to close out games fairly well. My favorite character was the gamekeeper, the double-minigame of the hook aim and followup swing is rather thrilling, plus he looks and sounds cool. I enjoyed my time in IDV whereas my 8 hours of dbd yielded only bad vibes and broken friendships, but if i were to try DBD again, i’d play oni, because his design philosophy is so similar to IDV.

  • @kamisatooov28
    @kamisatooov28 Місяць тому +9

    I kinda hate it when some people try to turn down idv by comparing it to dbd. It took inspiration (basically stollen everything lol), but overtime they changed everything, so now both games give you different experiences. Idv isn't a horror game for like 5 years now, it's more about gothic and edgy style, which allows all those skins to just exist there. Camping is a strategy in idv, mainly because both hunters and survivors have perks and abilities to perform camp/counter it. Also the fact, that survivors in idv all have different mechanics is great and makes the idea of playing survivors more interesting and diverse, you main a character, not a build for a character. Also some of idv mechanics are way more interesting than just "press this button to perform a special hit", idv have some shit like Photographer, who destroys survs by downing thier copies in another dimension (If I remember correctly, Demogorgon in dbd also uses another dimension, but more for the sake of fast travel)
    I like how you can find a character with basically any type of gameplay, that you may theoretically like.
    I kinda believe the games to be equal, maybe dbd is a bit better because of the fact that it isn't a mobile transaction-driven game, but still
    P.s. I also think idv skins are so much more creative and pretty, and you still can get mos of them while being f2p like🥱

    I play both versions in pc and mobile. I have made a breakdown of my thoughts on the matter.
    IDV- 1v4. Faster and much synchronized matches. Role based gameplay with tons of characters to chose from. Better cosmetics and events. Ranking is harder and there is even a leaderboard for every character which is reflected through badges. All characters are accessible. Both factions are very ruthless and, chases, despite being framed as simple is very complex. There are multiple gamemodes outside of 1v4. Strongest hunters: Sangria, Ivy, and Ann. Meta hunters change every now and then. Not long ago Gamekeeper was a staple in the recent IVs, and back then it was Galatea, BQ, and Dreamwitch. There is also a successful e-sports scene and right now the IVCs of SEA is ongoing.
    In idv, survs will get mad at each other for over 1 mistake, 1 rank point.
    DBD- 1v 1+1+1+1. Long run matches. Hundreds of perks that allow for diverse gameplay. Better collabs but arguably some DLCs create a paywall. Hitting red ranks means nothing and is farmable. Chases, despite being framed as complex is actually pretty simple in its core. Just added 2v8. Very diverse hunters with the strongest killers being: nurse, spirit, and blight. There has not been much of a change in the killer meta which is insane since Sally was released back in 2016. But to think of it, anything stronger than nurse might break the game. Lastly, let us not talk about dbd's very poor (and kinda sad) attempt at entering e-sports.
    In dbd, survs will just be happy as long as they escape and get mad at the hunter for breathing the wrong way.

    • @mooedy
      @mooedy 27 днів тому

      And additionally it is ironic in idv: despite the winning mechanics requiring survs to work and escape as a team, survivors are very cutthroat. I have been forsaken by my teammates for not being able to kite the hunter beyond 60 seconds and the amount of toxicity survs get for not even doing well in kites or for making 1 mistake is insane.
      In dbd, on the other hand, with the "you win if you escape" mechanics has the most altruistic surv mains who would not hestitate to save you and fight for your very life even if you lasted 10 seconds in chase, just for the bloodpoints.

    As an old dbd veteran (found out and started playing in 2016, actively since end of 2017, even tho i have 2k+ hours) as long i can say i don't regret moving from it to idv. For this 6,5 years of playing dbd i started feeling only exhaustion and repetitiveness on top with very toxic community, bad releases and unhealthy balancing route devs went with the game. I can sound delusional or clueless about idv compare to veterans of this game, but comparing it to dbd for me i never felt so relieved and interested to play it than dbd: deeper and interesting lore to dig into, much more gamemodes which i enjoyed (while dbd finally made something after 7 years of existence for 2 weeks and it was dogshit (yes im talking to you lights out), plus the gameplay and meta itself based around interaction between each character upsides and downsides, which catched my eye way back in 2018.... Sadly because of over popularity i played only around 9 hours in total back in season 0/1 and only half a year ago came back into idv thanks to my friend. I am not gonna say that idv is better than dbd (joseph and Philippe are still there) - both games have something that can give them upper hand in some debate points, and you can be a fan of them no matter what. Just try to enjoy it and don't take anything personal - it will just make everything worse

I'm probably just biased because I started with it first, and I like the gore and atmosphere a little more. That's it though. Both games have their pros and cons, and are great in their own unique ways despite sharing the similar premise. The communties of dbd and idv really bring down the game at times unfortunately, but i love and recommend both and wish people would stop being obnoxious about which is better :)

    If you have 20 dollars, get dead by daylight, though expect to spend more money on the game. I think dead by daylight is generally a better horror game because you can actually sometimes get scared, even though that’s very rare and only happens within your first 10 survivor games. But that doesn’t matter the most, becuase they’re both pretty much party games, but mechanically, I think dead by daylight is better. Not talking about the horror aspect, though it would be nice if identity v returned its darker maps clowns chainsaws rippers fog and carry animation and the ability which lets you hide your terror radius, I think dead by daylight is better because of the fact it provides a lot of personalization via perks, some very cool ones like the new mirrored image, and other cools ones like deception diversion red herring etc, and also add ons which allow you to change the effect of every item and every killers power. You can use this personalization to completely change the way your killer or survivor is played and change the way the match will go entirely.

    I moved to dbd from idv after four years of playing or so...
    Personally! I wouldn't say idv is "less serious" because all modes have comp conditions of winning, while dbd openly refuses to make the game comp. Dbd games reward you per actions and not per a match's result. I get more crap from idv players after lost games than from dbd players, and in dbd saying "gg" isn't considered a crime against humanity.
    Lobby dodging is a gift from some higher force.. Thank you dbd. This goes to idv hunter players who get stressed when they get matched with players who are higher rank than them. People mostly focus on grinding points.
    Dbd's writing is booty at times (hillbilly's backstory is basically spawning policemen over and over again lmao, wraith has a shock value fest, nurse became ableist, and huntess is the epitome of "westerner imagining a slavic"). Idv's is also (fire and twins for everyone, don't get me started on experiments). They're twinning. But dbd is more magical, while idv is more science-y and vague.
    Dbd has also a battle pass. You pay like 10$ or so? And you gain it back with 10+ skins (few recolors, but rarely for basic fit) so you can use it again. With current update they added iridescent shards to bp, which is the currency used to buy characters and cosmetics.
    Dbd is also openly against fomo and makes changes in itself to prevent it, while idv's fomo is extremely toxic.
    Idv has more modes which is neat, but dbd is testing them currently. Their approach to 2vs8 is different, there was a mode with random perks, there was lights out, anniversary mode with a lot of random things happening, and uh my little oni where oni stepped on us. In idv most modes are perm, I think only one is on rotation for halloween?
    Idv has more creativity with survivors (can't say the same about hunters, there's so many geishas in diff fonts) but dbd has much more creativity with builds. And as an individual, you don't feel so forced to play meta. There's also no "walking target" sign glued to your back based on the survivor you play because you can specialize in anything no matter the character.
    Oh builds. Idv feel like museum of old dbd. I really wish there was more versatility, because going for the persona tree is like shooting your own foot. There's nearly nothing interesting, just numbers.
    Also matchmaking is more or less individual for each killer, so you shouldn't get some super comp tryhards while trying out a new character.
    You're also not encouraged to camp in dbd. A bunch of good killer perks requires you to spread hooks. And honestly bless this, camping discouraged me from playing hunter because what is fun in standing next to the chair. Idk as killer I feel like I have more control over the match. And I play weak ones like ghostface. Fun fact in dbd instant downs don't mean a killer is op. Unless it's Billy.
    Most dbd skins come in 3 pieces so you can mix and match.
    What I have against dbd is that a lot of perks are locked behind paywalls. Yes, you can wait for them to appear in shrine (every week 2 perks for killers and 2 for survivors appear there & you can buy them for iri shards), but it's never guaranteed that the thing you want will be there. To have versatility for my ghostface, I "had to" get 4 paid dlcs and few more grindable characters.
    Devs of dbd are also more open to communication with players, but it feels like a very recent trend?
    However dbd attracts a very toxic audience so here's that. In the past, there were instances of harassing players who had charms with pride flags. It doesn't really happen anymore though. Speaking of which, there are some canonically queer characters, but unfortunately only two originals (Susie and David, implied Yui, Sable and Mikaela).
    You know how you can turn off autoaim in idv? Yeah you can't in dbd. Wish we could because it's so stupid. I'm right behind a survivor? Doesn't matter, my killer hits a random object to my very left.
    You don't like photographer games because they're too long? Oh boy do I have fun guys for you. Skull merchant, singularity and knight are here to drag your game for an hour, or at least until the servers crash!
    Dbd is always bug filled, there were at least five separate bugs on Wesker.
    Tbh if your main gaming device is a phone, I'd go for idv. If you have some console or pc and you can afford it - dbd. There's a lot to learn in both games because both are quite old.
    Also for idvers
    Killer most similar to opera is C tier. One similar to geisha is S. One similar to smiley is S. One similar to hell ember is solid B. Hey, at least ripper is bad in both games, right. I hope I made at least one person go "WHAT"
    Btw, I came here because I saw the post. I hope I gave some civilised feedback while being more dbd-leaning. These games are basically sisters in a difficult situation, and they shouldn't be fighting. Have fun guys and don't be mean towards others, no matter what game they're playing. It's not that serious.

    3:17 dbd does not punish you at all for going for a single player, it is the best current strategy to win, reason why all competitve matches rely on tunneling one person first, simply because survivors are too good. although in competitive settings, the selfunhook mechanic is not allowed, in official matchmaking it can be avoided easily and wont be much of a problem if they do get unhooked.
    dbd mmr mechanic is based on kills not hooks. people who go and chase different get punish by the system.
    1kill= dont lose as much mmr
    2kills= no gain nor lose mmr
    3kills= gain a little bit of mmr
    4kills= gain more mmr
    and even worse as a survivor it is all based on just escaping the exit gates, if u escape via the hatch you dont lose nor gain mmr.

Tho it's slowly losing that too with dbd mobile getting realsed to china and it quickly growing (normal dbd is not available in china due to censorship) but even with china being included I think dbd still has a bigger playerbase and overall is a bigger game, it's getting 2 spin-off games (one a coop shooter the other a story game from the creators of Until down) it's getting a full on movie made by Blumhouse etc
