It took me days, but I finally figured it out. Soyeons dilema: How do I make a fun, silly, and dumb song that is totally off brand for (G)I-dle? Answer: Set the song in campy Y2k movie universe then say it was all a dream. Tons of pop culture references in both videos. Allergy sets us up with our Y2K movie universe theme using the common Y2K trope of ugly girl (actually pretty girl with glasses, mussed hair, and baggy clothes) wishes she was pretty and popular like the other girls. She tries and fails a couple times but eventually she takes off her glasses and fixes her hair and gets cool clothes and becomes a popular/pretty girl. Then she learns that being pretty and popular isn't so great after all, so she goes back to being a normal girl but now, after seeing that the grass isn't necessarily greener on the other side, she is happy just being herself. The end. In "Allergy" the answer is plastic surgery instead of removing glass, ect... At the end of "Allergy" we see Soyeon about to go under anesthesia for her procedures that will make her pretty and popular. In "Queencard", we pick up at the point where the doctors are applying the anesthesia. Now we're in a drug induced dream world where Soyeon is living the life of a popular/pretty girl. The lyric "I'm a quinka" repeats over and over. ("Quinka" or Queenca" is Korean slang from Y2K meaning "popular girl" or "it girl") In her dream, Soyeon is a "Queenca". Her English lyrics that were actually pretty good in "Allergy" are now all drunken and comically bad (I mean, they are purposefully bad). The scenes are chaotic and wild, they rewind, backgrounds are blurry, they intermix the doctors who are standing around her as doing dance moves, the group members faces change into other members. We see more tropey Y2K movie scenes. Girl looks hot with wet hair as she emerges from the swimming pool. Dance battle at the club. All campy movie tropes. Finally, in the ending chorus of the song, the group is dancing in the hospital (reality is getting closer to her as she regains consciousness). The lyrics "Wearing whatever girl - Queencard", "Thick or thin girl - Queencard", "Full of confidence girl - Queencard". We see Miyeon leaning over her as she wakes up telling her (paraphrasing) "this is what it means to be a Queencard". Soyeon pops awake before the plastic surgery and leaves the hospital. She is now confident that she is a "Queenca" and we can see it in the way she walks, holds her shoulders back, and the expression on her face. (great acting by the way to go from frumpy and unconfident to beautiful and confident without changing anything about her make-up or clothes). This was the common Y2K movie trope of "it was all just a dream". but then we get another trope from those times when Soyeon starts getting likes and follows on an insta photo that seems to be from the dream. it's the "it was all just a dream - or was it?!?!" trope that was pretty common in Y2K movies also. So, Soyeon got to have her fun, silly, dumb bop without it changing the groups brand... or did it?!?!? Pure genius.
YESSSSSSSS! This is exactly the analysis my brain needed cuz this is the PERFECT breakdown!!!! Omg, thank you for your hard work and mental labour! 😅 I'm pinning this comment! This whole thing is so brilliant, from all the obvious Y2K tropes to the way she created the whole "dream" mood with visuals, musical elements, lyrics, everything! And the clear storyline that was soooooooo cliche and overdone in that era (but I high-key love it cuz... nostalgia). Ugh, I love everything about this.
girl all of this just to jusify the fact that soyeon has no clue how to naturally use english lyrics/slang. she needs to just stop. their all korean songs were great

Kwinka was shortened from kwinkadeu, which is literally Queencard. It seems that couple of decades ago the Koreans used to present a literal queen card and a king card to what would in US be like prom king and prom queen. They didn't use Queencard to sound the same, it is literally that word (but with the added cultural context).

I feel Soyeon wrote these songs in relation to her earlier days. Before (G)I-DLE she struggle a lot with her looks because the public constantly called her ugly so she began to believe it and honestly thought she was ugly. But when she started to accept herself and become more comfortable and confident in herself and her looks, believing herself to be beautiful, others began to accept her and call her beautiful as well.
But I thought I read she got surgery done, Im not trying to trash talk here I just like to make sure I dont have wrong information. I remember thinking how I feel like she use to look different but I wasnt sure if it was change in make up so I tried searching it up.
@@chrissy9438 Nope. She never had any plastic surgery done. It’s all makeup. She looks the same as to her childhood photo when she’s not wearing any makeup.
“The core message of ‘Queencard’ is that you can be a beautiful person if you adore yourself,” the group’s leader, Soyeon, said. “And if you adore yourself, others will adore you. I hope a lot of people can feel this with our new music.” According to Soyeon, “Queencard” can be thought of as a comedy movie with a retro vibe. “The 2018 American comedy film I Feel Pretty inspired me a lot,” Soyeon explained. “So far, I think we have attempted to give some lessons to people through our albums and music videos, but this time, we included more comical, humorous and entertaining elements.”
I love this message so much!! And I love that they chose to do it in such a fun & silly way. You can't ignore it, but then that forces you to talk about these things!
Queencard is based on the movie I Feel Pretty from 2018 (their debut year). Soyeon said to not take the song too seriously. She said that they have done serious songs in the past and would like to make something more fun and comical. It's a satire actually. They are making fun of the beauty standards while also pushing for body positivity. You can be a queen regardless of how you look like or what body type you have.
As others have stated, this is Soyeon's direct response to the hate she recieved about her looks before she debuted in G-Idle (during and after Produce 101). Things I noticed watching the video a few times is that the story follows Soyeon finding the confidence in herself. You can notice that Soyeon wants to be like Miyeon, basing her plastic surguery on her looks, the constant shifting between Soyeon and Miyeon. Either in the mirror where Miyeon turns into Soyeon, or at the party later in the video where Soyeon takes the place of Miyeon in her clothes and in the dance scenes. However she realizes that she herself is a "Queen Card" no matter what she looks like. Stripping away the desire to fit societal norms of what they think she should look like. Waking up from the surgery, back to her orignal apperance from the Allergy video. Only to realize (from the post on her recent insta" that she is in fact a Queen as she already is. Also I don't know if you noticed but the video is in direct reference to the iconic film White Chicks. Overall a really cool concept with an amazing message
Yes, I really like the use of the visuals switching back and forth between members. It really drove home that this was like... her dream or fantasy. It's funny, cuz they really do all look STUNNING in the 'Queencard' video and it's hard not to notice & comment on it, but then you're like "Wait, that's the point. They are so much more than just looking flashy & pretty!" That's the same thing I thought with the NXDE video, too! They really leaned in to the whole visual aesthetic to point out how much we judge women (esp idols) on physical appearance. BRILLIANT! I didn't notice the White Girls reference until I watched Caitlin Benson's reaction, but I see a lot of specific 2000s-era references all throughout. Love it!
the fact that people really hate on people because of their "lack of beauty" -- like don't be so superficial. Hi! Thank you for sharing this!! Yes, I did get the concept of the MV and I think it's soooo brilliant. (G)I-DLE and Soyeon in particular are so creative and make such important statements on the world & the industry. I love this song and this message!!!
YES! And I even love that balance... you can see in my reaction that my emotions were all over the place, as I was hearing the song and reading the lyrics at the same time. Aghhhh!
I saw some one point (in a comment) out that at the end after she gets the supportive messages, she closes her phone and puts it in her pocket, kinda saying, "I'm not gonna worry about that stuff any more." At first I didn't grab that subtle gesture, but it makes sense in the overall theme. What I wanna know is what was going on between Shuhua and Yuqi? Was that shot of their characteres nearly kissing suppose to mean something?
I really wanted to love Queencard, but I just didn’t. I’m hoping it will grow on me. Right now my favorite (G) I-DLE song for when I need to hype myself up is My Bag.
That's fair! The sound is very different and... niche? I liked it at first and now I CAN'T STOP SINGING IT, so it's even grown on me! But I understand why others wouldn't like it. I haven't heard My Bag yet, though... when did that song come out?
Please React To Blackswan…Recently They Made A Comeback With (THAT KARMA)…They Took The MV In India … You Will Be Feel Proud And Surprised After Saw The Members 😊
Really can't stand people acting like this is a masterpiece. it doesn't have any nuance or subtlety and stops feeling like a parody but more like the thing that it's trying to be parody of. The girls have great tones and the song sonically is great, but the lyrics and message fall flat

Hi! Thank you for sharing this!! Yes, I did get the concept of the MV and I think it's soooo brilliant. (G)I-DLE and Soyeon in particular are so creative and make such important statements on the world & the industry. I love this song and this message!!!
you should react to their killing voice
YES! It's on my list!!!!
THE FIRST TAKE released (G)I-DLE's 'Queencard'
I have heard that SOOJIN (Ex-(G)I-DLE) will debut as a soloist this year
I recommend watching other MVs of them like "Hann", "HWA", "Dumdi Dumdi"
I feel like I might need a (G)I-DLE deep dive at some point!
Allergy sounds very happy but it's about the very dark truth about society today
YES! And I even love that balance... you can see in my reaction that my emotions were all over the place, as I was hearing the song and reading the lyrics at the same time. Aghhhh!

Thank you so much for watching and supporting!!! 💚💚
Popular/hot/sexy Korean girls were being called "Kwinka". It can be applied to the boys.
Alot of other groups sing English songs with Korean lyrics. (G)i-dle songs are Korean songs with English lyrics.
Miss youuuuuuuuu! I just know that you have a new channel. Subscribed! ❤️❤️❤️
Hiiiiii! I'm so glad you're here!!!! Thank you for joining this new journey! 💚
Yeah, I picked up on that and I love that vibe! She's a confident woman!! 😍
That's a good question about Shuhua and Yuqi though haha
I really wanted to love Queencard, but I just didn’t. I’m hoping it will grow on me. Right now my favorite (G) I-DLE song for when I need to hype myself up is My Bag.
That's fair! The sound is very different and... niche? I liked it at first and now I CAN'T STOP SINGING IT, so it's even grown on me! But I understand why others wouldn't like it. I haven't heard My Bag yet, though... when did that song come out?
@@KPopwithKhadija It came out last year! Even if you don’t react to it, you NEED to watch the choreo video. It is 👩🏾🍳 🤌🏾
Please React To Blackswan…Recently They Made A Comeback With (THAT KARMA)…They Took The MV In India … You Will Be Feel Proud And Surprised After Saw The Members 😊
FILMING THAT REACTION TOMORROW! 😉💚
@@KPopwithKhadija awww thanks khadija 💚We love you 😘
I liked allergy but queencard just didn’t hit for me. I understand the significance of the messages but I just wasn’t a fan of the song sonically
Fair enough! I wasn't sure how I felt about it at first, too but.... now I can't stop singing it hahaha
i felt this way...but a couple hours later all i could hear in my head was "im a queencard im a queencard im a im a..." 😳 ridiculously catchy
Really can't stand people acting like this is a masterpiece. it doesn't have any nuance or subtlety and stops feeling like a parody but more like the thing that it's trying to be parody of. The girls have great tones and the song sonically is great, but the lyrics and message fall flat
idk if u caught it but the dance scene in queencard is a refrence to the 'White Chicks' Dance battle scene.. love it
Are u pretty ❤ from Korea guy
💚💚
