@@anjapsag2950 Shortly: "Shum" is "Noise", the song itself has unknown age, can be more than 1000 years easily. The ritual for calling Spring was performed mainly by children, but often adults were joining the dance and singing. When Spring comes the trees start to make Noise (because of the green leaves). It's the time when people can finally enjoy first warm days after long and cold winter. So Noise is basically not a God, but some kind of an allegory. Young girls were going into the forest and collecting young branches from birches, while singing. Then they weaved wreaths from those branches and decorated them with perwinkle flowers (they appear first, even when snow is still there). They played different games, used the wreaths for various things, like foretelling their future love, or making wishes. People said: "Shum now has green coat", so the word "Shum" was also often used to refer to forest. By the way this is why Katerina is wearing that green thingy in the clip. "Shum" is one of numerous ancient ritual songs, they are called "Gaivki" and "Vesnyanki" and people were performing those rituals on "Green Holidays" - when everything becomes green. Not so short in the end, but it's almost nothing compared to what you can find if you go research deeper in this direction. There are 200 000 recorded ukrainian songs and biggest part of them are really ancient and ritualistic. Have a good day!
Hi Derek you're right this song is a masterpiece. A wonderful mix of techno and traditional folk. Also the singing is very special, it has a particular name (I don't remember how it's called)but it's typical in folk music Ukrain. It should have won the competition for sure!
maybe someone`ve already written, "Shum"( reads as shoom) translates usely as "noise", but in this particular case, as a very very very old before christian times ritual song of spring greeting, translates as "forest" p.s. you know, green forest that makes this soft, almost ASMR, sound. Soft NOISE of leaves touched with wind =) from Ukraine with love❤️
It's a techno-folk genre. This song type/tradition is almost a century old, it's a ritualistic song about an ancient pagan deity called Shum. The song is meant to call Shum to bring the Sprig faster and say goodbye to Winter. And the instrument you hear is not a flute but a traditional Ukrainian (or rather old-Slavic) "sopilka". This is one of the most used instruments in Ukrainian traditional songs. She is also singing in a traditional throat singing style. It's a beautiful combination of Ukrainian traditions and modern sound :) P.S.: the meaning of the song is also about season changing. In this context, ending of the pandemic (the Winter) and beginning of new era aka new Spring.
Go-a has actually been around since 2012!! They have a debut album and some singles - if you liked this, also consider reviewing "Solovey"! It's more emotional, but just as good!
That building is the Chernobyl power plant! When one of the reactors exploded in the 80s, they built a sarcophagus to contain the uncontrollable radiation inside the building. They recently had to build the new building you see in the clip over the sarcophagus to prevent leakage since after the years the sarcophagus was getting too risky for such a serious issue.
I’ve read in youtube comments that the voting of the juries was very political this year, but they did really well in the tele-vote (the people) - I think number two? They were my first choice by far. Absolutely hypnotic, I have listened to this song countless times over the past two days and bought the album it was on so I can know more of their music.

The Chernobyl sarcophagus in the background is something.
Long live Euro-Techno Sounds !
Just wanted to say that your reaction and analyse about this song is very right and very good!!!
The song is totally soaked in Slavic pagan tradition, and it is not just any camp fire, it is a passage to another world :)
You seee.... Kateryna is the SLAYING and true queen that rotterdam needs.... SHE HAS THE EDGE SLAYING PRESENCE.
It IS based on a ritual, I don't remember the details but it's based on a traditional Ucranian song that is supposed to make the winter go away
It's a beautiful combination of Ukrainian traditions and modern sound :)
P.S.: the meaning of the song is also about season changing. In this context, ending of the pandemic (the Winter) and beginning of new era aka new Spring.
Дякую! Україна супер!💛💙❤
Yes he goes "bananas" .... there's no doubt 🤫😂

I’ve read in youtube comments that the voting of the juries was very political this year, but they did really well in the tele-vote (the people) - I think number two? They were my first choice by far. Absolutely hypnotic, I have listened to this song countless times over the past two days and bought the album it was on so I can know more of their music.
@@a.student4215 that's the pojnt. exactly. greece & cyprus voted for each other...same procdure as every year. ( candinavians the same.
