Reindeer Ritual - Raw meat shared by family of Nenet Herders

  • Part 2 to our series about the ritual aspects of the Nenets of Northern Siberia. This is an educational video showing an ancient and sacred aspect of traditional life among the reindeer herders of northern Siberia. The reindeer (caribou) is everything to them, they herd them, and in the past they were a very important part of their shamanic tradition. The reindeer can survive in the harshest of climates, find its food under two fees (0.5m) of snow, and keeps the herders and their families alive when there is no other food available. In the far north of the region there is no firewood for cooking. Everything freezes solid within minutes. Warm fresh food is therefore a treat.

      @@NomadArchitecture Some of us were semi-nomadic herders up until as late as the 1800s but not anymore since war sadly killed the last of our reindeer herds. Nomadic families used similar structures to the Nenets with bark, moss, and furs as insulation. Nowadays everyone just lives in traditional wooden houses in the villages, or have moved away to the cities for work, school etc. Our villages are mostly very poor so people aren't always able to stay.

      Very very true, my grandfather came from south eastern Europe, where if animals weren't hunted and killed by their own hand people would've starved to death. Moving to the west he couldn't believe how softened people were when it came to killing and eating animals, in fact he couldn't believe how most people just owned dogs for no purpose, where he was from the dog was groomed to be a protector and hunter and if it failed at them both it was shot and another would take its place

    people seem detached from the process of how food gets to their table. it's understandable why someone would have a strong reaction to this, it's a part of modern culture. if everyone prepared meat products themselves, there wouldn't be any offense. nowadays the process is hidden away in slaughterhouses, where animals go through so much worse than in natural situations like shown in this video

    • @urban_fox4658
      @urban_fox4658 2 роки тому +4

      I agree. This is why I learned to hunt. We skin, "quarter," process, and then freeze/eat the deer meat. We've used the antlers as racks for coats, shoes, decorations, etc., I dry and cut the pelts in strips for making cuff bracelets that I sew and decorate to sell so that I can live as a children's book writer and illustrator with two young children in tow. I have yet to figure out what to do with the rest of the deer except to give it back to the Earth, coyotes, vultures, and other predators. I don't think I could eat it raw dipped in blood, but we do always thank God for the provision and the deer for his life.

Releasing sugar or carbs in the form of fructose and glucose. Insulin then is released from our pancreases... a necessary evil. Sugar is the number one cause of inflammation and ageing. I eat a similar diet to these people... but the problem is most items in the modern day supermarket has been tampered with / processed. Eskimos are healthier than us western folk... no processing, no wifi radiation - no toxic additives, preservatives (Aside from what looks like table salt which is sodium chloride). I digress... good video and well done to the eskimos.

      I see a lot of videos of people talking with indigenous people. Most of them want something better for their children. Or at least an opportunity to decide if they want to live like the parents do or enter the modern world with all it convenient tool for living. I watch one Kate Humble show where she found out they wanted more money for the furs they traded so their children would not have such a hand to mouth existence. It is one thing to have to live that way but to know there is an easier way to live and you can’t give it to your children is hard on parents.
