Bumped into Hothouse Flowers one night at a hotel in the Docklands when I was working up that way. Got drinking and ended up having a sing song with them on the piano in the bar. Liam is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet, a real old soul. Not an ounce of self importance about him and genuinely friendly to everybody. I was very impressed with Liam and the band and had a great time. A top man.
1990 I was 39 Im 72 now Jeez this brings back some great memories as a mature degree student im Liverpool Funnily enough im going back there next year to retire
Was backpacking through Ireland in 1989. In Dublin I saw a street busker with a big crowd around him. He was very good and when I asked someone if he was well known, they said he's the lead singer of Hothouse Flowers. I felt very privileged to see and hear his amazing solo performance 🎶👍
I first heard this played at a concert I randomly saw on TV in the 80s, when I was a little kid. Never heard it anywhere else since. I've searched for it for years. I didn't know what it was called. Didn't know who it was by. Didn't know the words, but the tune has stayed with me since. It has taken 30-odd years to finally find it. Glad I did!
I was working down Brighton ,1988 , just watched Meatloaf in Concert whilst down there , came home and saw that Hot house flowers were playing at Folkestone ….went with the Future wife and we’re both Blown away ,what a Gig Brilliant and they still are !!!!!!
There are soo many songs with don't go in their title that this jumps out last if you don't know the bands name, when it should be THE ONE "don't go" song and should jump out first when searching! There, I've got that out of my system now 😁😁😁
They used to play in the brazen head pub in Dublin my mother was a chef there at the time and she got me and my brothers a post it note from the band wishing us the best in life that was about 1989/1990. Absolutely love this band.
Still going too. I saw Liam at a small blues bar in northern Ireland about 8 years ago. Solo gig with a few friends coming up on stage. He was incredible, he can literally play anything! He had instruments from all over the world with him. One if the best gigs Ice ever witnessed. Shared a pint of the black stuff with him afterwards. Top bloke too 👍
Absolutely. I'd literally just flown into Dublin (1988) on our honeymoon and we were having a meal with the Cullen's when this was played on the TV as part of a Eurovision 'best of Ireland' interlude and I was hooked.
I saw this band at Fed Hall, University of Waterloo, in 1989, it was an unbelievable concert... highlight was when Liam's hat fell off and I managed to catch it and he let me place it back on his head. I literally swooned 😍
This is quite surreal because I don't usually get musical facts wrong, but there's literally nothing on the internet about what this song's really about. It sounds like a run of the mill love song but it's actually about a friend of theirs, dying of cancer. Which instantly makes it one of the saddest songs, I was just beginning to doubt my memory until I went back to the album which has a song called 'if you go', which leaves it in no doubt, and really is the saddest song
Yes mine too it’s gone by very quickly but it’s getting better and better every day in fact I can tell you the best is yet to come I’m 71 years old Amen
The first time I heard this song was in '88 I was 9 almost ten years old when I first heard this song in 1988, and thats when the hothouse flowers released first released it Absolute incredible late 80s classic song masterpiece 👌 🙌
We had to go in 1988..seeing what has happened today and over the last few years so proud of our people and how far we have come in 30yrs dont forget Ireland is still a young country trying to build its self from a long complicated history.......
Yes me too! I was in high school at that time, I was 16. Great music and a band. I bought their record and enjoyed it. And today I read that they will going to have a live gig in my town in March! That's how I came here, to listen to don't go... And I'm sure I'il go to their show!!!
It's got a lot going on in it. I don't know if I'd say I don't like it but it's definitely not very interesting to me. This is my second time hearing this band, the first time being from watching The Grand Tour on Prime Video.
