1) Emacs.... 10) Emacs 🗿
@@user-ee2pv6gr3nThat’s sad, guy who invented EMacs is an alien. Normal human cannot use these shortcuts. In what universe Ctrl-v is not paste e.g? Also eMacs is not editor but advanced LISP processor
@@sebaszwarc > In what universe Ctrl-v is not paste?
In the real universe...where Emacs and its keybindings pre-date the CUA keybindings (like CTRL-c/CTRL-v) that were created by IBM and Microsoft in the late 1980s.
@@sebaszwarc i hope you know that emacs was developed in the 70s
I know, but that is not justification. we have 2023 in case you didn't notice. I am sure you would not want to run emacs on your iphone@@shallex5744
emacs should adapt but Stallman is an idiot . I don't remember what shourtcuts were on ZX Spectrum or C64 :( @@DistroTube
For those in the U.S., have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Happy thanksgiving! 🦃🍽
Been enjoying your stuff for a few years, somehow missed you had studied music. Was a performance major (saxophone) myself. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for surprising me with the degrees and the trading
It's amazing how many people I know in tech that have music degrees.
I t kind of makes sense. People that have mathematical minds tend to do well in music...and obviously tech too.
@@DistroTube well said

UA-cam finally showed your video in my feed! I used to watch you all the time, but then you just disappeared for some reason. I thought you stopped making videos. Happy to see you’re still at it!
Hey DT, How are you doing? I was thinking I'd love you to do a video on LXQT. They just released 1.4 based on QT5.15 and the announcement went pretty unseen in the linux world, it looks like they could use a little more visibility. And I think that it is one of the most crucial distros out there: it is one of the last truly modular desktops with XFCE, they aim to be truly window manager agnostic, even more so than XFCE, and it is the only important qt desktop out there after KDE. And I also believe they have a better shot at making the transition to wayland than xfce in the future.
Plus, the WM- agnosticism thing should be really fun to play with: can you truly make it a dynamic tiling de with something like xmonad or a manual tiling DE with something like I3? I think all these are ideas that should be worth a try.
Anyway, hope you are doing well. See you.
Happy Thanksgiving to you Derek and the Taylors everywhere! I'm thankful for life and another wonderful year and I'm thankful to you, your channel, and your skilled contribution to the FOSS community. We are thankful that although we received the difficult news that our middle daughter of 5 girls has Leukemia, God has been in her treatments and that we have her! Peace to all!
Yes God is there, and I will pray for you, too.
Agreed! I know He is and thank you, brother. We need them!
Distrotube, while you're a graduated musician : could you make a test of Ubuntu studio from musician point of view (if not already done)?
How good perform the different apps provided in the field?
The operating system is just a bootloader for Emacs anyway! 😉
VLC is amazing, I downloaded a movie from the internet through completely legal means and it arrived as a bluray image I guess, not a standard video format. Sure enough, I threw VLC at it and it played it with no issue.
Respect seeing the trading software app at the end
thanks for sharing!
Hey DT! Do you prefer flatpaks over other packages?
DT, what cpu/mobo do you use for “time sharing”? Do you use a server and xterm into it?
10:39 First time I've heard of your musical talents. Does beg the question though. LMMS - if a frequently used software? 😏
Just curious, have you tried the Yamaha SILENT Brass Trombone Mute? You can pipe the output to a distortion pedal or the like. I used something like that once in a concert and during my solo, the guy making he video had the camera focused on the guitar player until he realized who was actually playing. You might get a kick out of that.
I would like to see a video from you about the olive video editor 0.2.
This project needs more exposure in my opinion. It could be one of the best open source video editors.
I use olive editor and davinci Resolve. Best video editor.
Hi Derek. Long time user of not just your Xmonad script, but now, the DTOS Qtile distro. The DTEmacs is fantastic, but since you made the change, I can not install MU4E. I installed it Doom Emacs when I watched one of your videos, about a year ago, and it has been my daily go to for emails. But now I am lost because of elpaca. Please can you find the time to do a revise install video for MU4E and how to configure it in DTEmacs. Thanks in advance.
I figured you'd be an MPV man.
mpv is awesome.
If I'm not mistaken, i use only Firefox, Vivaldi, Dolphin, Konsole and Micro.
Just sometimes I run OnlyOffice.
Great !
bro do a system level apps also . being a beginner for arch linux i want see that .
What would you recommend for security cams? So many of them store their pictures/videos openly in the cloud! This cannot stand.
we need videos on different window managers under wayland
I'm quite sad because I don't have too much free time to do things, but it would be nice, now that I think this would become a big project, to begin translating parts of the wiki to other languages, like my native language (Spanish). It's something that make me quite crazy: being one of the most native languages, and taking into account that there's always someone that doesn't understand 100% of what's written in the documentations, I can't think of many docs translated and up to date. If I had time I would propose to translate the docs to the spanish language. Maybe in the future, who knows hehe
What Window Manager are you using, though?
I've always been fascinated by the idea of using a window manager but never follow through.
It varies, but in this video it's qtile
Thank you @@gksudolol
Kinda surprised Brave is your main browser. I pegged you to be using something more aligned with the FOSS philosophy like LibreWolf or something equivalent from the Chromium derivatives. Nothing wrong with using Brave of course, just surprising.
I'm librewolf for most of my browsing, and ungoogled chromium when I need something chromium based. I've tried brave but I actually find it too bloated with useless features. I'd rather use ungoogled chromium and add only the features I need with extensions. Built in ad blocker isn't anything special considering how easy it is to download ublock origin
I use linux mint. I use VLC to record and play video. Kdenlive and Handbrake for editing and compressing video. GIMP makes upscaling photos so easy. I also use Darktable to process photos from my camera because the camera software is only for win/mac.
A classical trained musician, how nice.
I cant find tabliss for the brave browser; only available for firefox, chrome and MS Edge. How can I use the tabliss for the brave browser?
Brave uses Chrome engine, so they should be compatible...
#Hey DT. Can we hear someday some music from you?
I don't really like the UI of VLC. I use Celluloid/MPV.
Hey dt, please review P-Arch linux. ❤
You have a good microphone and even then, it sounds a bit ugly.
eliminates those vibrations in the sound, there must be bad frequencies
Derek can you give us referral link about tasytrade ? hope will be not in the US only
Well, I wasn't really after any referrals here...just sharing a nice trading platform. But as a TastyTrade customer, I do have a referral link if you want to use it: start.tastytrade.com/#/login?referralCode=SHJXXS4CNR

Oh-my-zsh with plugins also gives autocomplete. You are one of two people in the world who uses fish😅
best online broker app?

Never understood why VLC is popular. It's horrible. MPV for the win.
It has an actual UI and better defaults.
I've been using VLC for like 20 years and am curious: what - in your opinion - is horrible about it? not that I am a fan of VLC, I just use it because it does what I want - showing me videos.
@@bepowerification Not as customizable. Going borderless takes hackish. The UI is horrible and settings menus etc etc. To each their own I guess.
@@Sharp931 I took the time to customize to my liking. I made it it use very VI like key usage and similar to youtube's own keyboard usage. I added stuff like sponsblock, playlistmanager, wrote several lua scripts to make it my own.. Its perfect if you take the time to customize it. Not so easy to do with VLC.
As a Windows user I can scrub easily with Film & Video than VLC.
FIRST YAYAYAYAYAYA
Your mamma gave you some good initials Distro Tube and now Day Trader
There is a delay between video and audio.
It's because he's using Kdenlive (joking)
It baffles me how, to this day, DT hasn't saw yet that Brave's "privacy" features are just a hoax.
Waiting for a day when DT finally buys a Mac
The chance of that happening is the same as Mac switching to Linux 😂
why would he ever do such a thing
I don't like Brave and GIMP. I prefer just firefox and for image ediors there is no real alternative on Linux but maybe Krita and Darktable. I like Affinity Photo but is not for Linux and with WINE does not work well.
Virt-Manager exists for Windows but only for connecting to remote servers.

I don’t get it what using Adobe has to do with protecting freedom?
is it proprietary software.
so what? if he pays for it he is free to use it. you never lived in authoritarian state so you obviously know nothing about what "freedom" really is@@shallex5744
Freedom in the sense of software freedom, which could be considered related to user/consumer freedom or rights, I suppose, more generally. Search "Free and Open Source" software to learn more. Adobe is not open source. (Adobe also tends to be particularly expensive and annoying, but that's my personal opinion :-)
Fish........ Really 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 . Ok you do you
I have to say, I'm very disappointed you're not using MPV
One exception: terminal 😂
😀 👍👌.!.

Second?
i'm surprised there's enough software for linux to talk about for 17 minutes

please don't day trade man you're gonna ruin your own life
it will if you dont know what y'a doing, thats why i dont like trade apps, cause trade is for experts on that, not for all people
I'm not "daytrading" in the way that you probably are talking about. I'm not taking 50/50 shots on whether a stock or a forex pair will go up/down in the next few minutes or few hours. That's gambling and you have absolutely no edge doing such trading, despite what all the fake "financial" youtubers tell you. I'm trading options and mostly using strategies that have 70-80% chance of winning. And as I showed in this video, I make thousands of options trades every year. If I didn't know what I was doing, I would have went broke a helluva long time ago. ;)
@@DistroTube exactly, is not "you gonna ruin ur life" if you know what ur doing
Appz are phone crap. We use "packages"
you make your living by gambling broo do something useful brooo there is no arguement you can make that will prove that day trading is good or it's possible to make money using day trading
what are you taking about...
y so triggered
U arent held hostage by Adobe. Adobe lets u make more money IF u make money by using their things.
So you think Adobe is evil yet you’re on UA-cam and social media? This is a common theme with Linux users contradicting themselves so often it’s embarrassing how incompetent people are. 😂 Linux user: that wallpaper is bloat. Lmao def "no gf" vibes
