Remember the McEwans lager ad with the ball! Win "You've got the power" Rikki Fulton took the piss out of that ad in Scotch and Wry one year, it had to be his funniest ever work! Bring back the Irn bru ad that ripped the pish out of the Coca-Cola ad!! Best ever irn bru advert!👍 Thanks for putting all this together, I remember ever one of them, especially the Army recruitment one at the end!
I well remember the McEwans Lager one; heavily 'inspired' by the lithograph 'Ascending and Descending' by M C Escher, plus a bit of '1984' thrown in too.
THANK YOU IMMENSELY. So many of these i haven't seen since i was a wee ankle biter. Certainly makes me a little sad though. Society is so crass, unimaginative and nihilistic these days compared to the 80s.
I like how most of these are for alcohol. Really says a lot about Scotland. The Irn Bru adverts were always quality. They need to go back to the drawing board & make those again.
"The Irn Bru adverts were always quality. They need to go back to the drawing board & make those again." We did, and then you fannies made us change them, so that the rest of the UK would understand...
@11:40 "Sterling, Tillicoultry, near Sterling." I've had that in my head for years. That ad must have run a lot at the time. Also, I found it amusing hearing that Sterling is in Tillicoultry, which is near Sterling. 🙂
Great. The Irn Bru ads are something special. For local ads why use so many English narrators, I thought there'd be more ads with Scottish accents. But it seems like in Scotland a lot of life revolves around an alcoholic drink, reminds you it's time to drink again.
The majority of the voiceovers *are* Scottish, they’re just using their best Kelvinside/Morningside accents. Even the guy in the Scottish Gas advert is using a super-posh Scottish accent.
@@damiencrowley5546 He died of cancer. He was 66. Very sad. One day he invited me round to his flat for a drink. He had this shopping trolley full to the brim with alcohol. Freddie loved his drink. The man was one in a million.
@@damiencrowley5546 Yes, Damien, he was a very versatile actor. There is one thing, that he told me, that he hated most of all and that was to do with playing the Glasgow hard man roles. He said he was never like that person and in fact was very kind and emotional, which he was. He told me he was very scared at times, because you would get some nutter approaching him thinking he really was hard man gangster and would challenge him to a fight. He said that happened quite a lot.
In the adverts we have Bill Torrance before The Beechgrove Garden for Belmont Used Cars at 15:41 Ronald Forfar (Freddie Boswell in Bread) at 18:53 in the Scottish Gas advert, The late Gerard Kelly playing pool in a Tennent's advert 22:43, Dave Anderson (Mr. McLelland in City Lights) in the Smiley advert 25:12, Andrew Fairlie (The original Gash Nesbitt from Rab C Nesbitt) as an athlete in The Herald advert at 27:21, as always for a number of years Dougie Donnelly in the Sterling furniture adverts at 29:00, The late great Rikki Fulton in the McEwan's Lager at 4:34 and Peat Road Motors adverts 29:10, Archie "Woof" MacPherson in Sunday Mail at 33:43 and lastly Karl Howman & Freddie Boardley in the McEwan's export advert 36:11, lots of classics here and lots of brands that are no longer with us.
I was very fond of Goldbergs. I've still got a toy Luke Skywalker AND Artoo Detoo bought there. On a Sunday, no less, when no other dept store was open to the best of my memory. A nice place.
Brings back memories from August 1982 ("new Y reg ") .... the late Iain Cuthbertson advertising Agnews ( what would the Scottish Government say today about a bottle of plonk for £1.59?) Tony Christie singing a catchy song about Tennants, Rikki Fulton ....
My school in 1988 had woods next to it and when I was 12 or 13 we used to find old Tennents lager cans and chuck them into the river for a race to see whose 'Can Girl' won. 😂 "After a slow start Vanessa's overtaken Sandra and is now neck and neck with Cheryl..."
ua-cam.com/video/HD4Gum3xxSk/v-deo.html was well talked about next day at school and even funnier when it was spoofed on scotch & wry a few months later
I'm 43 and still remember alot of these. Good Times. Dinnie get proper scottish tv adverts anymore. Everything has to watered down and please everyone now and it's all americanised these days 😒. Wish we would go back to being scotland and not the rest of the world. Great selection of tv ads. Need to watch more.
I am from México and i love Scotland. :)
And lots of Scots just love Mexican food!
Why
Why tho?

Love the humble simplicity of these ads, know what you mean life is sadly lacking in relaxed humour nowadays..

Alcohol and furniture lol

Same here. They were forever advertising on Grampian TV at weekends.
That Fine Fare advert is so funny. "We don't just shop in our back yard, we travel round the world.." These days the selling point is local produce.
23:36 "Glens, Hutchinson, Robertson and Stephek"
Is it me or is the voiceover on that ad a certain Mark Goodier of ex-Radio 1 fame?
do-do DO DO DO

Comprehensive! Some time in the future I'll be doing 'ANOTHER 100 Scottish adverts' whenever I find another 80 of them.
Yup Dec my late grandma used to work at Goldbergs in Glasgow they went bust in 1990 after the failure of the Style store card scheme

I think the Tennants ad was a prototype for the ' One Great Thing ' ad😅

Yes.

"Tatung" at Glens, Hutchisons, Robertsons and Stepek. PMSL!
I was surprised how good they were!!! Better than BIN-a-tone!! :P lol
Glen's are still going strong in Largs!!
Altogether better! I did actually once have a Tatung TV/video combo, has to be said I had no problems with it

The John West looks the same as it did in the 60s.
You've taken some of these from my uploads. I don't care, I just noticed.
I can tell you, that McEwan Lager spot may have been local, but it was not cheap.
Bring back SSEB board shops and the Scottish Gas Gas Showrooms.
The Gas shop near me had GAS BOARD or similar in large red letters on the paving tiles outside.
Someones forgotten the mess that the SSEB/Scottish Power stores made in their final years.
I didn't expect plum English accents!!
I guess they wanted every viewer to actually understand what was being said.
