In this video, we finish blocking on the sides of our off grid house build. This completes the last step needed before we can lay out the zip sheathing OSB!
We run into an issue with our solar power system - that almost burnt the whole thing down! A battery wire had a loose connection, and was beginning to heat up and trip our battery breaker over and over. Justin does some investigating and saves the day and the solar power system.
In our last video, we talked about how we were delivered the wrong size of OSB. The hardware store wasn't able to deliver the right size for another week, so Justin took matters into his own hands. He knew picking up the 3500lb OSB sheets would test the limits of both the utility trailer and the tractor, but it's a risk worth taking to avoid getting delayed another week. Thankfully, no tires or hydraulic hoses were popped, and going low and slow won the race.
Next it's back to the roof for more exciting blocking and cinema worthy drone shots courtesy Lil! Thank you for joining us on this journey.
Lots of progress! Glad you were able to get the correct OSB and figure out why the breaker was tripping!
Hey Justin, there’s a way to help prevent that issue from happening again. You can use wire Ferrells around the ends of your wires. This way, they won’t push aside and increase the current in a specific spot. It keeps the wires together, so when you clamp down, it’s a solid and firm clamping. Hope you’re both doing great! Thanks a bunch for all those videos.
I know a Ferrell was mentioned but I’ve used thin copper sheets cut in strips too. Just a couple of wraps around the wire will do the job.
House is coming along. It will be nice when the roof is on. 😊
Trailer axle sure was grunting.😊
Hope you all had a wonderful Gaudete Sunday today. Rejoice!! I am personally rejoicing that you all are safe and that a fire didn’t occur. I know God was watching over all of you.
Happy Rose Sunday to you too!
Really looking good,Great work.See you next week.Thanks
Gonna be a weird Christmas with an empty seat at the table. Keep the traditions going and know he is very proud of you all.
And congrats 😂. You and your wife won. 😢 army vet here, lol. Navy beat us.
But love the progress.
Thanks for showing the solar issue. I will have to keep an eye out on mying as well
Hey Justin
Great catch on the wire. Reading what the devices are " telling " you is SO important...
Best wishes to All.. 😊
Good catch on the theloose connection
bless you both...Merry Christmas 😎💜🙏
House looks great my friends 😊
Glad you folks are all OK
Seasons greetings & Have a great Christmas.
For me it will be a strange one being without my Dad this Christmas.
Good luck building your home 🏠
I added a 4th array this year, I had my charge set at 190A, last day I got sun around Nov 6th I was charging 10.6kw for 2 hours till I heard a loud click, 5 secs later power was off. I found out my dc breaker is 175A, good to know it works.
Nice investigating to find that loose connection
nice work prayers ty
Great video Justin and Lil
Hang in there
make sure to check the torque on any of the other connections using that large size multi-stranded cable. About every 3 months for the first year and then 1-2 times per year after that go through and tighten them again. Eventually you won't be able to tighten them more and then you won't need to check them over and over. This is more important now that you have a larger load on your system. The heating and cooling caused by the variance in the amps being pushed through can cause them to loosen up. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Baby. LOL :)
Sister and brother looks like you could have been in trouble with the batteries, just lucky you found it. Yes,just remember to check all bolts and tighten them to the correct torque from mfg.
Yes,you can't have another mistake in the osb ,that creates a delay in building. You need to get your roof on for protection from the elements. You are doing an awesome job.
God bless your family and keep them safe.
May God Bless your family this Christmas season. Stay safe.
And you as well
Love the house building but videos are just to short.
and the cats have to be in the video, I see you from Union Europe
Thank God you caught that problem with the wire.
Happy to see y'all doing okay over there.
Christmas Baby or a New Year's Baby? 😊 Looks like she be getting close to delivering, just guessing. I'm betting she is ready. Happy Holidays to y'all 🙏.
I loved your video series and enjoy watching your progress from week to week. I'm glad you didn't lose everything with the electrical fire. One thing that could change for me though. Dump the Jed Clampett hat. LOL All good! Ellie May says hello and Jethro wants to know if you're having possum stew.
Your son is gonna grow up to be a heavy equipment operator.
What state do you live in your property is so beautiful, Merry Christmas to your family
Do the breakers have screws that could be torqued? If so, who installed the cable to the breaker, and was the screw tightened per torque spec? Do they loosen over time? How often should the torque be checked; or only investigate if wire gets hot? Thanks!
When the guys put my one together they put stuff on the cable ends
Merry Christmas, enjoy your videos, always interesting, our heart is with you as is God’s blessings!
Get your self a cheap heat gun get at Lowes keep a check wires the cheap ones are not the best but you check it now when it's ok and if it goes up much you know you have a problem
❤😊❤😊❤😊
Its getting there God Bless from your Canadian Friend.
Ho hum
I've a great idea for the baby's name. "Eddie or Eddy" 😂😅
While you were up on the roof, did you troubles all drift into space? Was it peaceful as could be. Or was the world below not bothering? I'm sure you guys are to young to catch the drift. LOL
Happy Gaudette Sunday!
