This film got a lot more digs in than I thought lol. It’s very critical of the present cultural norms it appears unless the writers were not that intelligent but it really is hilarious that way if that was the intention. From the neurotically PC principal who takes it to an extreme level, to the prom waltz to a strange yodel version of Celine dion to the cheerleading for 2022 bit. It’s clearly clever satire. And to top it off Rebel Wilson parading around as a hopelessly dated zombie of Regina George 😂 it’s really great I thought
It's absolutely critical of modern social norms, I think the writers did a great job criticizing (& making fun of) what counted as 'popular' in 2002 vs. the reality of what's popular these days, which is in part, PC culture.

I think that 80s and 90s nostalgia is reappearing in this type of series because of the social media, handy filters, self-editing mechanisms in every mobile phones which are actually enabling to showcase real ordinary incidents in a appealing and sensational way. they need to do a prequel of when she was younger and show how her life led up to the point of her senior year. i loved the vibe of the early 2000s 😩 wish that part of the movie lasted longer.
The premise of this is so sad. Imagine losing the 20 best years of your life. That’s where her entire future was, find love, find a career, find passion. That feeling of being fake and not knowing who you are in high school, for a lot of people that’s normal, and they find themselves later in life anyways.
For some people their 20s were the worst years of their lives, for various reasons. Think of those who grew up severely traumatized by their family system and had to spend most of their young adult life just coping and doing therapy, or grew up in poverty and have spent their 20s just barely crawling out of it. I am in my early 30s now and despite not having achieved everything I ever wanted(far from it), I would not trade this time of my life for any other point in the last 20 years of my life. @@DR-om9ce looks like a movie by Netflix
Wow i’m the 1000th like!
Rebel Wilson is extremely funny! So glad to have her back.
I'm just here to say that the movie was really good. It was very uplifting, and I think we need this kind of movies at moments like this. Stream it now and don't be bothered by the negative comments in here.
I like it too, the only thing I hated is how her evil teammates get away easily with an attemptive murder ..
The fact that 2002 was 20 years ago hit me hard 😂. And that Madonna-Lady Gaga joke... Spot on 🤣.

I love how she creates more movies like this. Makes me nostalgic of the 2000's movies. Also, love her transformation!
It was fun working with her and the film this movie is going to be the best ever

Gotta love that she came out of a 20 year coma looking like she just stepped out of a hair salon 😆
IKR I don't even look so coiffed after eight hours of sleep lol
The hair might be the only semi-realistic part - the family of coma patients will go in and do their hair regular etc. Depends on the hospital and the situation of course. Needing your ligaments operated on after 20 years in a coma... now that's the issue!
This actually looks like a really good movie lol
I learned to not trust Netflix originals because 90% of the movies Netflix releases are really bad

You were ready with the paragraph weren't you?😅 I would have read it. It would have been a lovely essay.
I’m 36 years old and oldest daughter is a senior and going to prom soon and my youngest daughter is going to high school next year so this movie was so relatable on many levels. We were afraid it’d be cheesy but this movie did a great job captivating both eras and the acting was great too. You’ll watch this movie from start to finish, it’s like watching a classic late 90’s early 2000’s movie in 2022 ❤️
Sounds like you either got pregnant your senior year or right after graduation.

I remember i saw one of the oprah's episodes that a girl was in coma for more than 20 years if im not mistaken and her bestfriend was beside her almost everyday and when she woke up it was pretty hard mentally and physically to jump back to the real world and it took time. These type of stories happen in real life and not just movies and its amazing to pay attention to.
wow, what a transformation! As someone who's been overweight their whole life and is only now at 34 is losing weight meaningfully, this is kind of really inspiring to see.

@@tastymuffinmm 1000% agree

Rebel Wilson looks sexy a lil slimmed down. I am also on the Keto trying to pop some calories and also be more fit. The fitness helps. And a lot of walking. Gluttony is a bit makruuh. 😇
Rebel has my utmost respect, she looks great!! She went about it the right way losing that weight, very healthy 👌
Just because you weigh a lot does NOT mean your unhealthy, that’s not a good mindset to have at all.
@@xxannaballsxx Well generaly it means so. Having extra weight does not make you healthy and maybe you are fine right now but that may bring problems in the future. So it's good she lost weight for the good of her well being and nothing else.
@@xxannaballsxx I think they meant the way she lost the weight was healthy, not that she was unhealthy before just that the method of weight loss wasn't bad...I think lol...if they meant that then I agree with you
Being overweight is never healthy and enabling people like that by saying it's fine should be a crime
@@xxannaballsxx thinking that being fat is okay is a worse mindset...
It's like "still 17", a korean drama(shin hye sun), where the protagonist was in an accident and wake up after years of coma but stay in a teenage mind. But I also watched a documentary where a teenager was hit by a car and was in a coma in 20 yrs, her parent didn't gave up on her but she can no longer walk because her body is distorted.
You’re saying that a real life version of this is definitely horrendous. True. Sad too
That's what I'm thinking about too 🤔. That teenager saved her best friend from that accident..
I think that 80s and 90s nostalgia is reappearing in this type of series because of the social media, handy filters, self-editing mechanisms in every mobile phones which are actually enabling to showcase real ordinary incidents in a appealing and sensational way. The more we consume the filtered videos by scrolling down the more we feel that we are lacking the sensation within it. So these sorts of series will come more in future to cater our thirst of consuming the exciting, delicate real life events and reiterate the sensation within ourselves
Or... Or it's what the younger people grew up and it is now nostalgic
@@joseyparsons7270 Yeah, it might be to a certain extent, but I assume that those who were born after 90s will still find it interesting. We are having recurring experience within typical sense of contemporary sentiments and fun.
What do filters have to do with the 90s?
@@bodo887 Look my point is that many people are having resemblance with typical 90s film contents or themes whatever....now in this age, social media, Instagram edits, filters and all others can present the same 90s themes in a sensational way relating to our contemporary sense of fun, excitement etc. This little factors like filters, social media edits are portraying and underpinning the similar concepts in a *tiny* different ways

Iconic
I've always quite liked Rebel Wilson. That combined with the early 2000s nostalgia---I'm a '92 baby so my childhood involved a lot of Britney x Christina, Spider-Man, Lord of the Rings, and Lisa Frank---definitely makes me excited for this! That period of time is so sentimental for this millennial and it will be hard to say no to watching anything set during those years.

This movie had me in tears and stitches, it's definitely self-aware and has some legit bangers for us (semi)boomers.
they need to do a prequel of when she was younger and show how her life led up to the point of her senior year. i loved the vibe of the early 2000s 😩 wish that part of the movie lasted longer.
Angourie & Rebel are perfect casting for this, they look so much alike.
The premise of this is so sad. Imagine losing the 20 best years of your life. That’s where her entire future was, find love, find a career, find passion. That feeling of being fake and not knowing who you are in high school, for a lot of people that’s normal, and they find themselves later in life anyways.
Feel like it's meant to represent those of us who lost those years even without a coma.
@@armstrongjosh Yikes I feel that.
The more independence I got, the happier I got.
The years of your life are what you make of them. They’re not always in this time period.
