  • Here is a walk-through and how-to tutorial on how I made my toddler's quiet/busy book using both no-sew and very easy sewing techniques. It really helped to entertain him while we were on our recent trip and I would definitely recommend trying your hand at making one! If you have any questions then just let me know! Sophie, this was exactly what I was looking for to make for my 1 year old grandson! I especially appreciated your telling me which items would be too small that I should avoid making. Excited to make this for the holidays for him!
    QUESTIONS:
    1. The back of each page looks like different material or was it also felt?
    2. A bit confused about the velcro. Do the pieces also stick onto the regular felt pages? Or will they only stick to pages made from the soft velcro strips?
    Thank you so much, Susan

    Wow what an amazing book! It looks so professional but is so unique and special for your little boy. I felt a bit overwhelmed to begin with whilst watching just by the sheer volume of work (how long did this take!!) but as the video went on I started to realise how nice a project it would be for me in the evenings to make and something to keep forever and even potentially for friends who are expecting babies.
    Can I ask..
    Where did you get the felt pieces as I'm also in Leeds
    Where is a good place to start (get all of the materials or just them for a few pages) and..
    Do you have some suggestions for adaptations for an older child who has just turned 3? I can see how the bead counting would be good and perhaps the apple tree. I could do some more challenging shapes and use real money as you suggested but just wanted to know some other ideas so that the book is a useful learning tool as well as a much loved toy. Thanks :)

      Thanks for your lovely comment, Sarah. I think you must be my biggest fan 😂
      The book took a couple of weeks to complete and I just worked on it during nap times and sometimes in front of the TV in the evening. It's definitely not something you can knock up really quickly but worth it if you're keeping it forever, as you say.
      What about including some practical life skills for your little one? You could do a shoe with laces to tie or a page with buttons or zips (the tricky kind with two parts). Or maybe a threading or weaving page? What about a dress up page with a person in underwear and then a little 'wardrobe' of different felt clothes to dress them in (great for talking about the types of clothes we wear seasonally too). Just a few ideas! Hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching and commenting - I really appreciate you!

      The felt pieces were from Boyes. Hobbycraft also do pre-cut squares, although I find the felt to be a little too thin.

    Was the apple tree and apples velcro too? Wheres the best place to get felt and velcro from..I LOVE YOUR BOOK😍

      Thanks Alice! The apples aren't velcro, they just kind of 'stick' as it's felt on felt. They would fall off if you picked the book up though. You can buy velcro and felt from Amazon quite easily. I got ours from our local fent shop/haberdashery (Boyes) which meant I could see how thick the felt was.

    So so cute!! Do you think it could all be glued instead of sewen?

    • @SophiePickles
      @SophiePickles  2 роки тому

      Definitely, but I would advise caution if it's going to be given to a child that will still put things in their mouth.
