    In 1965-1969, I was a medic in the Vandenberg AFB flight surgeon's office. There were still some pilots and copilots who had flown B-25s in WWII and after. The pilots all had hearing loss in their right ear and the copilots in their left ear. They would move their head set off of the ear away from the engine on their side so they could talk to each other without using the radio. The engines must have been very loud.

    Note: 1 of Doolittle's crews did land, in Russia. They were taken prisoners even though Russia was our ally. They eventually convinced Stalin to let them fight with the Russians and escaped back to Europe through the middle east. Sadly the last of the Doolittle Raiders died in 2018 or 2019. I got the autograph of the navigator of the B-25 that landed in Russia at a air show in Columbia SC back in 2006.

      @chris storrier nope no guns. Just the plane. My father built a giant scale rc tank with a .308 rifle minus the stock as you said as the cannon and it is pretty cool but things like that would add to much weight to the airplane. In the past I have dropped fireworks from them but getting a system to light them at the flip of a switch is a pain and I always worried about it burning up the plane. If you care to search moki 400 radial on youtube and listen to the engine and you will see what the coolest part of the plane is lol. Sounds like a Harley kind of. • @confectortyrannis275

      It really does come down to theatre and role. Personally I'm on the side of the F6F Hellcat, the F4U Corsair (later revisions post engine upgrade) and the P-47. The common denominator amongst those is the engine.
      The Hellcat used one airframe approach to great multi role success and *complete* air domination once they rolled out. The preeminent turn n burn fighter of the pacific theater.
      The F4U took another approach. A true energy fighter that is a boom n zoomers dream and robust enough both in airframe and endurance on wing to make the navy it's most natural home.
      The P47 was yet another approach in airframe that again lent it vast superiority in a multi role capacity in air ground support it could put a heck of a payload on target, and in high altitude engagement and energy fighting (boom n zoom) it was a frigging flying *tank* that also came with 8 .50cal machine guns and if properly zoned in could put a literal fistsized buzzsaw on target. Not much, not even trains or destroyers could stand up to it for long.
      The P-51 is however a truly spectacular airframe and earned pride of place in the European theatre for a reason for the US forces involved (some versions of Spits can give a stang a run for its money tho and 190s stood toe to toe for a long time)

    If it really was like it is portrayed the guy who received the call from the radar facility should have been court martialed and busted down to private. Too bad the guy making the call didn't make a voice like a pissed of colonel and threaten the guy with hellfire if he didn't get off his lazy ass and alert Pearl.

    • @johnemerson1363
      @johnemerson1363 3 роки тому

      It wasn't! The young lieutenant at the "command" center got a phone call from the radar site telling him about the radar contact. He assumed it was the B-17's due in that morning. Even if he had realized the true nature of the radar contact, at that point there was NO telephone lines to any of the army airforce fields so he couldn't warn anyone if he wanted to.

    Nearly Everything about Midway is wrong. Only 80 Japanese pilots were Lost. The Japanese decks weren’t filled with bombs, ammo, planes, they were in the hangar deck being refueled and rearmed. The new 2019 HOLLYWOOD MOVIE“Midway” is more accurate than this “mythumentrary”.
    Someone needs to read “Shattered Sword”, by Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully is is the TRUE story of Midway.
    Without this HUGE FUBAR on Midway ruined it.
