Which Finnish entry was your favorite?
Musically none of them, like Ami Aspelund (Fin 1983) even herself stated, when asked she don't have any favourite! 🤣Actuallly her Fantasiaa come to close. I'm still waiting for a really good song, because they can. It's just everything seem to go wrong, favourites fail live (UMK) usually came 2., Finns picking wrong/bad songs (2020 become better though), also bit bad luck. 2015 disable group was worse of all time, no song and singing just terrible roaring.
Windows95man. Finland is not supposed to be nice and following everyone else. At its best, Finland evokes the feeling of creativity, openness, being yourself, enthusiasm for life, and love for the community. Sometimes others think it's top notch and sometimes not, but in Finnish mindset, if you're authentic and kind, you win. Sometimes we sent what we thought others wanted to see, sometimes others didn't want to see what we sent, and sometimes we connected! 💚☺
2021, Blind Channel with "Dark side"!!!! They have several songs on my playlists after that!!! 🤘 In my opinion Finland is way better than Sweden 🤘
Greetings from Sweden!🇸🇪
1985 is the best!
From the national selections (umk) Opera Skaala (2015), Signmark feat. Osmo Ikonen (2009) and Passionworks feat. Tony Turunen (2009) are my favourite entries. My favourites hardly ever gets chosen. Käärijä is probably the only time that my favourite in umk actually won 😁 (I didn't watch when Lordi won. It probably would have been my favourite if I did.) From the ones that actually was in ESC my favourites are Lordi (2006), Käärijä (2023) and Laila Kinnunen (1961) 🥰
It was very close in 1996 that a starting metal band Nightwish would have represented Finland by public vote, but the jury decided otherwise. After 10 years of boring, the public vote was allowed to decide -> to send Lordi to 1st place.
And that was shame, shame, shame, but in that time jury had main voice and they didn't got balls to do it and I really think, that was something they regreat forever.
An interesting reaction. Finnish music is a lot more diverse than just metal music and hard rock. What we've sent to Eurovision is a mixed bag, but not all of the bad scores are because of bad songs. I think we went through an era of defest in the 1990s, when we tried to find a song, which would not annoy anyone, and ended up sending songs no-one liked that much. Sone of the "failures" from the more recent years were actually artists, who had international success (with other songs), but who kinda didn't work in the ESC. Darude has one of the biggest hits ever (Sandstorm), Waldo's people was (once) big in the electronic music scene, and the Rasmus has plenty of hits from early 2000s, but none of them really excel in live performance, with live vocals. I do hope we continue on our path of picking something we like, regardless of the result. We have a good chance to do just that in 2025.
In the 1990s more countries wanted to join Eurovision, and they hadn't yet introduced the semifinals, so they then had a rule that countries that got a bad result one year, didn't get to compete next year. Since Finland got 22nd place in 1994, they didn't get to compete in 1995, they did get to compete in 1996, but got 23rd place, so they didn't get to compete in 1997, and so on. So Finland competed every other year, and never got a result good enough to get to compete the following year. In 2004 the semifinals were introduced, so Finland did get to compete again, only to be eliminated in the semis then and in 2005.
But then in 2006 Finland finally showed Europe that they could win!
Thank you for the info!
Btw, Rasmus should have placed a lot better, and Käärijä is a genius.
Pernilla is a Fenno-Swede, Swedish with the distinctly Finnish dialect is her mother tongue, very fitting for singing a song dedicated to her mother.
@@piamaki4558 That is the same thing, yes.
You are best... love you ❤
creetings from Finland 🇫🇮
The most interesting thing is that Finland is known as a country that just has rock or harder entries... Before 2006, not a single one. After that, there were surely more but really not a lot.
Yes, 2012 was in Swedish, one of the official languages of Finland. Also, the last time Swedish has been sung at Eurovision....
Clockwork Orange was made in 1972 and that song was from 1962 so you do the math. 😆
A lot of Finns have Swedish last names. Like 20% of my friends have Swedish names and most of them aint even Swedish or speak Swedish.
Also depends on where you live, in Northern and Eastern Finland more rare.
I agree with many things, but to accuse us for copying Sweden? No. We sent Swedish song-writers in 2009 and 2018. That’s it. And they’re our neighbours. Other countries like Malta, Azerbaijan or Cyprus send them all the time and are the furthest away from Sweden. We are one of the few countries to always do our own thing. It’s pretty much Finland, Georgia and Albania that don’t care a crap about what others think and that’s what I like about Finland.
I was mostly referring to the identity crisis of Finland at Eurovision.
Finland has never really taken Eurovision very seriously 😃
2018 Saara Aalto get in the Final, but she came 25:th out of 26 so it is not good. She came 2:nd in UK's X Factor, she has also come 2:nd in Talent Finland, The Voice of Finland and two times in Finland's Eurovision qualification competition. 2018 Finland's broadcasting company made decision at Saara Aalto is who goes in Eurovision and there is 3 different songs where people can vote what is going to be the song for Eurovision. 2019 they used the same system again with Darude and after that they change it back to the old system (the better one).
Little facts, Katri-Helena is bluewhite voice in Finland, almost everybody loves her. Her eurovision song Tule luo doesn't have any hard letters (finns love them, like K, R and others). Old times there was a real orchestra and mixing scil was in "baby shoes" and that is the reason why music was so loud. Also old times there was a jury who decide who,s going to Eurovision song contest and their choices wasn't very good (sometimes horrible). Then Lordi was finns competition candidate there was many people who said, that they will be moved out of Finland if Lordi wins (I don't know any movers 😂). Pertti Kurikan nimipäivät was so, so, so wrong select, but there was a reason why public sent them. They were developmentally disabled (that's not bad thing) and that was the reason. Then The Rasmus won local votes, reason (maybe) was, that it was very well known band and people though, that it's enough (there was many better songs in my penion). Thank god, people's choise won and we could send Käärijä to share party, party, party to Eurovison and all over ❤
15:35 This is not a first time Finland sings with English language in Eurovision.
And no matter what your language you use when you sing in Eurovision, you can lose or win.
21:53 This band is; Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät, that was Finnish punk band, and each band member has some Intellectual disability.
My mother and that side of family are Finnish, but Swedish descendants, they do live in that beautiful country, but actually don't speak the language. The history Finland/ Sweden is complicated to say the least 😅. My personal opinion on their Eurovision is that they need to embrace more that they are 90% heavy metal 😊. ( other 10% is tango, and we don't want that) I love Finland, and hope I didn't offended a butt hurt one😊❤
Welcome to dark side 🙌🇫🇮
Thank you! :)
Kirka is the best !
you should react to more Eurovision countries in your main channel, especially countries like Italy, Sweden, Ireland and France before the 2000's etc, have a lot of quality songs
You talked about the Finnish reggae song and it reminded me of another country you don't expect reggae from- Thailand! Have you heard Doo Ter Tam by Job2do? I like it! 😅
Also, I think Käärijä should have won last year! And I say that as a Swede 😊
Fredi❤-67, he is pheomenal singer. and 73 years Tom Tom Tom is pretty good song. Years 79 is good song too. actually, many songs from the 80s and 90s are good to listen to and some became hits and got a lot of airtime on the radio. Catcat was a really good pop duo. In Finland they were very successful and they left many good songs in the Finnish music genre. and then there comes the Lord! the only time Finland won. as a metalhead, this really pleased me. my own father was angry and happy at the same time. he was of the opinion that the music was good but the performance was terrible🙄😂.
Have to admit, we are much better on Winter wars than on Song contests.
Just! Not to mention much better making music in best, than those crap sent to Eurovision! Not even talking about rock/metal.
Well i mean, we lost that one too lol
@@mixlllllll I don't quite agree. We didn't surrender or weren't occupied and/or attached into Soviet Union like many other country, and which was Stalin's goal. We succeed to stop Stalin's army in all front's: Tali-Ihantala, Nietjärvi and Ilomantsi which made Stalin to accept peace treaty. He also needed his troops to reach Berlin before west allies.
@@Carl_Gustav_Häyhä We can say we didn't lose that badly, because we kept our independence, but let's face it: we did lose the war. We lost ~10% of our land area and had to pay large reparations. That not something that happens to winners, right?
@@mixlllllll I didn't say that we won the war.
You don't probably know how insulted many finns who see this will feel about that "don't try to copy Sweden"-comment. Besides, Finland actually seems to send what ever they want and doesn't seem to copy anyone. Waldo' s People has been a very popular band in Finland and they have a lot of fans here. I'm 100% sure that people who voted for them didn't have any thoughts of Sweden in their minds. But that said, I actually stopped watching the national selection for a very long time because I was so disappointed when Waldo' s People won because I thought that it was the most boring song in the competition and I really wanted Passionworks feat. Tony Turunen or Signmark feat. Osmo Ikonen to win. I think I felt like that Norwegian guy who Finland sent to Eurovision (2005) to sing "Why? Why?" 😂 (But imo even that song was way better than the one we sent 2009.)
As Finnish I say that Käärijä won and all my friends were saying same. I believe jury cheated and let Sweden won so ABBA 50 birthday could be in their home country. After that there was seriously an idea to remove the whole jury because their opinion about the winner is never synced with people of Europe and they are always giving the victory to country who pays the most
This is not true, Loreen did very well with the public too, not just the jury. And also not true because the worse years in Eurovision history were when only the public were voting (1996-2004 ish).
If you want to hear more Finnish reggae, you should listen to Jukka Poika's music. My recommendation for the start is his song named Silkkii.
I like tea. Mostly just plain or with a bit of honey. I've had tea with milk. And with some spice. I don't hate them. Just a personal preference to have without milk or anything other than honey.
And to comment on our entries in Eurovision. Yeah....we've had more bad rankings than good. And some really bad entries. You are not wrong with saying some of them sound like a high school music project. It is what it is.
Now I fully understand the word gringe...
Finland! Did you steal Cambodia with Kim Wilde? 9:53
They are not that similar than any others, so cut the crap about stealing!
@@Bandido894 Wooha! Calm down. It is a questionmark at the end. So I never said you stole it.
My favourites were 1950's and Blind channel and Rasmus. Kojo was zero points to Finland👎🤮 worst of all(maybe)
