I just came across this hack a couple days ago. Very impressive! But I particularly liked the original music, especially this track, which was the first level played on the run I saw. This is easily the best track. As an enthusiast of video game music, in particular Mega Man music, this track stuck out above the rest. The main reason: it's memorable. I wouldn't say there is a standard structure for the music on a Mega Man level. Reading some of the other comments, saying how Mega Man 5 music wasn't as good. There's definitely some "darker" tracks, like Crystal Man and Stone Man. And that's like saying themes like Wood Man and Crash aren't bright and poppy. I love the layout of this track: you have your opening that doesn't repeat, the main theme with a great harmony, and kind of the "middle eight" to help round it out. I seem to always have a different opinion of what the best Mega Man tracks are with other people. I missed any great standouts in Mega Man 9 and 10. To me, the best two from those were Concrete Man and Pump Man, but no one ever mentions them. Were these your original compositions? How did you record them for 8-bit? I know this is long, but it just fascinates me and wish I knew how to do the same. Ok, post over, thanks again!
Thanks, I really appreciate comments like this! Yes, this was an original composition by me (I only composed the tracks uploaded on my own channel; other people contributed with music too), I thought it would be interesting have a stage theme in major key, which is not that common (though they do exist; Wind Man and Crash Man come to mind at least). I have to agree with the fact that there's no universal truth about what are the best Mega Man songs: To me, Mega Man 5 actually has really awesome music, but I guess that's because I'm a composer myself and can appreciate how they're musically more advanced than MM1-3s music (though MM2 and 3 still have my favorite soundtracks). Getting your songs into a ROM is actually pretty tricky, for nearly all songs I had to write the data into the ROM by using a hex editor. Recently co-author MartsINY made an MM3-6 music editor which eases this work a bit, but still one has to know how the music format in the ROM works. It feels really rewarding when all that work is done though, and chiptune music doesn't get more authentic than this - ripped straight from the ROM!
I've always wanted to make my own Mega Man game with original music, but had no idea on how to do any of it really. But I imagine it is that rewarding putting all that effort it. Thanks for the reply on how you go about doing it. I'm a composer too, so you and me both about the structure of the songs (in fact, you can check out some of the medleys I've done on my page if you're so interested). @@Firebounce
Mm. I never really felt like bouncy music really..."fit" well in Mega Man. It's not a bad theme, but it doesn't inspire shooting robots. It's why I don't dig the Mega Man 5 soundtrack as much as lots of other people do.
@@randomguyontheinternet7940 I find the entire ost is pretty good. It knows how to set the mood, and then you also have songs like Gravity Man that actually develop instead of mostly just looping the catchy part.
To be fair, Mega Man music was never about 'inspiring to shoot robots". At the very least themes like these fit Mega Man's aesthetic with playful enemy designs, shaped like animals, everyday objects, and eith big cartoony eyes.
@@blackpants7385 That's not an excuse for Spring Man's stage being too playful. But yeah, I agree, it was always meant to be not taken seriously enemy-wise.
@@randomguyontheinternet7940 For Spring Man it fits his stage, and it's not like it's missing that Mega Man 7 energy. I'd say Crash Man’s is a bit more out of the blue, but that's not to say that it's bad.
My favorite of the RM songs. So catchy!
Really makes me think of Mega Man 5. I'd say that vibe is nailed whether intended or not.
You know what’d be awesome? A jazz cover of this, in the style of Mario Kart 8.

My favorite music of this hack

Megaman 5 has 2 good songs. Napalm Man and the Wily Fortress.
