Two things can be true. We did bottle it considering the position we put ourselves in. It's still a good season overall because of where we were and where we now are. I mean Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea fans would very gladly swap their seasons for ours, United are the only side other than City that can make a case for preferring their season having won a cup, but if they somehow finish outside the top 4 that might change. We don't have the depth they do and when we have numerous injuries in similar positions it's amplified how much weaker our overall squad is than theirs. It's not an excuse, it's just a simple fact that their squad is stronger than everyone else in the league, that's why they've won 5 out of 6 league titles. One thing people do seem to be missing though when they say it isn't a one team league and that it doesn't matter if you beat City home or away, it does. If we beat West Ham and Southampton, which are the two games that everyone is judging us as having bottled it off, we could only hit 91 points still. City can hit 94. To win the league specifically when it's City that you're challenging you need to match them across 36 games - which for the most part we've done (our records outside of the two games against eachother are Arsenal 25W-6D-3L / City 25W-4D-4L), but you also need to win one of the two games against them, or at the very least not lose both. Giving them a 6 point swing on you makes it borderline impossible to win the league. Something I am genuinely pleased about though is that it isn't going to be us missing out on the league by 1-2 points, because that would've been hard to take with the Brentford result. This way there's no doubt that the most deserving team won the league.
