I think Grace thought there was a snack in there for her as well! The foxgloves will look glorious. Danielle, keep healing and planting, we love all that you do. Thank you.
I too got emotional while watching Floret’s show. I don’t know how any plant lover wouldn’t! I’m excited to see how your garden evolves this season with all the changes and additions. Glad you’re healing up! Have a great weekend everybody!
“ Grace” is Beautiful. I’m growing several dahlias from seed. 2 of the seedlings are huge, healthy lush plants. Some of the others are coming along. I can only hope I get a Dahlia as Beautiful as “ saving grace’. 😊🌼
I’m so glad you’re feeling better enough to be out in the garden planting again! I’m sure that will help speed your recovery mentally and physically! I was surprised at how dry the soil was when you were planting the foxglove so the rain we will be getting today and tomorrow will be a wonderful blessing for all the growing things! 👏💕😊
I am envious of your gardening zone. I am in zone 2b-3, and have 2’ of snow in the yard. Seed starting will start this week though as I don’t plant out until first week of June. Love watching your videos, you have a lovely yard and have enjoyed seeing the changes and additions you have made over the last few years.
I love when a new video pops up. You inspire me to get out and plant, plant, plant in my own background garden on Cape Cod. As you are a fellow hydrangea lover, I hope you can visit Cape Cod during our Hydrangea festival! My home is always open to you and family. ❤
I understand so well , I love flowers 💐 so this year got out of my comfort zone and I planted so many flowers. I got from a local seed shop some dahlias seeds I wonder what will come out . Thank you for inspiration now I am no longer afraid of planting flowers. Glad you feeling better. God bless.
What a great idea to cut the tops off. I use to do that with coleus when I lived in Florida and would just stick the new piece in the soil/sand but had not thought about doing that with these plants. Twice as many for the price...nice!
Gardening vicariously….looking at grass today and expecting 6”-10” of snow tomorrow in northwest Michigan. I’ve had good luck propagating verbena bonariensis and appreciate the hints and tips!
Thank you for your videos! Up here in Nova Scotia, I have a while to wait before getting back into my gardens. So I follow a few garden channels to live vicariously through you lol.
Praising the Lord you're well again!! Sending hugs...I'm growing some lavender snaps too! And this year, we found 5 snapdragons that overwintered outside! The entire plant! Such a thrill! I'm growing dahlias from seed--thankx to your inspiration--5 varieties!
It’s wonderful to see you are feeling better Danielle. I’m so excited with anticipation to see all your foxgloves blooming this May. What a show that will be! Also can’t wait to see how the Saving Grace dahlias turn out. I absolutely love watching your channel! You’re such a warm and gentle soul!
Hi Danielle, I was happy you were able to get outside to plant your foxglove, it was such a nice surprise to see your video this morning. Glad you're feeling a little better. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on Growing Floret, I am not familiar with that show and am anxious to check it out. You have a lot of, helpful information and I appreciate you sharing your tips and experiences that you've had in your own garden with us. I am looking forward to your Saving Grace dahlia seeds germinating and growing into their beautiful blooms. 😍
Wish it was as Spring here in central western Michigan shoreline as you...but I know it's coming 🥰. SO EXCITED to see what Saving Grace babies all look like!!!! Please continue to heal up, and keep us posted 🤩
I grew Foxglove last year from seed. I was amazed how easy they were to grow and how sturdy the plants were. We are WI zone 4 and they held up to frost into November here. The plants got huge and I cant wait for blooms this year. Canterbury Bells did wonderful as well but not frost tolerant. Cant wait to get into the dirt again this year. So wonderful to see young people loving to garden. I had a large flower garden at our Victorian home fir 30 years and have since moved to a more sensible home we retired to so now much more planning for the future has to be garden is lovely.
I'm glad that your surgery went well and that you are on the road to recovery. This was an enjoyable video and your foxglove look great. I bought the foxglove seed from Triple Wren in the summer of 2021 and planted in the fall. I had some colorful blooms last spring but this year it is looking really strong so I can't wait. I'm looking forward to your next gardening update!
Foxglove are a wonderful addition to any cottage garden. Plus they're biennial and seed so easy. Can't wait to see all your bulbs......the colours are going to be just amazing! Don't you love making a visual masterpiece from seeds, cuttings and bulbs? We are "artists of nature".....learning as we go. Hope you are feeling OK.....takes a while for your energy to come right. Cheers, Jo.
So glad you’re feeling better. I love your enthusiasm for growing flowers. Your videos are such a pleasure to watch and I always learn something. This year I’ve started more seeds than ever before and I hope I can keep up with them. My yard and gardens are super muddy from all the rain in the Midwest. I have some tiny dahlia seedlings growing from Baker Creek Seeds. My first time to grow dahlias from seeds. Looking forward to watching your flowers grow this year.
I bought Erin’s book and love it. Every year my Dahlia bulbs dry out. She also has a chapter with growing from seed. I think that is what I will change to. So I am courteous how yours grow. Please keep us updated. 😃
Love Erin, she is such an inspiration. I have also rewatched my self several times. But honestly you are such an inspiration too, always so positive and full of great information. Keep it up lady!
Here in WNY z5/6 I’m able to sprinkle saved verbena bonariensis seeds out in the spring. Plus I think some plants are able to overwinter in mild winters. I’m sure you get flowers much sooner than here though!
My Verbena Bonariensis reseeds itself so voraciously here I was surprised you had to buy any, digging it up and transplanting in drifts is how I get it where I want, especially as it seeds itself in locations I don't wish it to be. I haven't cut it back like that to make it stockier but I definitely will this year and see how that works for me. Renees Seeds has some border Dahlia seeds I want to try called Watercolor Silks.
Danielle, I just watched the first episode of Growing Floret. I too cried through a lot of the episode, hearing about her grandma and their shared love of flowers. I am a flower gardener today because of my grandma too ❤🌸
So glad to see you feeling better and out in your garden! Your seedlings look so healthy. Just love Grace! What a sweetie! Your garden is already looking lovely!
Last year I also started dwarf dahlias from seed indoors under grow lights. They germinate in 3-4 days, in one month I already transplanted them outside. It was a terrible drought year but they keep flowering without any sign of stress, later in the fall I dig up the tubers, this year I will try to start them from tubers. That was the most succesfull flower experience for me. I also started foxglove in the summer and transplanted them outside in october, they overwinter outside, some of them are fine but others died, I can hardly wait to see the results of my first experience with foxgloves.
I've been wondering how you were feeling with the dental work you had done. Glad to see you are on the mend! I've never grown dahlias from seed - looks interesting!! I may have to give it a try. I will say, however, that I over wintered all of my dahlias from last year AND I went juuuuuuust a little nuts buying more varieties recommended by you and several others. So maybe I'll hold off on the seeds lol.
I planted out my snapdragons and didn't cut the tops off but this is my first year growing flowers on this scale for some profit (I'm small scale) and I had birds flying down and eating the tops, I was upset until I saw they were growing side shoots so all is well and I put up bird deterrents all over and I had maybe 3 snaps not make it but it is OK. It's high 50's and low 40's/high 30's at night. Snaps are loving it.
I have 'foxy' under the grow lights, together with several other varieties, but our snow is only now melting so it will be a while yet before they get in the ground. I love that idea of taking V. bonariensis cuttings - you always seem to have such great (and unique!) ideas. Erin from Floret is not the only one who is inspirational, you know 😉 ❤
Hello Danielle, you mentioned that your snail vine have not sprouted yet. Is this your first year growing snail vine? Last year was my first try growing snail vine, after waiting weeks for it to germinate i fished them out of the soil to check to see if they had rotted, (actually bit one seed ;) they were still hard the seed I bit then germinated!!! So I fished the rest out and used a knife to gently scrap the side edge of the seed coat down to the white seed part. I grew the seeds in a pot outside after last frost. The vine didn't flower but I brought the pot inside, it lost all it leaves from either being moved or spider mites but it has regrown. This year I started twice as many seeds scraping the seed coat from the start. I have had about 50% germination and the rest seem to have rotted. I struggle with watering amounts, and I cover them for humidity. I plan to grow this year's seedlings in the garden to see if it will flower. I am a zone 4? ontario canada and I still have snow so am quite a bit behind in outside growth from you but my vine seedlings have at least 3 sets of leaves. I would really love to see updates on your vine later in the season. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
So great ti have Danielle back in the garden in Spring doing her thing ! :) The bees and butterflies have gone mad for my single seed dahlias - would not be without them now. Grow them just for the pollinators. what do u think about Lupins Danielle? U don;t grow them? Any good for cut flowers? U can get dwarf varieties now.
You are always such an inspiration to me...thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge and love for what you do!! A couple of years ago..after admiring your Bergarten Sage hedge, I started one too. Would you mind sharing how you propagate them? Thanks so much!
Hi friend! I've tried soil and water. Both worked well. They do take awhile to root. They do not seem to lose water as rapidly as cuttings with softer leaves.
Grace kept hearing her name! Propagating the verbena is brilliant. Are there other flowers that work well by water rooting? I cut some dried macrophylla hydrangea blooms last fall for winter bouquets. I read somewhere that you should put a bit of water in the bottom of the vase. Fortunately I used a glass vase so I was able to see that they had put out roots. I cut off the flower heads and potted them up this spring and the leaf buds are swelling in a sunny windowsill. So fun! Glad you are on the mend.
I started seeds of Verbena bonariensis 'Vanity', and put some of the plants in the ground about 3 weeks ago. Like yours, they have one tall stem rising from the center, but they're not nearly as tall and thick as the ones on your plants, maybe because 'Vanity" is a smaller, shorter variety. I've been wondering whether or not I should cut those stems back some, but I hadn't considered cutting out the whole stem.
Does the Foxglove need hardening off also? I'm growing Foxy also after seeing how beautiful yours were last season!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us! Love every single video of yours!
Ahh...nothing says old-fashioned cottage garden like foxgloves! I have some of the longer lived perennial versions: Digitalis ambigua, grandiflora & lantana. They're not as showy, but reliably return year after year.
I too, got very emotional watching the Growing Floret's series. I think I heard Season 2 is coming? So inspiring and gave me goosebumps and tears. We are kindred spirits us gardeners. I was wondering why I haven't seen your videos lately. Were you sick? I just got over a bad virus this past week. But feeling better and ready to get out in the garden.
It's my first year planting cool flowers and I'm confused. At what temperature would you cover the strawflower? We are going to get a couple nights in the mid 20's. I love watching your videos, I always learn something new so thank you for posting!
Hi Aimee. Anything that is a spring planted cool flower I will cover if we dip below freezing for the first few weeks they are in the ground. Some low growing cool flowers like dara, orlaya, ammi...etc...would be fine down to about 27 uncovered but I don't want to shock them with that temp immediately. Also anything tall with tip growth like the snaps I always like to cover at first. I hope that helps. If you are going in the mid 20s I would definitely cover anything spring planted.
@@NorthlawnFlowerFarm thank you so much! That is very helpful. Now if you could just make the snow stop and bring forth spring I would totally appreciate that as well 😉
Hi Danielle I love foxglove but in storybooks, lol I just pulled mine out idk I didn't want anything getting ill from it. They are gorgeous! Hey if you have not checked out Jeri Landers channel? Omy she is an artist just like you!
What I do when I plant dahlia seeds that I saved from last year: I put them between two moist paper towels and then put them in a plastic bag and keep it warm. The seeds will germinate in 5-10 days. Dahlia seeds have quite a low germination rate and in this way I know that all will grow when I put them in soil.
So good to see you. The sunny daffodils look so happy. Will the foxy foxgloves flower this year? After they flower do they return? I am new to caring for foxglove s, and i love the way they look.
So happy to see you this morning! Can I ask where you found verbena in 6 packs? I'm not too far away from you, so if you got it locally I may be able to pick some up also. I'm not as good as you with growing seedlings! Thank you and have a great weekend! 🌱🌞😍
My cool flowers have hardened off completely, they even spend the night outside and look great. I can't get them in the ground today and it is going to rain today. They do need watered, should I let them endure the rain in their cells? It says the wind will be about 7 miles an hour.
If you plant the foxgloves out, will a frost kill them? I would love to start putting mine out in NJ Zone 6B, but I'm worried about a cold snap. Thanks!
Hi friend! I usually do it when the plant has about 3-4 sets of leaves. Last year, I did not pinch the seed dahlias. Saving Grace seemed to branch nicely from the base. We will see if that continues.
I think Grace thought there was a snack in there for her as well! The foxgloves will look glorious. Danielle, keep healing and planting, we love all that you do. Thank you.

short hair for spring, nice, Danielle! I am really looking forward to the babies of Saving Grace!

Hello Danielle, you mentioned that your snail vine have not sprouted yet. Is this your first year growing snail vine? Loved this video. Thanks for sharing and the dahlia you created is lovely!
We're not ready for any planting here in Hampstead New Hampshire but getting close!
Love that vessel set up you're using for propagating the verbena! Could you share where to get one, if you have a source? Thanks!

@@NorthlawnFlowerFarm thank you!! I'll go tomorrow!
My cool flowers have hardened off completely, they even spend the night outside and look great. I can't get them in the ground today and it is going to rain today. They do need watered, should I let them endure the rain in their cells? It says the wind will be about 7 miles an hour.
Danielle, How are the different varieties of foxglove doing for you? Are any varieties coming back for two years?
❤️❤️❤️❤️
How do u keep snails from eating your seedling? Im using dimeataceous[sp] earth but look horrible to have white powder everywhere.
I love the concept you have for the foxglove. Will they work in part shade or do you always place them in full sun?
Hi friend! Here in southern PA they are happy in sun or part shade.
@@NorthlawnFlowerFarm Thank you for replying. I live in Maryland Zone 7 and I really learn a lot from your videos. Keep up the great work.
If you plant the foxgloves out, will a frost kill them? I would love to start putting mine out in NJ Zone 6B, but I'm worried about a cold snap. Thanks!

I also live in southern pa and can I plant dahlias bulbs right now? It's March 26. Thanks!
I bought some lily packets from costco and they are l.a. lilies. Have you grown any? A cross between longiflorum and asiastic.
Hello and how are you Danielle So Super much more Together and a big a great... your team works and channels and all Americans have
Quick question. When do you pinch your dahlia seedlings?
Hi friend! I usually do it when the plant has about 3-4 sets of leaves. Last year, I did not pinch the seed dahlias. Saving Grace seemed to branch nicely from the base. We will see if that continues.
where did you purchase your shelving unit and grow lights
Will you get flowers or just foliage this season on the seed foliage?
where did you purchase your 4 ft heating mat?
