- No matter who you think the greatest fighter is in UFC history, there isn't a definite goat. That's usually because people base the greatest based off of different accomplishments, so i went through all the greatest fighters and stated what exactly they needed to do to become the greatest of all time.

DJ can't do anything to be the goat because he already is. 11 defenses, then gets traded after an EXTREMELY close decision loss to Henry Cejudo, goes to ONE FC which has the 2nd best fighters in the world and in some cases the best, dominates over there, avenges his only knock out loss in that promotion twice over, withstood a round of Thai with Rodtang, and never once had any career issues like Jones did.
If DJ moved up in weight in UFC or ONE, it would've been huge.
135 in ONE is basically like 125 in UFC since they do hydration tests in ONE.

Fighters don’t want to retire as champ because you get PPV points for every fight until you lose the belt. It makes sense financially to wait till you lose once and then retire.

Winning a second belt would really have helped DJ, the knock against him I always see is that he was fighting lesser opponents that got rushed into title shots. Beating a big name like TJ Dillashaw or Dominick Cruz would have really helped him.

In my opinon I think that the only thing that makes DJ not to be the GOAT is the level of competition because in the epoque that he was the champion the flyweight divison was very weak, but if he had fighted against guys like Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Morene DJ would be the GOAT

Jones took steroids so he can't be, and also Jones never fought outside of USA without having home field advantage, he always had that and still used steroids to get even more advantage in a shallow division, not even mention eye pokes and other scandals, hiding under the cage etc.
Currently there are 40 LHWs and 40 HWs in UFC, compared to LWs its too shallow, LWs alone have 106 ufc fighters. LW division competition level is not close with Jones's division.
As for Khabib, that was Dana's fault or that he was unlucky he was in Conor's popularity era, he would have minimum 5 title defenses if Dana didn't give Khabib's title shot to Conor in 2016 after tweeting Khabib fighting Alvarez not Conor. Add no.4 ranked Barboza and no.5 ranked RDA wins of Khabib as title defenses so he would have minimum 5 if Dana gave his title shot in 2016.
The thing with Khabib, people need to realize he was the first Russian UFC champion in modern ufc era, not Fedor, Fedor never fought in UFC, thats equivalent of if UFC was in Russia and Jones went to Russia to win the title, Jones already has problems in his home country USA how well he could do if he had to fight in a different country that speaks different language and different culture. Jones could have failed.
So maybe if Conor didn't exist, Khabib would get his title shot earlier and would have 5 or 6 defenses minimum, would be advanced version of Usman or Volk since Khabib is undefeated they are not.
But on the other hand, Conor stole Khabib's title shot but also made Khabib a megastar more famous than Jon Jones (Khabib has 37M IG followers, Jones has only 8M, its not even close) so its arguable which is better now, being a more famous megastar in MMA or having more accomplishments as a fighter in MMA.

With Jon Jones I think the main argument and almost only solid argument on him being the Goat is his 1st reign.
On his 2nd reign exclusively he wasn't near as dominant, not being able to finish no defense and in all honesty he only beat Gustafson and Smith. It was too close with Santos and got beat by Reyes who ended up losing against the rest of the contenders later
And for his HW reign you could say the same thing about the stylistic match up with Gane. The only way he can still be the undeniable GOAT is a dominant unification against Aspinall

I actually think that title defenses are of major importante when you talk about GOATs.
To be the greatest in MMA is not just about how good and dominant you were in your fights, it's about how consistent can you be with that dominance over a long period of time when most people alive will have that fire burn out after a while as well as proving your skills against many diferent opponents with diferent styles that are coming after you with the same hunger you had in the beginning.

The push back in Khabib being the GOAT has some validity, but it ultimately falls flat in my opinion. It all gets superficial. Sure, he only had 3 title defenses, but absolutely dominated the best of the best at the time. He didn't lose many rounds in his fights and barely took any damage throughout his entire career. He was such an elite that he looked mythical. He never got caught cheating with PEDs, no dirty figting (eye pokes/) and there was never any questionable decision win. He clearly dominated his fights. Before retirement, he showed no signs of slowing down. Even those he beat like Porier and Gathche are still top competition today. His much less talented student dominated Olivera, so what do we think would have happened if Olivera fought Khabib? Islam is under Khabib and is the champ right now. Overall, everyone else in this goat conversation has either lost fights, been caught cheating, eye poking, lost many rounds, etc. Khabib has not and has had a flawless career in the UFC.
@@Syzyzygy What's interesting is that Jones was tested in his fights with Gustafson, Thiago, Sanchez and Reyes when he actually passed the drug tests post USADA. My point is, the PEDs most likely attributed to some of his dominant performances in the past is the issue. Between him cheating and fighting dirty, that taints his legacy a bit. On the subject of Khabib, he was tested in his fights but still dominated. Gathche hit him hard, Porier almost submitted him, and he even said Connor was tough. Khabib made it look easy but it wasn't easy. He performed at such an elite level and he did it without controversies or cheating. Also, he pretty much cleared out his division at the time. Who do you honestly believe was going to beat him? Khabib had discipline that not only kept him undefeated, but undisputably the most dominant fighter. Those feats are not superficial. If Jones retires with no losses and more fights than Khabib, then that's another convo.

I've gone back and forth over those two for years.The reason I still lean toward Khabib is simply becsuse of what I've already stated. Khabib finished dominant and and undefeated. George who was a legendary competitor with two avenged losses who became a double champ? Or Khabib who virtually took no damage throughout his UFC career, only lost two rounds, cleaned out his division, and retired undefeated? I already let you know my take. I will say if there was anyone who was going to take down Khabib, it would have been George. Likewise, I also have to say that if there was anyone else who was going to take down George, it would have definitely been Khabib.

Great list but I respectfully think Jones is more skilled than DJ pfp. Never lost, perfect fight IQ, and when you’re at LHW you gotta learn how to fight with power punchers vs flyweight with speed demons. Skill doesn’t go down as weight goes up, it’s just different
Skill definitely goes down from 185 and up. I mean, you genuinely can't tell me that heavyweight is a skilled division and not filled with a bunch of fat guys slugging it out. DC even admitted the heavier guys aren't as good and there is a video on this channel all about how the HW division sucks. DJ is WAY more skilled than Jones and didn't rely on having a ridiculous frame advantage his whole career. DJ and GSP are the epitome of being well-rounded and did everything nearly perfect.
