    Do you happen to have the source of the video? Judo was introduced to Finland after the war. So, arm locks were not known widely before that. I have never seen this video although I am a Finn.

      The tricks and techniques are often quite natural. Kano did not really "invent " them. He developed a program (at first of course on Japanese "philosophy").
      However, correct or criticise my comment if you think different.

    As a Finn I'm more than happy, that even others than Finns bring forth these things; even though I thought Finnish army didn't have an actual CQC system in the present meaning of the word - maybe apart from some basic wrestling and boxing (or fist fighting) - and of course using a knife, which most soldiers carried. Today it's totally different: we have martial arts such as Scandinavian Defendo, Hokutoryu (The North Star style) jujutsu, founded by soke Auvo Niiniketo and even our own "Korean style" Boreal Hanmoodo (pronounced hanmodo)

    This is 1957 the finns got these moves from the russians/soviets because by that time the russians had well developed schools of Japanese judo and their own sambo! The russians taught the finns because after the war finnland was neutral and in many ways there was open travel for the finns into the USSR! The finns learned these moves from the russian sambo and Japanese judo and didn't invent them! I read sambo books in russian from that era it's basically the same stuff but much more detailed and thorough! Looks like in this Finnish video the selected the basics!

      @@flyfin108 Its a British mix of different styles and sports (like judo and karate), so it is called British jujitsu. Niiniketo learned first in Sweden from Hans Greger until blue belt in their ranking system, then met the British Robert Clark and Richerd Morris who granted him black belt and later 10th dan and soke title. They did not follow any traditional style and there are no good information who were their techers and what styles or sports they did train, and what they just red from books, so it's far removed from any traditional style.

    I wonder how much of it is traditional wrestling. Finns used to have a strong wrestling culture, but it died out which is why we cant really know anything about traditional Finnish wrestling. We do have records of Estonian wrestling having similar trips and hip throws as judo.

    That leap at the knee area looks like something John Jones should attempt from his pre fight crouch. Imagine 250 lbs+ momentum coming at your kneecaps. 😮

    • @ca1498
      @ca1498 4 місяці тому +1

      I think nobody in MMA does this (or the single-leg version) because they find it too risky. That kneecap or that foot could shoot towards the head. But in a combat scenario it is likely to come as a total surprise, and the opponent may be trying to pull a weapon, for which the change of level will be really good.

    • @scottmcley5111
      @scottmcley5111 4 місяці тому

      @ca1498 Good point. Risky enough against an untrained opponent or even in practice.
      But I really don't think anyone would expect it, because of the risk.
      Reminded me of these dudes I saw get into a fight. The big guy, (and by big I mean fat) came at the little guy, and wouldn't you know it, big guy slips and falls/rolls directly into the little guys kneecap, ending the fight. Hahaha!
