A tip to make it less messy is to have the person who's getting the mask lay down while the gauze is being put on their face. This really helped in our case, I did it at a summer camp :)
LMAO! Your comment actually made me laugh. It's true that it's a little embarrassing if people are passing by. I wouldn't go sunbathing looking like that. HaHa!
RoboticZombie27 Thank you! Yes, some people can find it difficult, but so far, I was lucky...non of my students felt claustrophobic. The key is talking to them the whole way through and letting them know everything that you're doing. If they feel trapped, then you should let them know that it's ok to take off the mask right away and they don't have to feel guilty about it. Also it's good to count down how much time is left till you take the mask off. :)
Gidget10 It's so much fun and this is the kind of project you can keep for a very long time. I hope you enjoy making your mask. Do you already know how you plan on decorating or painting it?
I remember a female artists cover me in this stuff.she body casted me in this totally what a great job she did.she let it harden i was a statue then she remove it .she put part of the mold in her gallery.wish i knew a other artists who does this.
What an honor it must have been for you to have your body used as a work of art. I've seen artists do this with women's pregnant bellies. Thanks for leaving a comment. :)
@@TheFuzzyDragon1 i have a female friend who models for me i have covered her entire body with liquide aligiate that s eaweed she loves it.i call her Phoenix when she is encased.she said its like getting a spa bath she enjoys every minute of it.my Phoenix wants me to body casts her in plaster bandages totally.wow.
Just done this in my school for an art project on mask making and the teacher kinda limits us so im learning how i can do this at home so i can make masks for cosplaying
An art teacher should never limit a student's creativity. They should encourage it. I'm glad you came to my channel and found a way to express your creativity. Have fun making your mask. :)
It feels cold and damp, like you have mud on your face. It's not too uncomfortable, unless you have trouble breathing through your nose. It's all over after 15 minutes, so it's ok. :) All of my 10 to 12 year old students did it and none of them panicked or felt the need to take it off, even thought I told them it was totally fine to take it off at any moment if if ever they felt uncomfortable. :)
Thank you! What's great about them is that you get to keep a souvenir of your face from that period of your life. You can cut the strips smaller and get more details from of your face. :)
Amazing method! I did this to my own face (not before slathering a large amount of vaseline across it for safety), a little of the vaseline rubbed off onto the inside of the mask. Has anyone else ran into this issue? If so, have you found a way to get vaseline off plaster?
Thank you for your comment. Vaseline will always get into the inside part of your mask. You can add a few more strips of plaster on the inside to cover it up. You can also use strips of paper towels and glue them on with a paint brush and a mixture of watered down white glue (like paper mache). You don't need much, just a thin layer. All you really want to do is cover up the Vaseline. I hope these suggestions will help you out. :)
I've never done this mask to anyone with a beard, but my guess is that you can get away with it if you really make sure all the hairs are completely covered with the petroleum jelly. It's better to put more then not enough in that area of your face. If you do get some plaster stuck in the hairs, you can always remove it with warm water. It will come off easily. Let me know if you ended up trying it and if it worked. Good luck! :)
HaHa! Yes, I'm sure it will be one or the other. You can also try plastic film on your beard and wrap it around your hair. It's much thinner and will mimic more the real shape of your face. Take care. :)
clifton lawrence I know I've already replied to you on Facebook, but I will reply for those wondering the same thing. No, there isn't a specific brand. If it's made for plaster bandages or sculptures, then it's all good. :)
aurel sherid Thank you! :) You can use sand paper to sand it down. If it's still not smooth enough, then you can smear some plaster (plaster of Paris and water mixture) and smooth it out with a spatula and then sand it again. :)
THIS WAS SO COOL!!!!!! But is there a way that if I made one if these that I can smoothen out the front part of the mask so it isn't all rough to paint on?
Thank you so much. If you sand it a little bit, it van help smooth it down. If not, then you can put a thin coat of plaster on it and when it dries, then you can sand it down a little bit to remove some of the rough edges. I hope this helps. :)
I made a mask like this when I was in elementary. My mom kept it over the years but parts of the mask are starting to fall apart and the forehead area has become soft and wilted. Is there any way to fix this? Adhesive or reapplying plaster? Any tips would help.
Maybe you can try replying plaster strips on the inside so you don't change the shape of your face and maybe give is a coat of glaze to protect it. I have to be honest though. I'm not an expert at this. I just do this for fun with my students as an art project. You can go to your local art supply store and ask them for advice. They are very educated about the products that they sell and can help you out. Most of the sellers have studied in art school and are very knowledgeable about these kinds of projects. I hope this helps a little. I'm sorry I couldn't help you more. :)
You can use a dryer, but but put in on the cool setting or at least not too hot. As long as the person feels ok. You should ask many questions and always make sure that the person is ok. Sorry for the late reply.
What about holes for the eyes? Do you think it would be easy to cut those out the same as cutting the frayed edges? Or to plaster around the eyes in the beginning? Looking to make a mask of my own face, out which the wearer can see..
If you want to wear this mask, then you can either avoid the eyes as you make it or cut them out when it's half dry with an exacto knife. Even when it's completely dry, you can still cut the eyes out, but you just have to be extra careful not to cut yourself doing it. I hope your mask turns out great! Have fun! :)
Amnani HT No, It actually feels very cool. :) Do not use a hair dryer because it will feel too hot on the skin of your model and they will feel suffocated. It's best to use a fan or go outside to let the plaster dry.
Wow! I'm sure it will look amazing! Will you be also making a headdress on it? If you can, I would love for you to send my pictures on my Facebook page. :) facebook.com/thefuzzydragon
LatinaVixen91 Yes, you can make a smiling mask if that person can hold their smile for 15 minutes. You can also just cut a slit in the shape of a smile. :)
I know I'm very late with my reply. If you want to cover the nostrils, then you have to let the person breath by their mouths. You can either let the person breath with a straw in their mouth or through their nose. You have to make sure they feel comfortable doing this and that they can give you a sigh if they can't breath. You can also do this with the nose open and only cover it once the mask is removed by adding little strips of plaster over the open area.
If you want to make a different shaped mask, then I suggest you use a shark photo for inspiration and then ad some shapes to your mask using crumpled aluminium foil, cardboard, plastic lids etc. to build up the structure and shark shape. Then you cover everything with plaster clothes or if you want your mask to be light, then I suggest you use paper mache instead. Look up paper mache masks and you will get an idea of what I'm trying to explain. I hope this helps a little. :) Let me know how it went. Have a nice day! :)
I don't think so. I think it would be very difficult to do this directly on someones face. You would have to make a silicone mold of their face, remove it and then pour the plaster into that mold. It gets more complicated and you would have to spend much more money doing this and do a lot more steps.
That wasn't very nice. Better late then never. I have more then 300 comments that I still need to get to but still I took the time to respond to yours. I'm sorry that I replied so late to your comment, but I do have a full time job and responsibilities at home.
JuJu Bear If you take a look at Gingo's mask at the end of this video, it kind of looks a little like it. All you have to do is paint your mask black and white and it that same image and then just glue a black styrofoam ball where the nose is. :)
JuJu Bear Oh! Sorry, I didn't know you you wanted to wear it. All you need to do is make it with an open nose. When it dries paint it then glue that Styrofoam ball on the nose. Then you can cut a slit or a hole where the mouth is with an exacto knife so you can at least breath through the mouth.

candyloves2 rave I think if you have your mouth opened it would be difficult for you to hold it that way for at least 10 to 15 minutes. Honestly, I've never made a mask with an open smile before. If you try and succeed at it, then I would suggest adding teeth afterwards with pieces of cardboard that are glued on with hot glue and then cover them with just a thin layer of plaster fabric. I have a suggestion...you can try getting yourself one of those rubber teeth whitening trays so your teeth are able to rest on something and you are less at risk of getting plaster in your mouth. I hope it helps. If all else fails, then you can just make up your own face with cardboard and recycled items and cover everything with plaster fabric. It won't be your own face, but at least you will have that evil face that you are looking for. I hope I was able to help a little. :)
Her head would slowly start to inflate with air and she would start floating away like a balloon thus making it more and more difficult for me to continue working on her not only because the dimensions of her face would keep changing but also because I would have to keep weighing her down. Not to mention that annoying little thing about her not breathing and dying. ;)
michail spyridis Because these masks were made to decorate the walls. By closing the eyes, the kids had a chance to paint them. But if you want to have the eyes open, then you can chose to not put plaster fabric on them or let the mask dry and cut the holes in the shape you choose. Either way is good. It's just a matter of personal preference and what you intend your mask to be used for. :)
Thank you so much! This is so great! I'm glad I could be of help. I would love to see it once it's finished. If you can, and want to, send me a picture. I have a Twitter and Facebook. :)))
Aww :( If you really wanted to, you can also do this on a doll's face or a mannequin. Then you can show your sister how good you are and she might let you try it out on her. :)
The person has a thick coat of Vaseline, so the skin is protected that way. Also, you are simply placing the strips, you aren't actually rubbing the skin with them. I've done this to many different people and nothing has ever happened. I do avoid doing this to people who have chalk allergies.
I think it would be very difficult to do it with clay. You would have to remove it right away to let it dry and I don't know if the shape of the face would mess up as you are removing it.
Plaster is not something you can 'dry' faster by going in front of a fan or heat. It is a chemical reaction. at first it will get warm and then it will get cold as it sets.
Thank you for the information. It always seems to dry quicker when I let it dry in front of a fan for some reason. I will have to test it out next time.
Jonathon Ewenin Shhhh! You caught me! ;) lol I forgot about the sanding and by the time I remembered, most of them had already started paining their base coat. It was too late by then. :) You are very perceptive. You have a good eye!
Those people? Do you mean those 10 year old KIDS? We aren't experts at making masks (including myself), but we know how to have fun and that's what really matters. In my opinion, they did pretty FANTASTIC considering it was their first time ever and the fact that they had very little material to work with. Have a great day and I hope inspiration comes from within your heart and not from other people's creations.

I did this in my art class recently. It was super fun! I also helped my fellow classmate make his, too.

Hi, is there a way or something we can apply to the mask to make its surface to make it smoother?
You can sand it down a little bit and glaze it, but it will never be completely smooth like other methods where they pour the product on a mold. :)
how did it stick on the face?
did you use plaster of paris or glue?
plz reply
Sorry for the late reply. It just sticks when it's wet. I used plaster cloths. It's the same thing that you would use for a broken arm.

Really cool video, but I have one question: how can we give a smooth aspect to the mask before painting (to avoid bumps, asperities)?
aurel sherid Thank you! :) You can use sand paper to sand it down. If it's still not smooth enough, then you can smear some plaster (plaster of Paris and water mixture) and smooth it out with a spatula and then sand it again. :)
brilliant but where can I buy the plaster ,,, is it available in market ?
Thank you for sharing. I just want to confirm you would need to use some kinds of glu to let them stick together. Otherwise I really don't understand.
No glue...just water! :) The powder is what turns into ''glue'' when it's wet.
you can rub it with some water before it’s set and it will kind of melt and smooth out
Somewhat Psycho Thanks for the tip! :)

philip coulson No lol, those were Maple leaves.
Can i use hair dryer instead of a a fan?
If anyone is wondering, they DM'd me and said that i can use a dryer, if person under the mask feels comfortable
No you can't. It's best to uses a fan. If you don't have a fan let it dry on its own it will take longer. I'm guessing I'm too late Lolz.
You can use a dryer, but but put in on the cool setting or at least not too hot. As long as the person feels ok. You should ask many questions and always make sure that the person is ok. Sorry for the late reply.

Hi. Does this feel hot on the skin while drying?
Amnani HT No, It actually feels very cool. :) Do not use a hair dryer because it will feel too hot on the skin of your model and they will feel suffocated. It's best to use a fan or go outside to let the plaster dry.
had to do this as an assignment, mad mick thomsons mask
You must be really talented! I wish I could have seen it.
What is the title of this song? I really like it! Thanks for the video!
Psyken Deep Haze by Kevin MacLeod :)
Can you use oil instead of Vaseline ?
I've never tried it with oil, so I can't really say. I think it might be ok.
TheFuzzyDragon1 how about coconut oil, I’m not doing it on someone’s face, I’m doing this on my mound made out of plasticine
I've only done it with vaseline. It might be worth a try. As long as the plasticine doesn't absorb the oil, I guess it should be ok.
My Project Is This But I have to paint it using an Indian Tribe that I picked Its symbols

powerfuladdon Yes, she's a very nice person. She was also kind enough to help me out with this video. :)
Do you think it's possible to make it as a smiling mask?
LatinaVixen91 Yes, you can make a smiling mask if that person can hold their smile for 15 minutes. You can also just cut a slit in the shape of a smile. :)
That is true but the mask I need, needs the cheeks
Yea I think so
how does it feel
The music creates tension

Thank you for apologizing. I appreciate it. :)
Please make the mask worn in the vocaloid song Undead Enemy!
I really need it, pleeaassee!
JuJu Bear If you take a look at Gingo's mask at the end of this video, it kind of looks a little like it. All you have to do is paint your mask black and white and it that same image and then just glue a black styrofoam ball where the nose is. :)
But wouldnt that stop me from breathing?
JuJu Bear Oh! Sorry, I didn't know you you wanted to wear it. All you need to do is make it with an open nose. When it dries paint it then glue that Styrofoam ball on the nose. Then you can cut a slit or a hole where the mouth is with an exacto knife so you can at least breath through the mouth.
How do I make the string thing (Or whatever I use?) be able to stick on?
JuJu Bear What we did was just poke holes on either side of the mask (at the temples) and tie a cord or elastic cord through it.
We used this (plaster of paris)in school on our hands
natasha anjum Yes, I remember those projects. They turn out really cute and it's great to have a souvenir like that. :)
Omg! You actually replied to me!
Anyway great vids n I love your rainbow creations!
By the way this is my sisters account im a boy
natasha anjum HaHa! I usually try to do my best to reply to everyone, but I haven't been on UA-cam for a while and I'm trying to catch up to all the comments. :)
I don't understand.. if it is just water, why they stick?
Because the powder in the cloth gets ''gooey'' and it becomes starts sticking to itself just like mud would.
Great!!!
kim peinture Thank you! :)
this music is intense haha
Can I do something "special" to remove that "thickness" from the surface? Let the mask "flat"?
Sorry for my bad english, I'm brazilian XD
You can make it with less layers. :)
cooool
Thank you! :)
Lolz , they actually had to say "Dont cover the nostrils " .
It's not ''they'' it's just me. ;) And yes, some people need a reminder. :)
Also, facial hair is a big deal. For short beards, it's enough to cover them with a very thick layer of vaseline, but longer beards should better be covered in cling film or something similar.

TheFuzzyDragon1 I didn't think about it enough too :D
You have now found your purpose in life and many beards will thank you for your great sacrifice! ;)
TheFuzzyDragon1 Awww thanks for these wonderful words :P

Habeba Ahmed That's great! :) Did you decorate them to? If so, how did you decorate your mask?
Same in like gr7 i made a phantom of the Opera mask my teacher loved it got an A for making a white mask

It won't be your own face, but at least you will have that evil face that you are looking for. I hope I was able to help a little. :)
awwwww thanks so much :)
candyloves2 rave No problem! :)
I would so do this but my sister would not let me
Could you put paper mache over top of this?
Yes, you can put paper mache over the mask. :) Sorry for my late reply.
what would happen if you covered her nose too?
Her head would slowly start to inflate with air and she would start floating away like a balloon thus making it more and more difficult for me to continue working on her not only because the dimensions of her face would keep changing but also because I would have to keep weighing her down. Not to mention that annoying little thing about her not breathing and dying. ;)
wow
:) Thank you!

your very welcome
Why mask do not have eyes ? :/
michail spyridis Because these masks were made to decorate the walls.

My favorite one was julien's
josh lee Julien's mask was really beautiful. :)
I love Erika's gingo's julien's and Santiago's
sehrish ali Can you believe Santiago doesn't usually like doing crafts? He really impressed me with what he came up with. :)
Aww :( If you really wanted to, you can also do this on a doll's face or a mannequin. Then you can show your sister how good you are and she might let you try it out on her. :)
In addition, I used plastic wrap over the face and layed him down on the table.
Meganarchy That's a good idea to make multiple masks. :)
o my goodness please use gloves though this stuff can mess up your skin when dry, you know cuts and stuff
Yes, gloves are important. :)
Is it dangerous for the skin of the person whose face is being used?
The person has a thick coat of Vaseline, so the skin is protected that way. Also, you are simply placing the strips, you aren't actually rubbing the skin with them. I've done this to many different people and nothing has ever happened. I do avoid doing this to people who have chalk allergies.
Believe it or not, it was hard to pick music to go with this video. HaHa! Oh Well! ;)
Gonna make jeff the killer
Tonio Bell Let me know how it turned out! :)
Can the same procedures work with clay? Or will it mess up?
I think it would be very difficult to do it with clay. You would have to remove it right away to let it dry and I don't know if the shape of the face would mess up as you are removing it.
Tonio Bell YAAAS!!!!
Just asking...Does Angela have facebook, twitter or something ?
I'd like to send her a request..
Manuel Santos I will let her know and she can decide if she wants to give you her contact information. :)
Thanks :)
Plaster is not something you can 'dry' faster by going in front of a fan or heat. It is a chemical reaction. at first it will get warm and then it will get cold as it sets.
Thank you for the information. It always seems to dry quicker when I let it dry in front of a fan for some reason. I will have to test it out next time.
looks like u didnt let the kids sand down the rough edges lol js
Jonathon Ewenin Shhhh! You caught me! ;) lol I forgot about the sanding and by the time I remembered, most of them had already started paining their base coat. It was too late by then. :) You are very perceptive. You have a good eye!
It looks like you are preparing for cocaine in the beginning. But great end product though, thanks!
Leroy Jenkins lol Someones been watching too many 'Breaking Bad' episodes. lmao! Thank you! :)
Heh. It IS a nice show.
Leroy Jenkins :)
у девчонки такая странная реакция на вазелин -какая реакция будет на солидол?
Вазелин чувствует себя немного липким, и он не чувствует себя так хорошо. :)
Gahhh! slender man! JKJK!
hollywood undead? anyone?
Jason Friday the 13th? Anyone? ;)
Is that you?
No, that was one of my old students who volunteered to help me out for this video. :)
So far I did not get inspired at all cuz those people do not know how to make a mask
Those people? Do you mean those 10 year old KIDS? We aren't experts at making masks (including myself), but we know how to have fun and that's what really matters. In my opinion, they did pretty FANTASTIC considering it was their first time ever and the fact that they had very little material to work with. Have a great day and I hope inspiration comes from within your heart and not from other people's creations.
time to make leatherface lol
Did you actually make a leatherface mask? lol
