One of our awesome fans wrote this amazing story and submitted it to us. A professional voice actor and a talented audio producer brought it to life. This is CTFDN, ladies and gentlemen. Excellent work, N.R., Peter and Nick!
Good horror story. It was intense and unpredictable. I was expecting a completely different ending, and then it did a 180. These are the type of characteristics that make a good horror story. The author created a great story.
I remember this fantastically gripping suspense fiction when I read it months ago. The audio production is awesome and the narrator is perfect. Congratulations N.R. Knight!
I just discovered this story and i love it. The writer needs to write screenplays and shows cause this ... THIS... is one of the best stories i’ve heard on this channel.
Just want to comment to let you know how big a fan I am. I've been subscribed for a couple of years now and this is by far one of my favourite channels! I get frequent migraines and when this happens I have to lie in a pitch black room, sometimes for hours on end, but unlike some I am okay with a little sound during this time so I always dive straight for a good CTFDN! I've probably listened to over 100 stories on this channel and I couldn't have enjoyed it more. Thank you so much for making my migraines a little less painful!!
+Jess Crago What an amazing comment! Thanks for the kind words! We do our best; like others, we've struggled at times with life getting in the way of our passions; we're sorry to hear about your condition.
I do the same thing when I get Migraines, as long as I keep the volume low. This is one of the first channels I turn to as well, thought I was the only who did this during my migraines. Thanks for always being there when I'm stuck in the dark and needing a distraction.
Christina Stroup I thought it was just me too! Glad to hear I'm not alone, but sorry to hear you get migraines as well. This is always the first channel I turn to, I have a constant playlist of stories I haven't listened to so I just put that on, lie down and listen.
I'm a big fan of this channel or Lazy Masquerade but mostly when I'm down with migraine I turn here since their stories are so different and unique. Hopefully one day we will get to listen just for fun instead of distraction.
I just ran a mission (for a game called Deadlands: The Weird West) based off of this story. The main character broke down multiple times. It was very fun, but hit everyone in the feels.
Anyone else thinking Silent Hill when listening to this? Good story, I really liked the build up of the character's insanity, and his eventual choice. I also liked the ending. Not too typical like that of most CPs. One more thing, great narrating, indeed. Most CPs are read by narrators without much skill, and are therefore unappealing.
It's funny you should mention that. I hadn't thought of Silent Hill while I was writing the story, but it is one of my favorite horror games of all time. Just the artistic value of it is so good. Maybe in the back of my head it played as some inspiration? Who knows?
N.R. Knight Well, you've certainly done something right if one could himself relating your work to that of the bizarre, twisted horrors of Silent Hill. What got me was how you described the father's descent into madness, and even his path into some strange, horrible realm. Also, the creatures described were terrifying, devouring their unfortunate victim. Lastly, the ending leaves room for the reader's imagination more so than most CPs. So, sure, some might see this as influenced by the horror of Silent Hill, but you've made a great story regardless.
This is my first foray into CTFDN. I have to say that, if all of the stories are this good, then I'm hooked. This was an excellent horror story, and one of those you don't just walk away from, but one that makes you keep thinking long after you've listened to it. Great story. Great narration. Loved it!
I love this chilling tale! 😱 So good to hear it again! Haven't heard a Peter Bishop narration for ages.. love going back to some of these "oldies" on *CTFDN* 👍
N.R. Knight Wow, that is an intense, visceral tale. It begs the question, how much damnation you're willing to accept to save the ones you love? Can you damn yourself AND others to a fate far worse than death? Epic. Just epic. If you do requests, I have to ask, what happens to the little girl? Does she grow up knowing the price that was paid? At any rate, this was a gripping story that I personally hated to see end. Well Done, and good show. And to CTFDN, good choice. Both the story and the narrator are top shelf. You guys are out to set the bar ridiculously high aren't you?
N.R. Knight You, are so gifted. I still wonder where writers like you get their ideas. I wanna be like that. This story was amazing but the narration keeps cutting off for me at, "the light went out" It shows that there is more left but everytime I replay it, it stops there. Was that the end of the story? It might be because I'm listening on my Xbox one. Anyways, I like writing as well, but none of my stories are near as good as this. Where do you get your ideas? Anyways great story and narration.
Great story i loved it! It was very well detailed and told, one of the best i've heard actually :) I felt like i was watching a horror movie i'll give this 10/10 :D
WHOA! the narration is perfect! The sound fx and sound design are astonishing! And the story...the story is fucked up, creepy, and makes me feel uncomfortable. The author did a very impressive job! By the way, it's 1:48 AM in Germany while i'm listening to this with my headphones on..it's cold and foggy outside..alone in my room..in the dark. I too, like to live dangerously.
one of the best stories yet. perfect mix of fear and heart warming aspects. call me twisted, but he's just trying to save his daughter in a strange way.
I loved your voice, you did an outstanding performance! Had me on the edge of my seat, the whole time! Have you done another narration? I’d love to hear another story❤️
actually reminded me of another CTFDN that included a trade. really enjoyed the setting at the end, as well as the father's waning sanity throughout the story. great narration and great story that deserved to win! i personally wanted to hear more about the vast lot at the end, there was a lot going on but still left me wanting to know more (which is a good thing) thanks for the contribution!
I half expected the father to offer himself instead of the boy to the treant-entities, but I'm half glad I was wrong. It would have made for a happy ending to a creepy story, but the ending is definitely fitting and ominous.
Can someone help me finding a video? It is about a woman who got kidnapped and the man who kidnapped her want her to be his sister who died many years after. He keep her in the sisters bedroom. She playes the roll of his sister for a long time but after awhile she hear him talk with himself that she is not like his sister. The woma find a diary from the sister and begin to read it. Also she have a dream where the mans sister talk to her.
this almost has a Silent Hill (videogame series not shitty movie spin-off) in nature, the darkness and selfishness of the human heart and the monsters that we must face and in this case must be to satisfy this nature
everyone has there things those specific fears or anxieties that set you off. for me it is having someone watching me through a window at night and in the past some stories have played off of this and I was in the fetal position after
MrTaurenshaman Unlike "In the Darkness of the Fields", this story was written and submitted by one our fans as part of our June 2014 Short Horror Writing Contest and was selected as the winner of that month's contest.
I have no respect anymore for new authors who try to seem more unique or artistic by only using their first initials followed by their last names. They try to emulate J.R.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling or H.P. Lovecraft. Quit going by your first initials, newbies. Your writing is nowhere near the level of the people you try to emulate and you come across as hipster morons. You're not good or unique, you only think you are.

Jeff you do some gnarly stories, I enjoy greatly Sir God Bless!!
This is definitely one of my top 4 narrated horror stories and Peter Bishop's voice is near PERFECT for this story. Can listen to it over and over.
Other 3?? Please say..
It’s been almost 10 years and this story still lives rent-free in my brain.
The background music, his voice, the amazingly scary story! Loved it! Well done!
Good horror story. It was intense and unpredictable. I was expecting a completely different ending, and then it did a 180. These are the type of characteristics that make a good horror story. The author created a great story.

Definitely a winner!! Enjoyed the heck out of that one, thanks to the writer and CTFDN!!

An amazing, gripping tale!

Incredible story! Thank you whomever wrote this for the that very chilling tale!

Ohh OH my god... what a great story!
Picky horror junkie tuning in to vouch that yes, "Exchange" is worth your time. T'is a mind-bending tale.
Thank you
Great story! I LOVE CTFDN!!!
alsoleve99 Stop, you're going to make us blush.
N.R. Knight here. You have no idea how encouraging it is to hear you enjoyed the story.

One hell of a story. Absolutely loved it.
Me: hi, a relative of mine just died. Here are his organs. Please transplant them into my daughter. Hospital: okay, thanks.
Definitly deserves #1, best horror story I ever heard
Amazingly detailed and horrific story! I would love more of this!
Suspenseful, Very Well Written 👍
Fantastic story! I hope we hear more from this author soon!

Creepy story, love that background music!

Best story on Chilling Tales so far IMO. Really fucking terrified me, lmao
Great story, most likely deserved the win
That... Was impressive.

That was an amazing story.
My favourite thing about this story is, the man's reactions are completely natural. Even coming about from my own thoughts.
Great story, narration and especially noises
This was a thrilling one. Great story though!
great horror story
+Jason Birmingham Thank you, we concur! Thanks for listening!
I half expected the father to offer himself instead of the boy to the treant-entities, but I'm half glad I was wrong. It would have made for a happy ending to a creepy story, but the ending is definitely fitting and ominous.
They only want children.
Brian R
Yeah, the protagonist did describe only seeing children.
MSOGameShow In addition, the letters demanded a child.
Brian R
Crap, that is true. Ugh, I guess in my hope for a noble ending, I forgot about those things. XD
I always listen to ur guys nr 1 winner of the month

cool story.you have a documentary type voice..
I love it.
Wow. What are the odds of his daughter being taken for an exchange in the end? That's karma for you.
Very interesting the hospital didn’t question where the organs came from! 🤨 Good story nonetheless. 👍🏼
Awww...when I think of the word Moist, i think of cupcakes :3 soft, yummy, moist double chocolate muffins too...kyaaa! Now I'm hungry - n -
And when you say cupcakes, I think of the creepypasta called"Cupcakes ", and triggers PTSD ^-^

Amazing story! Super messed up!
I'd like to hear a reading of "Inferno" by Dante.
awesome story man
Do you voice the Stanley parable?
I like that narrator ’s Accent, when he tells this story"
There's plenty of Peter Bishop on the channel if you'd like more!
Awesome
loved it keep it up
Pretty good ....
the advertisements at the end completely ruined it xD
Wow.. The price of living is high.. But, the question is, what are the things that have those children and why have them.
damn...that twist...
Zombie lands' A moist ness' is always as oozing blood, flowing down' like fresh luscious' cake. In horror plays. 😂
Tres, tres terrible! Chilling!
Ashphalt? 18:42 XD
I know, right? He kept repeating it too.
What is this music I need it
The clicks sound like the alien from the movie "Predator"

where's the extra h in asphalt coming from? it's ass-falt.
Why in the hell did I listen to this before bed?
Because of one thing, SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK!
Brutal ❤️ 🔪 ❤️
I am getting sick and tired of these damn Old Navy Commercials
this almost has a Silent Hill (videogame series not shitty movie spin-off) in nature, the darkness and selfishness of the human heart and the monsters that we must face and in this case must be to satisfy this nature
+GeakGuySheldon The author said that he enjoyed the Silent hill series.
Ezra Block That explains a lot
GeakGuySheldon Yup.
Daaaaaang. 😳
It seem like way too much real, my shadow scared me
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Predictable but it was fun all the same.
Doesn't seem like a bad deal though.
Chest pains suck...
Dear writers of anything- please, please do not include the word "moist". It makes me physically cringe.
then it should be put in more often is that not what horror, psychological horror specifically
That's okay. If you're cringing, it just means that the words are working.
everyone has there things those specific fears or anxieties that set you off. for me it is having someone watching me through a window at night and in the past some stories have played off of this and I was in the fetal position after
Lots of people fear that word! I wonder why? I get it though, I despise some words too, won't even write them down :P
What other adjective would we use too describe something which is wet but not soaking other than 'moist'?
U can't cry out, u seize-up' in a knot. With chest spasms.
The narrator read this a bit flippantly; lacked the dread the text called for. Gorgeous voice, but myeh. The reading lacked heart.
i dont like the clicking! its so creepy!
"Moist prison."
Wat tge hell was dat

Endermen lol
cat water
when i heard it was a short story i thought it would be like 5 minutes or less, not 30 minutes lol
Sorry, I just didn't like it 😢
This won an award? There are far better ones, darkness of the fields was far creepier then this.

This was horrible and boring. This got first place? It made absolutely no sense. Waste of time.
+Rachel Hope It was the best fan submitted story.
No its not it was great
