Sorry for being so late to this video, and thank you for your words. Being decently close to him since the early 2000s, I feel like there are a few things people are not really getting about Richard. I see a lot of people addressing the hate during his liveshows, and I can guarantee that hate was the last thing you could find there, especially in the last 10ish years. It was an extreme exchange between his character and the fans (we are talking about pre-social networks). I wasn't there when it all started, but it evolved in a show, and he played it damn well. He was an extreme character all the times, and we knew it. He invited all his fans at his wedding and right after that he took pictures, signed autographs and even offered something to eat completely for free, in the middle of Rome. I think you can find videos of the event, no one did anything violent against him and, if my memory doesnt fail me, he wasn't even directly mocked AT ALL. Also is funeral was packed of people, mostly fans that grew up with him. The real sad note is about the incident you talked about. There is a lot of speculation about it and for what I know nobody is even close to what really happened. On the other side, i feel that the worlwide fame and mockery didn't even reach him. Thank you for your video and your kind words, ultimo! :)
What we can learn is that there is no respect for anything nowadays. People judge in a second and make laugh on anything they enjoy.Even on sick people or people with disability. Thank you for this important video. You are a genuine person.
Thank you SO much or this!!! I started a Podcast called THE WORKPLACE ABUSE EXPERTS, educating people about abuse in the Workplace, and I cannot stand all of the vicious dehumanization that happens ( mockery, ridicule) etc. Thank you for helping this man, albeit posthumously, get back his DIGNITY. He never deserved any of that. No one does. EVER. Thank you for this. RESPECT ( as a guitarist myself, I am actually watching that 1994 instructional video, some of his chops are cool AF, NO LIE ) . I'M ALSO GOING TO WRITE A TRIBUTE SONG.
Thanks for the video, it's good to see that many more people now can recognize the value of the "musician Richard" and not just the "trash guy". After his accident (and yes, Gianni Neri, his old friend, just confirmed it was sadly a suicide attempt) his life changed radically. Also has changed the way how he sees things, he was like living a dream, but the last few years have been more like a nightmare. Anyway we have to thanks some good guys for his last musical project, so Richard leaved us with his last masterpiece: the single "Processione". There is an ongoing project for a full album, it's going to be out in 2024 (sorry for my bad english😂)
@@connorandersonguitar on the album there will be some first takes of songs that Richard should have done if... mostly his lost projects from the 80's. It's going to be a beautiful gift for a man who gave his entire life to the music
this just shows the reality of humanity today, eager to abuse, hate, vile, pathetic humans... he may not have been the worlds "best" guitarist or musician, but he did cut albums and play live shows when he was younger and healthy.. some people just don't deserve to breathe the same air others do.. sadly they do, he was a fairly accomplished musician, disease got the better of him, no shame in that... how many can say they accomplished what he did?
Ive seen some of his bad playing, but never hated him or commented anything offensive. His struggle reflected on me, I'm a short person, shorter than average even for my ethnicity. I couldn't stretch my fingers through the first four frets. Still I'm trying everyday to play my favourite songs. Yet, after all these years i couldn't completely master a single song.
Thank you for that video: Richard Benson is worth to mention. We should respect each others, no matter what. Every single one is special, different, that is the most beautiful thing on this sick World we unfortunately live on. Peace
I learned of Richard's passing only today. When I first encountered Richard Benson via one of the aforementioned UA-cam guitarists I wasn't sure what I was looking at - was this someone playing a character, like Borat or Spinal Tap? Or was he real? Could something so tragic and cruel really be true? I really hoped for the former but shed tears over the latter. Rest In Peace, Richard.
He definitely had the rheumatoid arthritis and an extremely bad case at that. It wasn't just his hands, his whole body was shutting down, it can effect organs and everything. I really do think his RA was an exceptionally bad case. Keith richards has had it for a long time and hes still playing well at 79 years old
Perhaps outside of Italy, but my understanding is that he was at least relatively well-known there (that's why he made guitar instructional DVDs). A real shame that most people only ever knew him because of the hate - I include myself in that, of course.
Yeah people really jumped on that bandwagon! And rode it out! Disappointed in the UA-cam world. Terrible man awful the way his own treated him. Im deeply disturbed at that. The abuse is tough man.

I was really late knowing about his passing. The only consolation I gave him indirectly is that I didn't join the ridicule bandwagon. RIP to the man.
Thanks for your comment. It gives me some hope that for every hater, there was a reasonable person refusing to join in with the hate!

Thank you for your comment, and for the work you do educating people. It is certainly much needed 🙏
I felt devastated 😓 I just learned his passing watching your UA-cam channel... thank you for your outmost support.
Thank you for watching, I'm sorry you had to find out this way 😞

You are the only one that apologies for a good italian pronunciation ...when you said 'vecchio' it sounds just perfect.
That's good to know, grazie 🙂

The humiliation was more famous then his 30 plus years career as a musician. Was sad ending but richard played until he died

Everyone who went to his show was just mean to him throwing shxt at him insulting him
I didn't know he died, that's a shame. RIP Richard Benson
