Thanks to all the fans of my dad who loved and yet supports his music! May God continue to keep and bless you all during this pandemic.
This has always been for me the definitive soul ballad, and the very best rendition.
Wishing you and yours all the best.
His voice, his performance, his composure was a blessing. His voice and conviction never fails to move me.
@@landroverwriterusa you are so kind for those words of encouragement! You can also listen to his grandson “Dozzy Daniel” Guard up is the name of the project. Be safe and happy holidays to you and your family!
This is one of the great songs ever.
Thank you, your father, and God bless the family.
I love this song and sing it too but there's no one who can do it after you hear James Carr doing it.

I always felt that James was one of the soul great who was criminally underrated. Your gandpa's voice could move a dead man.
I’m now 80 at the twilight of life. This song has new meaning for me since I first heard James Carr’s soulful lament

Wolverine's melancholy captured perfectly in this song. Can't wait!

Came from wolverine trailer, such an amazing song.. ! HI all and have a nice day!
I thought I’d be the only one to comment on that but wow! Even though I do like the Wolverine as a character, I watched that teaser and heard this song and immediately knew they hit the jackpot! Absolute perfect choice and excellent song! Love discovering music and artists this way. Thank you Mr. Carr. I will listen to more of your work 👍🏾
@@jean-gerardbeauport6915 I saw your comment too! Guess that goes to show how precise this song in invoking similar feelings in everyone that watched the Wolverine trailer.

My neighbor never heard it before either, and his mom still lives in Hattiesburg! He comes over once a week or so. He says he's checking to see if i need anything, but i think I'm helping him too.
I'm worried because he is worried. So we listened to this and then we listened to some Mavis Staples because i heard that she is still alive and canceled her tour for this summer.
Thank you Sony for helping me find this beautiful song.
Lyrics:
At the dark end of the street
That's where we always meet
Hiding in shadows where we don't belong
Living in darkness to hide our wrong
You and me
At the dark end
Of the street
You and me
I know time is gonna take it's toll
We have to pay for the love that we stole
It's a sin and we know it's wrong
Oh, but our love keeps coming on strong
Steal away
To the dark end
Of the street
They're gonna to find us
They're gonna to find us
They're gonna to find us lord, someday
You and me
At the dark end
Of the street
You and me
And when the daylight hours roll round
And by chance we're both downtown
If we should meet just walk on by
Oh, darling, please don't cry
Tonight, we'll meet
At the dark end
Of the street
Thanks

I'm here because of Tales from the Loop.
James' life was blighted by soul-destroying depression and illiteracy, yet he made some of the greatest soul music of the period. This track is a stone-cold classic.
He deserved better.
The man that wrote this song was just an old country white guy from NW Alabama and you could never guess how he wrote such great music.
Dan Penn is a seriously talented guy, white or not. I grew up hearing this version, but Dan ,s version is chilling .It all comes down to how he responds to his experiences.By the way it was his songwriting partner Spooner Oldham ,who came up with the electric piano tiff, that became aretha Franklin s ,I never loved a man ( the way I love you).

INSOMNIAC WOLVERINE TEASER THANKYOU FOR LETTING ME KNOW OF THIS MASTERPIECE!
Been listening to this for years and years it never gets old because everyday it's a true thing for someone, I wish we could bring back the real soul music like this
Thanks to the Wolverine teaser I'm here. My grandpa actually used to listen to this song and I forgot about it until I heard it. ❤
I first heard this wonderful song performed by the Oysterband. It was so good I had to find who wrote it. What a track and what a fantastic all-time contribution to the world of music. Thank you Mr Carr.
The best version of this song ever recorded. A true soul man, the world is a bit less joyful without this gifted singer.
Emotional...... a beautiful woman I was dating for over 5years sent this song to me the night of our break up, what a voice, what a great song, so relevant to our relationship!
I'm thankful whenever mainstream media brings attention to relatively hidden gems, or things I wouldn't come across on my own. It's hard to find the good stuff when there's just so much stuff out there.
@VintageBeef sent me here and i really enjoyed this song. So much feeling and soul in the older music. Not like today's music
Depends what you're listening to. There's plenty of rhythm and blues, soul, and jazz out there being made today by artists who are forced into obscurity because their genres "don't sell", or it "isn't what the public wants to hear", but that's literally what producers said about James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, as well as countless other great and talented musicians who are now considered classics, who we couldn't imagine the world without. Unfortunately, it was often, and probably still is the case that the most soulful and underrated artists were black, and severely discriminated against (given bum deals, getting ripped off by their record companies). Sadly, if you turn on the radio today you hear the same 8 songs on repeat, so I agree that the radio is no place to hear soulful tunes (some stations have jazz/soul/blues programs, and are an exception to this).
Listen to Anastacia. She has some amazing soul tracks.
Heard this song on Amazon Prime - Tales From The Loop season 1 episode 3. Fantastic.

Wow, yes , one of the greats.
This has got to be one of the best soul ballads I've ever heard.
Wolverine trailer makers knocked it out the park with this song choice. It’s clear that the movie Logan has paved the way for more mature, melancholic, old school interpretations of the character.
Absolutely
I've never heard this song until today and had to buy the audio CD. James had a beautiful voice!
Amazing song! Need to dig deeper
This fits Wolverine so well
I learned of this song when it was played on the Hijack series finale. Beautiful soulful song done by a man with a beautiful voice.
Just heard this on the TV show #InteriorChinatown
Totally blown away when I read the lyrics. Started crying because the thought of someone having to walk past their love on the street, and only being able to love in the shadows, broke me. While I've known all my adult life this happened -
to have someone sing, our love is a sin, with such a deep melodic voice with conviction brought me right there.
These two are most likely gone now but...To James Carr and whoever green lighted it, to go to production at that time, I bow low to your courage for putting a song out which could have destroyed careers. Everyone knows this isn't about an affair. It is about love deemed wrong by those I share the colour of my skin with. And it is about trying to navigate not being able to walk away from your heart while also trying to stay safe. That is love. That is a song of importance.
Bravo.
This is the best southern soul song ever. James Carr had a hell of a voice!

I see his adult child & g/child are here. I pray you are fabulous singers too 🙏 Take a lot to live up to James, you must be so proud.
My g/children are sadly lacking in the music department, you only have to look at the charts to know what I mean. Their generation has to 'listen' with their eyes, unfortunately.
James Carr - what a voice, great song.
Damn right.
An excellent song for the Wolverine. And an excellent cigar song. 🔥
If insomniac knocks the wolverine game outta the park, I vouch that we put them as the head of the entire marvel franchise game division!
Waiting for wolverine to say "Feelin' lucky Bub?" or something as a catchline looking at the guy with the knife
They should've made Marvel's Avengers instead of Square Enix.
It's not a terrible idea for the most part though I feel some franchises are suited for other developers. Deadpool=Platinum Games, Punisher=Naughty Dog, or Hangar studios if you wanna go cheap. Ect ect
@@jordanhoward9678 insomniac can make them better tho.

You should be so proud to have a grandfather like this.! Maybe it will take 50 years before the world catches up to his sincere delivery.
James Carr's performance set the standard. But, a significant portion of the credit has to go to Chips Moman and Dan Penn who wrote this song. They were part of that blue-eyed soul movement in Muscle Shoals and Memphis. At a time when racial bias was rampant in the South, all these people saw was great music.
Chips produced a few Elvis sessions back in 69. That music is considered by many to be the best Elvis ever did. Chips was a genius no doubt.
Beautifully written song Michael. And Penn and Moman get little credit in history it seems.
Dan Penn, he wrote some Great Songs!!!

Just think an old white country boy wrote this great piece of music.
The new Wolverine game brought me here. I'm very hyped for it but I'm so happy it showed me this song! I love this song it hits deep for me.
Thank you Counterpart.
My mama would love this. ♥
Written by Memphis writers Dan Penn and Chips Moman this is one of the best cheatin' songs ever written and sung by one of the the best, if not THE best Southern soul singer of them all. This was Carr's greatest hit, however, his career was hampered by a crippling bi-polar condition and he never really achieved the success his exceptionally fine singing so richly deserved.. He passed away at the ridiculously young age of 58 in a Memphis nursing home in early January 2001.
I’m 70 years old I bought this when I was 16 a truly classic heart felt soul number with a message that never really got heard or felt by enough people , Sam Cooke’s change evokes the same plea.
I hope one day our world will be one where these songs won’t need to be written anymore . RIP the great james carr
Yep Peter, in the same age bracket, knew this as one of our party soul songs as a teenager growing up.
