In the movie, that one word "More!" always tears me up. Literally! For me that"s the time he became one with the real Oscar Schindler. I have viewed this movie countless times till I can recite the dialogue by heart.
alma6911 5/15/18: I never even heard of the movie ( not a movie goer ) til it came out on DVD and I do not even know WHAT exactly prompted me to buy it; but, I do know this, that when I put that movie in my DVD player and started watching it, I could go no further than the scene with the female architect major telling “Amon Ghett’ and the SS soldiers that the structure of a building was not erected properly and that the whole edifice had to be torn down and restarted and she was shot in the head ( she was looked on, by the guards, as being subordinate ). I IMMEDIATELY tore the DVD from the player and burst into tears and it was AFTER many, many years I finally came across the movie again ( where? ) and saw the whole thing. When I saw the complete movie that time , they had an added segment where several holocaust survivors were interviewed and it showed how Stephen Spielberg used there testimonies to make the film.
@@ohioThe only liberty taken was some of the dialogue, because that couldn't be known. You are by far exaggerating your point. Schindler's List is for the most part an accurate depiction of events. That is confirmed by people far more educated on the subject than yourself, including actually survivors. Sit down
@@ohio The book was not historical fiction. "Schindler's Ark" is a faithful depiction of historical events. The woman who was an architect was shot in the head by Amon Goeth and yet managed to say, "It will take more than that" after the bullet hit her and before dying. The other liberties were with dialogue as in many cases there has had to be some guesswork. However, in most situations the film depicts there were witnesses who recalled the topics discussed and by whom in very exact detail. The film does have to omit some details which are even more intriguing about Schindler such as his warning Jews about pogroms about to occur in the ghettos, and, critically, his secret alliance with Zionist groups and his travelling going to Budapest and Istanbul to speaking secretly to Jewish councils there to provide them with as much information about the labour and death camps as possible, and having Itzhak Stern - a Talmudic scholar who acted as his personal assistant and accountant - writing out a detailed explanation of exactly what was happening to the Jewish people under Nazi occupation. Schindler had everything to do with the list and if you don't believe myself or those who replied to you below, have a look at interviews with those who were saved by that list and Schindler. They're on UA-cam, in black and white, and you should see these. If you don't also bother to read the book, "Schindler's Ark", you'll have done nothing but perpetuate the same type of ridiculous lies those who deny the Shoah (Holocaust), like David Irving, have done and do.
It's the only film of all WW2 movies that feels and looks like a documentary. The grittiness, the texture of life back then, the comparison to documentary material from that period of history, mannerisms, sets, everything...
And last but not least, the fact that it's in black and white. Spielberg has often said that he had to do it in black and white, because that's the only way he knew that era of history.
Love when he's doing interviews or just being himself he always uses his native Northern Irish accent. When he does any of his accents in movies he's so skilled you'd never know he was faking it
All movies have some who critique them for whatever reason...Even great movies...This movie is by far the best movie i have ever watched...The 3 hours felt not long enough...The acting performances all around were absolutely incredible...The main characters performances were on another level....This was a GREAT GREAT movie...
The film was an incredible inspiration for me to make an impact in a positive and powerful way toward the lives of other people. I think I have done that and will continue to do so.
Yes, this movie is powerful & moving!! Liam Neeson & the whole cast & crew deserved Oscar's. There's no way anyone can watch this movie & not be moved!!♥️
❤❤❤ Spielberg's first film was Duel. He then continued on and on until he got to create such a historical masterpiece. To me it was a warning to never take freedoms for granted, especially when there are those with evil and madness wanting to use emotions to steer towards such Malevolence and Tyranny.
Ithzak Stern was much more than an accountant. I believe that he deserves much more recognition, really. As well Mr. Schindler's wife played a relevant role. It does not look to me as if it was one man alone.
Very true! To quote the movie: "Some of you have come up to me and thanked me. Thank yourselves. Thank your fearless Stern, and others among you, who, worrying about you, have faced death every moment. Thank YOU."
He placed the rose on Schindler's grave at the end of the movie. He lost best actor to Tom Hanks and Ralph Fiennes lost supporting actor to Tommy Lee Jones. Terrible miscarriage of Justice.
only 2 movies have ever made me tear up. only 2. Grave of the Fireflies and Schindler's list. both great movies based on the innocent people both caught up in and targetted by the warring powers of WW2
I wish there was more out there about the technical aspects of making this film. While there are some gorgeous books (Searching for Schindler, Witness) about the film I wish there was more production footage and cast interviews about the experience of making this remarkable film. Many argue against Schindler's List as a film, sentimental, inaccurate etc but as a vehicle to get people to think about racism and history it still has an impact 23 years later.
I agree. I've often wondered why none of the DVDs or Blu-Rays contain documentaries about the making of the film itself. I wonder if Spielberg prefers it that way. I imagine he's uncomfortable with the idea of telling too much details about the making of a film that was about such a horrific period in history. I know that the shoot was grueling for him personally. Perhaps he prefers that the film speak for itself. But I agree that I would still love to know more about the making of the film someday. Maybe the timing is wrong right now.
adamzanzie 5/15/18: The DVD did have an small added segment on the making of Schindler’s list and on the interviews of SOME of the holocaust survivors. There are some here on UTUBE. Type in Schndler’s List survivors interview. I would have love to hear holocaust survivor Ida Turner’s testimony.
The DVD which I own contains only special features about the Shoah Foundation and the real Oskar Schindler. Nothing else. To find out more about how the film itself was made, look up my video essay "An Oral History of SCHINDLER'S LIST (1993)" here on UA-cam.
This is amazing, I mean.. he seems so reserved. Shy, even. Reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix a bit. I always find interesting how an actor can be so amazing on stage, and the polar opposite in real life. If life always taught me something is to have silent expectation on the "quiet" type of guy... You don't know when they are going to amaze you. =)
Schindler's close relationship to Nazis played a vital role in what he did. Without the parties, bribes and ass-kissing, he wouldn't have saved anyone.
i was in a class my senior year of high school with one of the beat teachers that ive had she played this film towards the end of the year when we had matured more in a class were it was centered on the holocaust and genocides around the world she then asked us what have we learned from this film and i did a report on what i took out of the film which was how minimal the action seems it holds value in this case good because even thoug he wished he couldve saved one or two more people the 1100 he did save were or are gratefull for what he did even though he was part of the nazi party he saw the good in people and he saw each one not as property but for what they were, people.
Will always remain one of my most fav movies of all time. Now that my children are all adults, I’ve asked them to watch it for my birthday. That’s all I want. I want them to know a glimpse into how terrible it was for the Jewish people during that war. To learn from it, as they move forward in their lives. This movie is a great example of horror, evil of man, but also courage, strength, and selflessness to do what is right even in terrible times.
Remember the girl in the red coat. She is an actual person. She wrote a book called the girl in the red coat. She said Spielberg did not want to speak to her
There are 2 different claims about who the girl in red was. One is the one you mentioned, Roma Ligocka, who survived the war and wrote a book about it after the movie was released. The second one, Gittel Chil, died in the ghetto at 4 years old. Given how the story is shown, it is more likely that the girl in red coat portrayed in the movie was Gittel Chil.
He has become a part of history , 100 years from now people will watch this movie and thay will talk about Liam , Ralph , Kingsley . They were very good in this movie. I am from india and this movie inspired me to make a movie on BENGAL FAMINE of 1940 a man made famine created by British and Churchill to feed British forces of Second World War . Because of no food 4 million Indian bengalese died and Churchill knew about it and all he had to say “ why Gandhi hasn’t died yet “ . Because it's about how a list of 1100 concentration camp prisoners doomed and heading for Auschwitz that Oskar Schindler spent most of his fortune literally buying their lives from Nazis with bribes to send them to his own personal concentration camp where he could protect them until the end of the war, which he did. It's a good movie, based on a true story.

Who else finds this man's voice soothing?
Reminds me of the seen in Ted where Ted says he wants to take Morgan Freeman's voice and turn it into a pillow.

I'd honestly say he got better with age.
He looks good in glasses. I never realized he wore glasses.
He has a deep voice, yet a sharp note.....love his voice
Hats off to director Spielberg.. Sir Liam, Sir Ben Kinsley, and Sir Ralph Fienesse. And the whole fantastic casts too. This movie was a masterpiece!

As a straight man, I have to agree. He's a good looking guy. I understand why women find him attractive ... especially in his "youth."
[His voice is so smooth and soft. o-o I love it~
i watch this movie about twice a year and i always fall in the same pattern anger, sadness and tears, and happiness and that will never change.
