I hope we, as a people, have not gotten to a point that we have to apologize for being concerned about our interest in, and concern for, the environment. I personally thank you for using your channel from time to time to voice your feelings on such things as the overuse of plastic in our society, or the fact that there are so many people who DO NOT share our concerns. Those are the people whose refuse you have so generously picked up, just as I do during my walks each day. Thank you for what you do and for caring.
I know what you mean about rubbish and the fact everything is wrapped in plastic. You don’t come across as eco warriors to me, just two people who care about the environment. If more people felt the same we wouldn’t have this problem! I know what you mean about those traditional boats. They are fantastic. I saw one for sale called Silas, it was amazing. Thanks for another great episode.
Hi Courtney. There seems to be little pockets like this around the canals. Most of it is well looked after and beautiful but there are always areas which are abused on the edges of the big cities.
When it's winter in Tasmania, it's summer in England😁 My passion is kite buggying, and I used to live near Lake Ontario in NY State. I would ride on the shore of the lake whenever I could, and each time I went I would take an hour break for lunch, and would pick up plastic and trash along the shore. One day I picked up 5 lbs worth of plastic and trash in a half hour. I used to weave baskets out of willow, is there anyone on the canals that does that? A nice sturdy market basket can save you from taking plastic bags. I love your lifestyle and outlook on life. Thanks for sharing😁
Thank you Robert. I have only seen one willow weaver on a permanent mooring once. We now have cotton reusable bags but Iowa's thinking of using unwanted pieces of my weaving to make tote bags.
Hats off to you with ref to litter . We are like you . Very frustrated that the litter people leave . Your not eco your just concerned about the worlds future as we all should be . We can t stop planes transport etc . But we can stop dropping rubbish 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
We love your videos. I've been watching a couple every morning since I discovered you the a few days ago. I'm on summer break (I teach graphic design and illustration) so it's so nice to have my morning coffee while floating down the canals with you. I was lucky enough to be in Stratford-on-Avon and Oxford June 10-11. I walked around the tow path, but was with a tour group that was moving fast, so I didn't get a chance to chat with boaters. We (my Rich and I) joke about retiring and moving to England to live on a narrowboat. You both are such an inspiration. I'm hoping we can get back to the UK and maybe do a hire? Or, at the very least, do a day-trip on a boat. You both are lovely, lovely people. Keep up the fight for the environment. We have the same fight over here in parks and lakes where people leave everything. Just cannot understand why people are so inconsiderate. Peace & Cheers.
I wouldn't be guilted into being quiet about the litter. After all, this is your channel and this is what you live and love and feel passionate about. And, it's enlightening for people to be more mindful and take notice! Even for those of us who think we are already being careful. It doesn't hurt to be reminded. I loved that little painted rock and Jess trotting backward on the roof very sweet!
We have a big concern re litter dropped anywhere so understand your frustration when seeing it discarded... I go litter picking where i live when out walking with my litter picker which extends in length, ideal for litter chucked in ditches and awkward places!! When we buy a boat we are looking forward to taking the litter picker and like you will dispose of any we see!! On another note thanks for sharing the tug boat with classic engine and boatmans cabin!! Its a big help fof us as we will be looking for a similar boat!! Stay safe. Lynette x
Just watched every single video from start to finish in 2 evenings l gave them all the thumb up. Keep up the fantastic work with litter. Looking forward to seeing more. Thank you for letting us join you.
Thank you for your videos. I believe you are great warriors for our plant. Just think what would happen if we all did our part in our own little ways!! Don’t change, don’t listen to the naysayers! Have a blast! Best wishes from Canada!
Hi from Australia, the painted stones in Oz, Happy stones, are painted by children and placed somewhere in a park or playground to be found by someone, whoever finds one they then can keep it or place it somewhere for others hopefully find them. happy stones happy kids.
Just started to watch your adventure Fran and Rich. We are at 14 now and love it. The dogs are funny, especially liked the story of teaching them which side to get onto land then went the wrong way. My wife and I roared with laughter. We also like the weaving, cooking and washing machine instructional videos. We join you when we are having our morning coffee. BTW I always wave back when you wave Fran so keep on waving. Xx
We're fully on your wavelength regarding litter. Until there's a Singapore-like zero tolerance approach, attitudes probably won't budge. It beggars belief that there are slobs who will happily lug a FULL slab of beer all the way from the store but are too lazy to carry the empties even to a nearby bin. My contribution to the rant aside, I continue to look forward to your easy-going vlogs. Always a pleasure to watch. Cheers.
Wonderful video's guys, not long seen your channel and at present just binge watching and it is so wonderful to see you both having fun and you maon all you want to on litter, as it is just bone idle to leave litter rather than put it in a bin
Thanks so much! 😊 The litter problem never changes. We have just come back from a walk along the Pennine way and miles from anywhere and found bags of dog pooh stiffed into a hole under a tree. Unbelievable!!!
I do agree about the litter O live in Oregon USA close to the mountains and I am constantly picking up bottles and cans and wrappers people bring them into the woods full but apparently it's to heavy to carry out empty it's a pet peeve of mine. Thank you so much for the great videos I really enjoy them.
Agree with you both about the rubbish. Unnecessary and lazy behaviour is killing our wild life , people just don’t care anymore and it infuriates us too!
Good on ya guys for picking up trash. Please people dont bin your plastics in the wild....it does not break down. 1 day to go and we will get the keys to our new boat 😁
100% behind you on your eco concerns - there is no excuse for poor behaviour - hope it doesn’t detract too much from the beauty of the Stratford and Warwickshire
Another smashing video, I hate plastic and people who dump it, its not hard to put in a bin or reuse the bottle, And what type of dog is the little black one he/she looks like a patterdale terrier border terrier cross to me. Cool t-shirt massive smiths and mozza fan here, the original one was meat is murder as im sure you remember.
eco warrior or not you are right in how you feel and you have a great platform to talk about it I know this is a old vlog but I am fairly new to your channel keep up the good work
Just binge watching from the beginning, catching up with ya. Keep up the good work with the trash. Everyone should be as concerned with their own garbage. The garden is looking fab.
I’m so glad I found this video. 18 months ago I took Dolly the day boat which you showed in the video, out for the day. This was the first time that I had tried to steer a narrow boat, I use the term steer loosely. Soon I was going over the aqueduct ( that you showed so beautifully) in a ping pong fashion. At the time I lived in Stratford, and used to walk the towpath to Bancroft basin almost daily. Often I would help boaters lock through the last four locks as the gates often jammed or the more elderly found it hard to wind the paddles. I think I must have been bitten by the narrowboat bug as five months ago I bought a used 57’ semi trad, and now I am a permanent Liveaboard boater and I love it. I always follow your vlogs, and as I have commented before I always enjoy them immensely so I don’t know how I missed this one. Thanks again guys, lovely video.
Floating Our Boat she is called Primrose, I am at Napton marina at present finishing the bedroom refit and then a bathroom refit. Really looking forward t
Hi Rich and Fran Enjoying your channel because of the way you are so don't worry about what others think or say, do it your way! Keep having and sharing the fun.
Love your vlogs every one I watch inspires me more to take the plunge and go for it. Hiring again for 2 weeks in July, that might be our final time before selling up and living the way we want. Keep the brilliant videos coming, pure, fun and honest. Well done 👍
I'm encouraged by your concern for the rubbish on the canal's. It takes grass roots efforts sometimes for changes to happen. I wonder if the Canal Trust can take on the problem. There aren't a lot of bins along the canals for example. The UK has such a thorough recycling program in it's cities and parks and festivals. That needs to happen on the canals too. Just a thought. Thanks for being honest.
Another lovely video from you two. Your not on your own when it comes to litter, we have the same problem here in New Zealand, in fact I think/ I know that it is a world wide problem, people are just too lazy to take their rubbish home. Already I'm looking forward to your next video. Regards Barry
I just don't get why people chuck their rubbish about like that. Imagine if everyone did that, what a pig sty we'd all be living in. That track was lovely you played when Fran was walking towards the camera at that lock, you're a proud hubby aren't you, & so you should be! x
Totally agree with you both about the amount of rubbish that is discarded along the rivers and canals and parks. I always collect it in my spare doggy bag if it is not too big. How is it that people can carry it full to the place where they dump it after consumption but cannot take it home?
Totally agree 100% about all the litter and plastic in and around our canals. People will always throw litter away, so we should be making the manufactures change to bio degradable packaging, then if it is dumped it cannot harm our environment or wildlife.
My self n our Doreen luv your videos we sit in our little boat sat in the marina full of envy because work and the fact it takes so long to get down our flight of locks and back up means we don't get out as much at the moment as we will eventually you both seem to have a very good balance between land and water dividing your time to get thing done I'm sure you will get your boat just how you want it keep em coming all the best big John and Doreen
just an idea I saw what looked like a winch at the front of a narrow boat and I thought it would be a good idea to help pull the boat if you get stuck in the mud or need to pull yourself into or out of a lock. i had a jeep with a winch pull me and a wrecker truch that had gotten stuck in mud in my auto.
Some boats do have winches but I'm not sure what they use them for. I think it may take up a lot of precious room on a standard narrowboat home. Thank you.
We live in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands and I pick up other peoples rubbish and plastic every time I take our dogs for a walk. We can't understand why people think it is ok to throw their rubbish on the ground when there are bins along every street. All we can do is keep on picking up after these people. It's not nice but if we don't do it nobody else will. We enjoy your videos and are looking forward to our narrowboat holiday which is only two weeks away. Thanks x
hey Rich, Fran was not looking the wrong way while going over that raised part of the canal Franwas just being the women she is and was multitasking, they can do that Rich, better than us guys. lol
Cleaning up after yourself and noticing when others do not do it does not make you an Eco-Warrior. It has been that way for ages that people get "offended" when someone says "Hey, you forgot your water bottle." I remember the Eco-Warriors here in the Untidied States protesting a pipeline and after they were removed they left garbage that cost millions to clean up. It is not about being an Eco-Warrior. It is about being responsible for your own actions and cleaning up after yourself. Chin up and don't let the haters ruin your day.
Hi Fran n Rich . What is that music and who sings it , as I would like to get a cd of it. ? And of course the vlogs of you both are fab.. am still going through your diary from episode 1 , and loving it.
We live in a throw it away and forget it society. I remember the adverts when Roy Castle was telling us to KEEP BRITAIN TIDY, I think we need to reeducate again, daft innit.
Oh no, you two back again, ( no i'm only joking of course ), have followed you here on the Tube since that numty Boatman Benjamin sold the boat to you, ( biggest mistake of his life i'd say, poor sod, ha ) , i'm addicted to your bloggs now!!! I was at Crick on Saturday, didn't notice you but never mind. Im a gongoozler at the moment but I hope to buy a baot one day, a year or two or three maybe, it just keeps on growing and growing on me, the more I see the more I like. Thanks fellas and i'll perhaps bump into you on the cut one day, if you're still boating then of course, who knows, thanks again...
In the sixties this was common everywhere. It was awful. Things are much better now yet I believe some folks feel they are being righteously rebellious by littering. Kinda sad.
Who on. EARTH is complaining about you being “ eco-warriors” for heavens sake? You mentioned excess packaging on your washing machine and the amount of littering on places...and someone is annoyed by that? Good grief! They need to grow up and get a life. Keep on doing what you are doing and saying what you are saying. Brilliant vlog!
Being angry about the oiks that dump "picnic remainders and wrappings" is entirely justified. After all, it is your garden that is being polluted. Maybe CRT should try to place Leave No Trace notices at access points. I can't decide if such littering is worse than people using the cut as a dump. On a lighter note, do you have tomato and strawberry plants in your roof top garden?
Hi Steve we park the car and walk/cycle every couple of days to bring it closer. This will stop once the cottage is let and we sell the car. Cheers and thanks for watching, Fran and Rich.
did you report that dodgy lock gate to the CRT.....litterbugs leave it everywhere...including on top of Scafell and other peaks....did you see all the litter left on Brighton beach after the crowds went there for the day....tonnes of it....people have become uncaring slobs....at one time there was a craze for painted pebbles which were left in places for people to pick up and move to another place......it seemed to fade away after a short time....GYR IS PRONOUNCED GIRE...A SPECIES OF FALCON...
I don't think you talk too much about eco issues in your vlogs. It's important anyway and the amount of litter around and in the canals in some places is disgraceful. People should take their litter home with them (or to the nearest bin).
It is sad that people litter and treat our land so disrespectfully. If people don’t like the messages you provide they can unfollow. Need bottle shop boat through. Enjoy
You can never be too eco-friendly :-)

I'm with you! Why spoil the beauty you wish to enjoy.. You're my tribe, you sound like me banging on 😊 👍🌏🚮♻️✅😁
There is this great you tube called Eco Boost, that shows you how to zero waste food shopping. There is nothing wrong with being an Eco warrior!
Hi Folks, You are 100% right about the trash. Who better than the narrow boaters to take the issue into their hands. Courtenay

I always loved watching the rain, especially when I was a little girl. I always thought the raindrops looked like ballerinas too.
Rich thought I was crazy when I said that!
Lovely update! It saddens me to see that people do not care for nature, they enjoy it , but do not take care of it ...
Our planet could do with a few more Eco warriors xx
Working my way through your videos and enjoying every minute.
Love them.
Thank you Leslie
Nothing wrong having pride in what your doing.....canals and eco....love it

Totally agree with you both about the amount of rubbish that is discarded along the rivers and canals and parks. I always collect it in my spare doggy bag if it is not too big. How is it that people can carry it full to the place where they dump it after consumption but cannot take it home?
High Howie, I know aaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhh! Does me 'ed in :)
Totally agree 100% about all the litter and plastic in and around our canals. People will always throw litter away, so we should be making the manufactures change to bio degradable packaging, then if it is dumped it cannot harm our environment or wildlife.
True Steve, companies should not be allowed to package in non-recyclable materials.

you boath are brill and a lovely couple
That aquaduct had about a one foot high fence along the footpath. A bit dangerous, don't you think?
I think the film angle gives the wrong impression. From memory it is more like 3 ft..... I think
It's winter in Tassie now - so that's why they are there. I see you are in the low 20s there, I'd be in a big coat :)

Irritates me beyond belief the people just throw their rubbish wherever they are, WHY? Great vlog.
Good idea Paul. People know not to dump litter but choose not to care.
Tomatoes, French beans, salad leaves and herbs :)
How do you manage getting back to the cottage after a period cruising? Do you hire a car or do you have one parked up? Love the vlogs 🍷🍷
Hi Steve we park the car and walk/cycle every couple of days to bring it closer. This will stop once the cottage is let and we sell the car.
Cheers and thanks for watching, Fran and Rich.
Cheers guys
Ping pong boating lol
P.S. Is this aqueduct longer than the Pontcyssylte?
Hi Gary, no it isn't. Ponty is 336yd whereas Edstone is just 475 ft! According to Wikipedia - so it must be true :)
I totally get your position on litter, Try to not let this spoil your enjoymnt of boating, stick to your principles and enjoy your time on the water.
did you report that dodgy lock gate to the CRT.....litterbugs leave it everywhere...including on top of Scafell and other peaks....did you see all the litter left on Brighton beach after the crowds went there for the day....tonnes of it....people have become uncaring slobs....at one time there was a craze for painted pebbles which were left in places for people to pick up and move to another place......it seemed to fade away after a short time....GYR IS PRONOUNCED GIRE...A SPECIES OF FALCON...
Rather have a G&T float through for the bar
I don't think you talk too much about eco issues in your vlogs. It's important anyway and the amount of litter around and in the canals in some places is disgraceful. People should take their litter home with them (or to the nearest bin).
Pootlers of the world, unite!
Ha ha :)
It is sad that people litter and treat our land so disrespectfully. If people don’t like the messages you provide they can unfollow. Need bottle shop boat through. Enjoy
