Ohh yeah and don't forget to make it challenging. I did notice some enemies in your level which had no purpose but to slow you down in your level though☝
Our biggest piece of advice for any level: if you're going to put in a section that requires a special weapon to get past always make sure to provide the player a fast and easy way to refill that weapon at the start of that section. There is nothing worse than running into a section of the level that's impossible without rush jet or something after hitting a point of no return checkpoint and the level is like "Did you use all your RJ energy cheesing the yoko block puzzle earlier? Guess you have to restart the level from the very beginning! -troll face- ". We keep seeing this and we will instantly down vote any level that does this.
My rule of thumb: If they were given all the chances and yet they still fucked up they deserved it. Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't fix softlocks, I'm just saying if the only way someone could possibly get trapped is through openly trying to get trapped, let 'em get trapped.
A great fix I've seen is the checkpoint rooms that you'd see in any good metroidvania level. The infinite health and weapon energy pickups are a great way to prevent softlocks. It also levels the playing field between lives, as you always go past the checkpoint room refreshed regardless of if you lost a life or not. The only issue is that they also remove any need for ammo conservation, since each checkpoint gives the player a complete reload. The pros definitely outweigh the cons here, but the con does need to be balanced around to prevent people from just spamming strong yet costly weapons.
A useful thing to know: you should put 2-4 backgrounds in a level. I personally use 3. I choose: 1 for indoors, 1 for out doors and another for a screen that goes on top of a outdoor one.
A far as People can do Text-Editing that some of us can't do I don't play Text-Editing Levels either I don't play random levels from people unless their creative, What a better stage to play some like Vent Crystal would try it, either normal or hard to do. I see text editing as the best way to make a good level, but if people can't even make good levels with the normal tools I just can't even mention it lol. About the checkpoints, I totally agree! There are a lot of levels with unfair or cheap death places, and then make you try again from the start. Levels like that just make me want to quit playing it, honestly.

This is pretty impressive. I know it's old but this video is helpful. Especially since I've been struggling to think of a couple robot master stages of my own.
Hi gfo! Im remaking cyber shadow stage 1! My stage will likely be ready by next week! Cyber shadow is a traditional 11 stage ps4 game, you get more upgrades on further levels, you can also go back to earlier levels, for more stuff And its music is ABSOLUTE BAGER ALL THE WAY AROUND
@@Getagirlfriend-y4e A troll doesn't always have to kill the player (especially if you're going to make a fair level). A good example of a harmless surprise element is in Wily Stage 2 in Mega Man 4. There's a part where there's two ladders to go up, and if you pick the wrong ladder, there's a buzz saw enemy and no way up. Though, you can just climb back down; you'll only get hit by the buzz saw enemy if you're not paying attention.
@@Getagirlfriend-y4e Honestly? 4 might be my favorite. Haha! I think SparkMan is just that his actions are too slow and the damage he causes to players is generally not high.
