It’s been a difficult gardening year world wide from the sounds of it. Our new climates do not agree with our gardens, too much rain, too much heat, too much wind. But it’s hard to admit defeat. Making changes is definitely the way to proceed. Your white garden looks beautiful! Congratulations Sue and continued success. How nice of your aunt and uncle to have gifted you gift certificates, and how sweet of you to have mentioned them. Wishing you sunny skies🇨🇦
🥰🌸🇨🇦Gorgeous !I am trying to create a moon garden . You have provided me with some great ideas. I have challenges with a shaded garden. Our area has been hit badly over the last couple of years with the boxwood caterpillars. I’m replacing the few boxwood bushes I have with other plants.
Couldn’t agree more, when you watch the news on tv there are always so many places in the world that are experiencing extreme weather events. Gardening is never boring, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Hope you are having a wonderful summer, thanks for watching 😊
Hello, we do have boxwood caterpillars here in the UK too but it’s not something I’ve ever had to contend with thankfully. White gardens are very popular, I hadn’t realised this until I posted on UA-cam. They are by far my most watched videos. Good luck with your moon garden and thanks for watching 🙏😊
Your white garden always manages to be strikingly beautiful, with new white additions every year. I agree the garden work is never end, this year, a storm broke a huge evergreen tree in my garden, and the cleanup of the roots still isn't complete.
It’s certainly been a strange year for weather worldwide, so many extreme weather events. Many gardening hours and a lot of effort required to clean up fallen trees, hopefully all goes well for you with the clearing of the debris and thank you for the lovely comment very much appreciated 🙏😊
I love your videos so much! The Annabelle hydrangeas are the perfect addition to the White garden. They look spectacular. I thought that white blooming perennial sweet pea was stunning. You summed up my garden life with the comment, "what you love isn't necessarily what's going to work". Isn't that the truth? I am on the look out for new plants to add to my white border. You have giving me a fresh dose of inspiration. Thank you.
This far into the gardening season I do find it difficult to keep the momentum going and like you I watch other UA-camrs for ideas all the time. Also watching other people’s videos sparks my enthusiasm again if I’m feeling garden burnout and a bit jaded from too many jobs, which happens to me every year about now. After watching your last video I’m now thinking about one key plant for every month, the Annabelle is definitely for August, just got to work out the rest of the year now, so Thank You 🙏
@@thequarrygardener5578 I know how you feel. Right now my garden needs a firm thinning out in most areas with some thinking ahead for next season. I'd rather drink coffee on the patio...ha ha. I've had a heck of a time with deer, ground hogs, and bunnies this season so things are looking rough here. Cheers! I always enjoy your videos.
Thank you for the lovely comment, a romantic style was always the look I was after but I’d never thought of it as being elegant so I’m delighted you think that 🙏😊
Sue, the white garden is looking just beautiful, even before you made those changes. I loved seeing the reminder video from earlier in the year, it is always gratifying to see the changes that hard work and the seasons bring. All of your umbellifers are gorgeous - I need to add more to my garden! Can you tell me what the white flowering spires are at 4:20? I don't recognize them but they are lovely. As always, thank you for sharing your garden - a bright spot in my day.
Thank you so much Lynn. Umbellifers are one of my favourite perennials, I think my love affair with them started when I went to Sissinghurst. The spires of white flowers are Veronicastrum Alba, there are other varieties available with purple or pink flowers. They are very tall 4-5ft but when planted en ma
The Annabelle hydrangeas look great Sue. They've liked all the wet weather this year. I think you're right about roses needing a deep root run. I've had lots of black spot too this year. The daisies make a perfect addition to that border.
Hydrangeas are definitely the way to go in my garden especially as our weather (here in the north ) appears to be changing to a very wet climate. Strangely I have a climbing rose in the middle of the border directly behind the one I dug out & it never fails to perform and it doesn’t have any disease and the leaves are all perfect. Thanks for watching 🙏😊
Stunning. The silver foliage touches add such punch! You are brave to add the pretty “Goosestrife” as I like to call it to your garden. I’m trying another white plant called “Obedient Plant.” Probably won’t behave and run heater-skelter everywhere. 😅 Thank you for another well edited video. Loved the birdsong and peaceful feeling as you were trying to remove those box 😂
Thank you so much! The Lysimachia Candela has enjoyed my wet climate a wee bit too much in the last two years, I’m going to have to dig big clumps out in the autumn. Similarly the primulas, they have spread everywhere this year. I nearly planted obedient (I think we call it Physostegia), it’s on my list as there is a lovely white one. You’ll have to let me know how it performs. The box, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t upset about them, it feels like I wasted a lot of money. However 5 of the 12 did survive, although it will take quite a few years for them to recover. Thanks for watching 🙏😊
Maybe a bottomless pot might be a solution for your roses. I just love your garden tours. I myself have some tweaking to do in my garden. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks for the tip! It’s strange as I have a climbing rose in the centre of the border behind the one I dug out and it’s thriving. I remove a lot of sandstone every time I plant so I must have created a bigger and deeper planting pocket for that rose. Thanks for watching and the lovely comments very much appreciated 🙏😊
Okay, I am subscribed ("all") to your channel and have been since the beginning, but some of your videos are not showing up in my feed of notifications? (I double-checked my notifications feed, and no, they're not showing up... you might talk to youtube about that, because other subscribers might be missing them too? And your channel deserves to be seen and grow!) So now I'm seeing this video after seeing your one from the day before, which in it, you mentioned this one that also didn't show up in my notifications feed... All of that being said (ha!), GORGEOUS White Garden!! Just masterful... so many variations of white flowers and plants and all the greens, all the different textures and layers... so beautiful! Thank you so much!!
I LOVE this white garden so much! Thank you for taking the time to show the process and progress over time. You have inspired me to plant a white garden and by the way, I think the music you selected for the opening tour was perfect-what is the name of the piece?
Thank you for watching and the lovely feedback very much appreciated. The music is by a young artist called Ben Winwood and the piece is called Ireland, he writes very haunting and atmospheric music which I love very much. Good Luck with your White garden, you won’t regret it 😊
Hi there. What a beautiful white garden. It is a credit to all your hard work and It was lovely seeing it transition. I love the Annabelle Hydrangea and was gifted one last year. However, it certainly doesn't look like yours and I'm wondering if I have put it in the wrong place or pruned it back a little too much last Autumn 😕. My white garden is looking very tired at the moment and I'm looking forward to getting in amongst the plants next week and giving it a good tidy out. I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to your future videos. It's great fun isn't it? Hope you're having a lovely weekend. Diane x
Hello….Don’t worry too much about your Annabelle hydrangea. The bigger one of my two at the beginning of the garden path is a four year old shrub the slighter smaller one opposite is three years old. The first couple of years I had considerably less flowers. Hard pruning won’t impact flowering, I cut about two thirds of the shrubs right down to the ground in early spring (spring is better than autumn I find) and they reliably come back. As long as you keep them well watered once they are in growth you’ll have more flowers next year. I never thought in a million years I would publish a video on UA-cam, I didn’t find it easy talking to a camera in the beginning, definitely outside of my comfort zone, but it’s getting easier and dare I say I’m starting to enjoy it. Thanks for subscribing, it’s great to have a fellow UA-camr in the north 😊
It's hard having to remove beautiful (and expensive!) box balls. Box tree moth has run amok in my garden for several years and despite fighting it with the various tools at the gardner's disposaI I have finally given up and this Summer removed my once beautiful box parterre and all the box balls, and spirals. 😐
I was devastated to have to remove the box balls as they were key to how I designed the garden and then there is the wasted money. I do have several still in the garden elsewhere though in a more free draining spot and they are flourishing, I say that quietly. I’ve never had the tree moth here (so far) it’s just the ground in the white garden is very wet and drains badly, not suited to buxus or yew. You must be heartbroken to have to remove a whole box parterre, it was bad enough for me with the box balls. Good luck with your garden moving forward and thanks for watching 🙏😊
Can I ask what aspect your viburnum mariesii are facing? I need to plant mine but the only area sheltered from strong wind is north facing - would it still flower well in north shade? Very inspiring videos 🙏
You are in luck as both of the viburnums I have that are planted either side of the wooden arbor face north and secondly are located under a huge sycamore tree. The flowering lasts for several weeks and I believe it’s because they are in shade for the majority of the day. The only thing to mention is that mine never dry out, if I do encounter a dry spell in May (rare for my location) I water them which ensures the flowers last that little bit longer. Hope this helps 😊
I worked at a garden center. We accidentally labeled the cleome wrong. A moon garden enthusiast got quite upset with the pink cleome. I felt bad, i don't remember how it was resolved but luckily we were well established and this wasn't a normal thing. How would you have felt with an accidental pink splash?
I don’t take anything that seriously to be honest, this year I’ve grown several dahlias which were supposed to be white but turned out orange but they look great in a pot so all good. Also all the cosmos purity seeds ended up pink not white, frustrating yes because of all the effort to grow them but my sister is delighted as they are now all growing beautifully in her garden. Thanks for watching 🙏😊
Hello, I don’t have ferns in the white garden but I do have a plant that looks very similar, fern like leaves although it grows huge by the summer. It’s called ‘Selinum wallichianum’ bit of a mouthful but it’s commonly known as a Milk Parsley. It has white flowers in the summer and is a wonderful architectural plant. Hope this helps 😊
I must have been feeling a touch of melancholy when I picked it but I’m laughing because it’s the second time I’ve used it. You might not like my music (I do use upbeat too] but more importantly to me you liked the garden so that I appreciate very much. Thanks for watching 🙏😊
