  • Copenhagen just keeps finding fun ways to make it easier to bike - and more convienent. I was able to take a nice tour with Mikael Collville-Andersen and see some new innovations that have happened since I was in Copenhagen 4 years ago.
First off, if you've seen my Streetfilm from the Velo City Conference 2010 (yes, feel free to watch again here) the busiest bicycle street in the world has changed! Now the Knippelsbro Bridge boasts 40,700 riders per day! And speaking of bridges, Copenhagen is building SIX new bike/ped only bridges to help its citizens get around easier.
Last month another cool bridge debuted - the Cykelslangen "Cycle Snake" or "The Snake". You'll see lots of footage as we travelled back and forth over it. It is truly a work of beauty and the riding is incredibly smooth. Even going uphill seems pretty easy!
You'll see lots of other things that will make you happy (or angry your city isn't doing it!) Including waste baskets angled for cyclists, LED lights that indicate whether riders have to speed up to catch the green wave, and a cool treatment for cobblestone streets that helps make biking easier.

In York we look to cities in the EU as an aspiration point for us - we continue to push for improvements in our infrastructure but it's hard because drivers don't want to give up their cars even for a day or two, so we have to fight for improvements.

This video makes me want to go back to Copenhagen. I went off it for a while, don't know why to be honest but this has re stored my faith that it is a pretty cool place to live. I've always thought of it as Amsterdam meets Oslo. Those being two other cities I know and love

Thanks for sharing. I love the fact, that Mikael Colville although Canadian has a big part of his heart in Copenhagen. He's a brilliant ambassador to Denmark and makes a major contribution to making Copenhagen famous internationally. A bit like our internationally renowned crownprincess Mary

I wish Phoenix, Az would make it easier to bike, but the politicians are so afraid of the drivers you scream *NO* every time the city wants to add bike lanes. :(

It's not really that good. Compare it to The Netherlands and it's actually quite horrible. Compared to the rest of the world however, sure, it's alright.
But FFS, Denmark, apply good infrastructure nationwide!

Busiest bycicle bridge of the world ..... you must be joking!! I know for a fact a couple of bridges in Amsterdam which have more bycicle movements ...... Every single city or village in the Netherlands has a far better cycling infrastructure and is hugely better equipped for bycycles than Copenhagen so it baffles me that Copenhagen is being mentioned as the best cycling city in the world?? Or has that survey been done by the Copenhagen City Council?? Pls. Stop with this false marketing inaccuracies

You obviously don't have a clue about what you are talking about. Every single city or village in Netherlands having better cycling infrastructure?
Maybe, your national feelings were just hurt. A bit of a pathetic discussion.
Just get on your bike and ride. That's all that matters.

Dude copenhagen is stuck in the 1980s compared to all the towns in the netherlands lol it has nothing to do with nationalism. Your fake "copenhagenize" list paid for by copenhagen city council is pure sattire and claiming to be nr1 is an absolute joke.

@@maozedong44 Why the anger? We should celebrate that Copenhagen is focussing on bicycle traffic too. More cities should follow. More bikes and less cars means healthier and safer for people, environmentally friendlier, and overall makes cities much more pleasant to live in.
